MOCK 2.0: WHO WILL BE SELECTED?

From Regional Combine to first rounder? The path is rare, but Pelehos showed he’s got the right makeup as the Bombers test their eye for lineman talent in an effort to replace former first round pick Drew Desjarlais, who signed with the New England Patriots this off-season.

this was who Hodge had us taking in his first mock, and I'm now inclined to believe that's who we'll take. Ferguson had us getting Zerr at 9 (in his first mock), but I just can't imagine a world where the Riders let a USask OL fall to us. I'm betting on Pelehos and think he'll be a good one, based on everything I've read.

Not all of them.

Elon Musk's mother:  Maye Haldeman was born on April 19, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada,

although I think she escaped early.

Drew Desjarlais...... hope he makes the Pats..... what An experience for him.

in Alberta, if you want something built, you need to find a way to do it almost entirely on private funds. The screaming and yelling that goes on if even one red penny of tax dollars gets spent on ANYTHING is almost unbelievable. There's no "Hey, we're allowed to have nice things" around here.

Unless you live in Edmonton. Everywhere else in Alberta, sports wise, no one's allowed to have any fun. Edmonton had CWS for the Commonwealth Games in 1978, three indoor practice facilities (fieldhouses), baseball stadium & now a new arena for the Oilers. Calgary is & continues to be a joke when it comes to facilities for pro sports & just in a sad state of affairs for amateur & community sports.

Hey those rich private citizens or companies didn't get rich by writing a lot of cheques....

That's really what it comes down to. bunch of cheap asses want the public to pay for everything. Grifters the lot of them. The group that owns the Flames are terrible for it. Killed the arena deal because the city had the audacity to expect them to pay for cost increases.

I think the arena may get built on Tsuu Tina land in the westwern part of the city. Two major freeways have access to the place. Hundreds of thousands of cars drive by everyday. And nothing but room unlike a downtown arena.

TD atlantic sells out in short order. Soo fast it makes me suspect re sellers and some companies agreed to do so before hand. My expectations for this are low. Bills game in toronto during a leafs game low.

what's the capacity for that? I assume like 10k....maybe less??

Nothing but room... with likely one way in and out.... and then do you add in all the people drinking beer at the game and hopping into their cars to drive home? No build an arena downtownish with access to public transit.

Yeah, selling out that venue doesn't impress me that much....... but whatever the CFL can do to spin it into news is a good thing, I suppose.

well better to sell out quick than not sell out...

One way in & out entering & exiting onto two major multi laned freeways. One going nort/south. The other east/west.

If the Tsuu Tina want to build an arena then I don't think that Edwards will want to deal with the City of Calgary. Neither side trusts each other. There'll always be animosity between the two. You can't get a good deal for both sides with so much hard feelings in play. The Tsuu Tina already have their casino there with nothing else around it. Bringing in the Flames & potentially the Stamps would spur development of an Entertainment District with bars, restaurants & hotels to go with the casino which is what I think the Band wants.

Does the C-Train run out there......I can't remember.....?? That would be a bit part of it...

No. No C Train. If a deal is made to build on the Tsuu Tina reserve, I don't think that would break it. I mean, as you know we're a "world class city". We don't have a C Train line to Mount Royal University or our airport. Podunk.

When was the last time you tried to get in and out of an event at the casino? Big freeways yes, but if you still have one way in and out you get a bottleneck there. Plus you get more vats since transit is nonexistent so everyone will just drive.

Look I get that the reserve might make a good offer than the cheap asses running the flames will take, but it would be a mistake. They need to reach into their fat wallets and stop expecting the city to build them an arena on the tax payer dime.

Entrance & exit would require an upgrade but that's all on Tsuu Tina land & they would have the $$$ to do it. Again, don't see that as a deal breaker.

The deal breaker may lie in the Indian Act. I assume this in TLE land? If so, the Flames organization may be very uncomfortable with  provisions contained in the act. Just speaking from experience here, as someone who was on a board trying to get a mining giant to sign a deal with my reserve to open a mine on our territory. At the end of the day they bolted because they were unhappy with a lot of archaic provisions that would not allow them to secure their investment.

So triple the attendance of an Argo game?

The Tsuu Tina are extremely wealthy. They are venturing into different businesses. There is a Costco on their land as well as a casino. They reaped in hundreds of millions of dollars from the Province & City of Calgary when they put the SW portion of the Ring Road thru their reserve. I'm not sure but I also believe they collect a toll (electronically) from the province for every car that drives thru their land on the Ring Road but I may be wrong. So, this band has a great deal of economic clout.

Just an additional thought. There's been no word on whether this would happen. Nothing but crickets since the arena deal fell through so it's all speculation. The Flames may be negotiating in secret with the City of Calgary right now & we don't know it. No one here in Calgary knows how this will end.

You are suggesting that the reserve would own the stadium and arena and lease it to the Flames and Stamps? Rich or not, that's a heckuva gamble. I could see the Stamps easily taking such a deal, but I'm not so sure the Flames would without a piece of the arena pie and a big say in how it operates....and that's where things get pretty sticky with INAC.

A 200 million dollar stadium hosting the Stamps literally has almost zero chance of paying for itself on 9 dates a year, whether it is through leasing, concert venue, and economic spin off in the immediate area. It would make no sense for Tsuu TIna to do a stadium unless a pile of money was coming from the feds, prov, and city....and we all know how that is working out. An arena has a chance to pay itself off, but not many NHL owners are interested in playing in a building they have no stake in.

In the deal with the City that fell through, the Flames wouldn't own the arena. The City would have. But they would have controlled concessions & revenue from the games & concerts.

So how exactly would Tsuu Tina ever recover it's money? It wouldn't. No wonder the City of Calgary bailed....what a horrible deal.

They have just ruined the CFL game. Just putting the first overly exaggerated opinion out there. Seriously though, I like the hashmark rule and really the other rules are just changing them for the sake of changing them, they won't do much.

Different group & different negotiations. There was bad blood going back a number of years between Edwards & Nenshi regarding the arena. Maybe the the Tsuu Tina will look at an arena deal to spur development as it will become a destination point for an Entertainment District with a minimum of 40 nights a year in use, I dunno. I mean there's absolutely nothing there. It;s forest, rivers, gizzly bears, cougars & foothills to the Rocky Mountains basically. There has to be a starting point for a development.
