25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

I don't see Maier surplanting Brown. Maier has been inconsistent at best as a starter.

The issue is whether Dru can stay healthy for enough games to be a legitimate option l.

Meh almost every one of those teams would be screwed if their starting quarterback went down. Don’t see how B.C should be ranked number 4 other than Rourke.

We're deservedly ranked last, that's all I care about.

rest of that list is trash but i can’t argue with out spot

Tre Ford is young enough to take a flyer on... is he a free agent or did he retire?

I'd take Dru over Collaros at that price, and it wouldn't be a hard decision.

You'd take this guy if the price is right in your mind.

Not moving on from collaros while we had brown was an error by this team.

Then, instead of Collaros getting pulped because of a crappy OC and O-line, we would have had Brown getting pulped, but at a cheaper price. Not sure that would have accomplished much.

The way Brown was, he'd have never played an yway. He had large gaps between being performing on the field & IR. I just got the impression Brown may have been able to come back come back but didn't seem to want to. I question his toughness & leadership as he certainly doesn't seem to be another Matt Dunigan or Jeff Garcia.

So, if T Burg wants to pay a guy who's injured more than he plays then how are we saving money? We'd have been paying Brown to sit & do nothing on the 6 game Injury List multiple times.

I think Dinwiddie felt the same & went out & got a qb he feels he can work with in Maier to push Brown. Look what Dinwiddie did with Arbuckle in Toronto last year. Two years ago, it looked like his career was over. If he does the same thing with Maier then Brown is gone. Ottwa is (probably) spending more money on their two qbs than we spend on the 3 or 4 we have now as both in Ottawa are veterans. Other than Zach, our qb room have backups with limited experience or none at all.

This coming season my man ZC is going to stay healthy, light it up, lead us to Grey Cup victory and retire on top.

At the very least it feels good writing this. Off season hope.

I'd believe it ..

ZC with a new OC....good oline again and some legit targets is gonna do one of 2 things...Either have a late in career renaissance like Calvillo had and actually be a legit #1 and possibly another 2..3 really good yrs in him if the situation allows for it....Or he is gonna confirm the last 2 yrs of this spiral into crapsville is real and he is done. And we should do whatever we have to in the season if this is the case to address it and not wait for the off-season and really be hooped...if it means trading assets...Picks...or a legitimate performer so be it, but get it accomplished

If he shows a rebirth and his physical skills look like they are not degraded from previous season, then he could be a resigning on a 1 yr deal for 2027 at a reasonable price as we are hopefully grooming the 2028 guy....Not at the 600k price tag he has been getting...not even 500k...but more in the scope of what BLM has taken and if he doesnt like that deal....See ya later

Kelly+Arbuckle is a better duo than Mitchell/Ford

You think that Collaros would have lasted better in Ottawa than Brown did or that Brown would have been injured as often running our offence behind our O-line? That's why arguments based on conjecture are so stupid. There is no way to prove them either way. Just flapping your 'internet' lips again.

If the reclamation project in Trevor H. could do it, so can Collaros. Even BLM looked cooked 3 years ago.

Collaros looked cooked 10 years ago because of his injuries - the fact he's healthy & still playing at all is remarkable.

It's true, but there are other factors that make it less likely for us. Like, none of them were turning 38 years old when they had the comeback. Doing that in your early 30s is very different than doing it at 40. None of them had the massive list of serious injury concerns Zach has faced his whole career. Zach already had one miraculous career resurgence, and it wasn't one big injury that held Zach out or back last year. He's been held back by a big old stack of medical issues for the last 2 years.

We will be giving Zach basically the best case scenario this year. More OL talent than you could shake a stick at. Seriously, our send best OL unit this year is better than the best of the last 2.5 years or so. Rbs and depth, WRs with top-end talent, and an OC that is basically hand-picked for him.

I hate that we are tied to Zach; I hate even more that we have no contingency plan. I hate most that we had no real way of doing any better at QB this offseason. But it is what it is. Have to hope for betting QBing room next year at this point.

Collaros may be old and bad, but he makes up for it by being expensive.

Yeah he at the upper range where he can have a bit of a resurgence, and like you said he may already have had it on 19'-22'....and even then a lot of his success in the later part of that was more the talent around him...that talent eroded last 2 yrs and well....we saw what we got

My concern is his slower processing ability it seems now....and is making for poor decisions, as well as he is at times looking like he in self preservation made....and plays scared at times due to it

We are yeah tied to him for this yr....My fear is he has a season that seems like he is still 2019-2021 ZC and we go and re-up him for dumb money again but that success was just smoke and mirror type success and we further stunt any transition, or miss out on a QB who could be the starter here for yrs...and we all know Osh will push for that as that's how he rolls....as he has claimed right up to the end of last yr that ZC is elite and best in league, so why would he change that stance...At least Walter's forced his hand with Thomas and Kolo and took that right outta the equation....not sure tho about him taking the ZC issue out of the equation tho

I want us to win the cup next yr....but that could also be the worst thig to happen here for the QB position

I am hoping Zach rebounds and we win the cup in 2026 because

Yep. The random chuckitius he comes down with is pretty bad. Doesn't seem to matter how many DBs are in the area; if he has it in his mind to chuck on that snap, it's going deep. OFC we want to win the cup every year. But the realistic hope for me is that we have a pre-Zach 2019 type team building again. Where the D/teams went out expecting to have to win the game every week. And won many, many games. Rebuild the team into one where every unit feels like the QB of the team with the need to propel us to a win. That way if we find a qb worth growing with, or get another older guy we have the supporting pieces to dominate again.
