I think its somewhere more in the middle that's needed.

I've said before what I'm hoping to see when guys like Zegras doing those skilled lacrosse moves on ice and defensemen getting better at reading it to nicely catch the player cleanly under the chin with his shoulder sending him barreling backwards right before he tries to deposit the puck into the net. Then hearing Howie Meeker say, 'Now that's hockey'.

Need that element of fear on the ice when a player tries these trick plays so he isn't 100% percent sure someone will not knock his block off.

Just makes the league unwatchable, IMO.

We just need a few more Buffs in the league. He actually rarely fought but highly entertaining and gave players something to think about while he was on the ice or chirping from the bench.

I don't wanna curb creative play, necessarily, but you absolutely have to make a guy think twice about embarrassing you like that. Someone to keep them honest. If you're gonna do something like that stupid lacrosse goal, you deserve to at least take a good hit.

Some say Gretzky, some now say Ovechkin, another generation would have pointed to Hull or Richard, but to me (and to Gretzky himself) the greatest pure goal scorer in NHL history was and still is Mike Bossy. His .762 goals per game average is the all-time best (that’s an average of 62 goals a year in an 82 game season).

Bossy has been fighting lung cancer for a few years now, and has terminated his treatment and has gone home to live his likely very few remaining days in palliative care. Here is a piece he wrote about talking to his 14 year old self as a 60 year old. Send a prayer his way.

Trottier and Bossy. What a tandem.

What a fantastic piece Bossy wrote here. As Howie Meeker would have said, "Now that's hockey'.

I hope he's surrounded by people who love and adore him, I'm sure he is.

Grit and gritty. Good to see.

The #NHLJets have agreed to terms with forward Wyatt Bongiovanni to a two-year, entry-level contract.

If only Ducky hadn't passed (however I am pro Carlyle)

Lane Lambert is an interesting name on that list.  He was in the Nashville organization as the head coach in Milwaukee, then became an assistant to Trotz and seems to have followed him to both Washington and the Island.

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2931  If Trotz is not made available to the market, Lambert might be the next best thing.

As for the rest of the list, I think I'd rather go with some up and comer than a re-tread.  How many of us knew much about Jon Cooper before he was hired by the Lightning?
