25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

“I agree to a certain extent, then there’s a certain extent that I don’t agree with. It is what it is, but obviously, we have to have a lens. That’s one of the things I always talk about. Players have to have lenses; coaches do too. We’ve got to do a better job getting our players prepared to win football games. I think we had some adversity last year. I thought we handled it the best way we could, but there’s some things that we need to get better at. And then there’s a reason why some of the guys that were on my staff aren’t coming with me to Ottawa.”

Dinwiddie only brought two coaches with him from Toronto to Ottawa — receivers coach Pete Costanza and quarterbacks coach Drew Tate — choosing to fill the rest of his staff with new faces or incumbents.

Toronto just sounds like an absolute dumpster fire off the field. Even Pinball wants out or at least wants to reduce his involvement.

Things went off the rails for sure. When ownership doesn't care this is what happens.

Pinball is such a company man. He straight out lies to cover MLSE & his ass.

Trying to have it done before free agency this year.

I don’t want to know what free agents will get if the cap goes up more

These guys were so underpaid for years & at some positions still are. I have no problem if the cap goes up significantly.

no doubt. it’s not that which worries me. it worries me that cfl teams can’t spend responsibly or do financial planning worth a damn. I’m all for these guys getting great pay.

It's GMs like Ed hervey that are irresponsible. You know he'll be throwing money around like it's no tomorrow & have a last place team again.

Yeah, Pinball used to be a very popular player across canada. Now, he can't even say that Murphy approached the Riders without his knowledge. Which means that could be a lie as well & he knew. As in gave Murphy permission to do so. Just that Mace ratted the Argos out. Pinball's integrity is shot.

Surely the gms are aware of what the cap could be. And where it might be. They must have an idea of sorts like cap ain’t going up 1 million bucks. Maybe it goes up 100k tho. But prob nothing insane.

His responses were absurd and made little sense.

AND you could add weasel.....Used to have a lot of respect for the guy ....now not so much....His lack of comments on the Murphy situation were deafening

This isn't new. been talked about before. Just shows how ridiculous our rookie salary cap is. At the same time, there are  90 spots available on an NFL roster. The majority of these coddled kids won't be playing in the NFL.

Hervey is the most overpaid & overrated GM in the CFL now that Chris Jones is gone.

The bigger problem are all the guys stunting their development because they are going to 7 schools in 6 years.

The CFL is always going to only be attractive to people who want to keep playing.  It's not life changing money for any American player or QB.  Most guys who play QB in NCAA have their families spending as much money on QB and 7 on 7 camps when they are in high school as they will make on a CFL rookie deal.

some those guys making NILS money will hardly get a shot in NFL as well...so yes if they wanna play...then theu have really only one legit place

I think the league should have a rookie entry level max for that first contract...Have the current first yr salary as the floor....and max it at 150k per yr for draft picks and guys signed out of the U.S be it a college grad...or a guy with some NFL time bouncing around, as you would find a better stream of guys become available

I think the idea of an extra spot for a developmental Canadian QB is a solid idea. I also like the idea of having a higher 1st year salary for some new players like QBs.

Let's shoot big and make it so (or at least try) and spend less time worrying about the rules of the game.
