25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

I forgot about that... the pain of losing him has forced me to take that memory away :)

I think he was given his play time based on injuries to the other qbs.

dont think Wilson tho really been giving a chance....he showe something in yr one...has poise and presence...best arm....but last yr with Dinglenuts as OC was a waste and everyone actually regressed...Make or break for Wilson tho this yr...and I actually think Perkins is gonna look impressive....so if Wilson doesnt shoot the lights out and look legit, he likely gone

Elgersma is a project and really shouldn't be counted on anything but that this yr...or even next if he signs....He is a CIS trained QB who had some success in college against 85 percent of players who were glorified high school stars finishing off their football lives, and a big part of his success.....and hasnt played meaningful football going on 2 yrs now....No CIS QB is gonna be a factor early on in career...if ever. People like to push it...TSN especially and when has it happened....Just look to recent with FORD....Uber athletic, all the things you want in a pro.....Except abilty to make it work in the pros...looked good against Canadian College kids.....but in pro's a different ball game

Elgersma sure has a better arm....even still tho....doesnt compute to immediate success and to expect it right outta the gate....is just asking to flop

Backups only get a few reps in practice. It's hard for them to progress but when they get their chance they have to show they can play. Davis Alexander proved that. I wouldn't write Terry Wilson off just yet. I like Dinglenuts. That's a good name for Hogan. Just think, the Head Dinglenut made him OC & then when Rome was burning all around him, still refused to make a change because his ego was too big to ever admit he ****** up.

I keep thinking about a few years back when the Riders brought in guys like Patterson/Dolegala/Fine and those guys were able to hop right in and play. They weren't running a dink and dunk 5 yard check down game either, they ran the complete O with varying levels of success and failure.

It feels like the Blue haven't done anything like this in years. It's always a back up QB comes in and it's just flat.

Patterson/Dolegala/Fine is not a very high standard of coming right in and playing. All 3 of them lost a lot more than they won, and had pretty pedestrian numbers. Sure they went in, but your recollection of no dink and dunk is not accurate. They were almost exclusively a dink and dunk offence almost to the point of it being comedic. The only time they would open up the offence is when they were down multiple scores and with a very low success rate.

Disagree majorly. They didn't come in looking completely lost and throwing 3 yard check downs. I didn't say they "lit it up" but they at least showed that they can enter into the game and at least show a general threat of scoring.

Over the past two weeks, Dolegala, 26, has led the Roughriders (6-5) to wins over the West's top two teams, the B.C. Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He threw for 326 yards in an overtime win over the visiting Blue Bombers in the Labour Day Classic after throwing for 239 yards and three touchdowns (and no interceptions) in a win over B.C.

So a 2 game segment is your basis of 3 QBs? You can disagree if you want but the proof is in the pudding overall. Check out all 3 guys average completion yardage and it is dink and dunk numbers. Did they have moments where they didn't look overwhelmed? Sure. We got much better outings from Dru Brown than any of those 3 ever had.

I'm fine with that.... He was inconsistent at best.

I would have paid any amount for Allen I think. He's an unreal player, Canadian or not.

I like Allen. I think that is a pretty good move. Maier is a drastic overpay, but I get it. They have an injury concern with Brown, and we don't have good back-ups available. They overpaid for what they thought was the best option at the most important position.

I wonder how much Greg Bell is making; that seems questionable to me. I'd rather put that money into OL and not overpay at RB.

I like the talent he brings, but in 2 seasons, he has 2 100-yard plus games and 2 20 carry or more games. He hasn't hit 200 or 190 carries in a year either. He's a grinder and not a home run hitter, who hasn't shown he can sustain the grind. Similar to Oullette, but a better pass catcher for sure.

If I am going to break the paradigm of pay for RBs, it's gotta either be a Canadian or a game-changing home run hitter.

Overall it's probably not too bad for their QB room - they got Dru to take a paycut so they had room to be aggressive in FA. I also don't think Dinwiddie is 100% sold on Dru yet so he wanted to make sure they had the best possible back-up they could get. He's been saying good things about Dru & has declared him their starter but also said they would be exploring all options.

I don't think Dinwiddie is either. I could see a trade where Brown goes to the Argos for Kelly. And Nick Arbuckle is on the Argo roster as well. being a backup again can't be sitting too well with him, either. Could there still be a 3 way trade with the Bombers, Argos & RedBlacks as 3DN suggested earlier this off season?

Call me a hater but I think Maier is extremely mediocre. He Didn’t even look good in Saskatchewan with a stacked offense.

Can't even call him Mayor Mc Cheese. Right now, he's more like Council Member, Mc Cheese.

Crum to Maier is a high-cost downgrade.

All I can speculate here is he’s on an intense offseason enhancement regime where his goal is to improve his mobility, accuracy, football IQ and other needed qb intangibles by 30% that Dinwiddie bought into.

Pisses me off that teams continue to pay Canadian OL this much money. Some fatty comes out of Canadian college unable to block at the CFL level & they still get paid or have long careers when they suck year in & year out. Guys like david Foucault come to mind. Koala as well. Finally they begin to figure things out at age 28. That's why I believe their salaries would go way down if there was no ratio. It's artificially inflated because of it.

Just watch, it's balancing itself out as we speak. 3 and even 4 Americans on the OL are no longer uncommon

I think we'll see more Canadian talents like Brady O, and more quality Americans on the OL

Does anyone even start a Canadian OT anymore? I believe the last one for the Big Blue was Gauthier, a good 15 years ago.

malik carney highest paid none qb imp in the cap era. that’s a yikes
