Noeller Posted Friday at 04:34 PM Report Posted Friday at 04:34 PM It's the concussions I worry about the most.... But since he went full White Wolf in Wakanda, it seems like things are better... Here's hoping! Might be my all time favourite player...

Interesting. I’m surprised by that. Older guy, hasn’t played in a couple years, has some health concerns…. Maybe the agent trying to fan some flames? Regardless, hopefully he’s in good shape and has some juice left. Could be a cool story.

Makes sense for him to sign here…. I doubt there was a lot of competition for his services. I could see CHI taking a flyer with near-zero talent left on that team. Would not offer more then min wage considering they already paid him 120m.

It was Winnipeg or Colorado they say. Winnipeg all along. Dude isn’t coming back for fun, he wants to win. He was never signing with a bottom feeder and that’s what Chicago will be. I’d bet it was like this… Toews agent asks JT who he wants to play for, JT says Winnipeg but if they aren’t interested I’d be open to Colorado or another good team. Jets were beyond interested. I’m pretty convinced the only way Toews wasn’t gonna be a jet is if the Jets weren’t interested Edited Friday at 08:20 PM by Goalie
TrueBlue4ever Posted Friday at 08:34 PM Report Posted Friday at 08:34 PM Does this signing spur Ehlers at all to stay? We can’t offer him a first line role, but if we have a stronger second line that allows him to get 1A line minutes and point production, is that enough to keep him here?

We can't pay him what he will likely get in free agency. Don't think this changes anythying. Piggy 1 1

Don't think this changes anythying. 9 million for Ehlers is insane. He’s never hit 60 points and doesn’t play all 82 ever. Thing is tho say he gets 9 and is 9 x 7 years. That’s 63 million max. Jets could offer 8 (still pretty high considering Corey Perry had more playoff goals at age 40 than Ehlers does his entire career) but 8 million x 8 years (only jets can offer the 8th year) 64 million. personally I don’t think he’s worth it cuz once he loses his speed he’s finished. I don’t think he’s a top line guy on a contender, his injury history is just long. And he’s not consistent playoff performer at all. I’d prob be comfortable 7 x 7. Even 7 x 5 or 6 years but yup someone will overpay and be stupid. We will replace him with a couple value signings I feel. I think JT could attract some potential free agents. Rumors are P Kane could be one. Perfetti Toews Kane? Edited Saturday at 03:50 PM by Goalie

I think bonus money counts up front, but is a playoff bonus different. A $2 million cap hit would be great, but a $7 million cap hit is an overpay. 40 minutes ago, Goalie said: 9 million for Ehlers is insane. And he may well get that on the open market. Then my big concern is if that is the bar set, how much will Kyle Connor cost us in his next contract. Hope to see an extension on him soon at $9.5 million before the free agency lunacy drives up his price to &12-13 million per.
Goalie Posted Saturday at 05:16 PM Report Posted Saturday at 05:16 PM (edited) KC a big Winnipeg fan. I wouldn’t be surprised if an extension is announced when it can be or shortly after. He’s part of Helles crew with Iafallo now samberg Perfetti and pionk. Big ice fishing and hunting and regular fishing guy. Likely to see KC on the water or in the bushes. Top line guy also. KC is what some ppl think Ehlers is. He’s our goal scorer. Edited Saturday at 05:17 PM by Goalie

My understanding is that it counts initially as $2M, but any bonuses earned has to get absorbed either in this year's cap or any overage gets applied to next years, which is already going up. I suspect the Jets likely treat it internally as a $5M hit for now, which covers the games played bonuses. If he's not playing / performing, you have room to add at the deadline. If he's performing, then he's certainly worth the $5M-$7M hit.

Hope to see an extension on him soon at $9.5 million before the free agency lunacy drives up his price to &12-13 million per. Toews cap is 2 million. Rest is bonus. It’s all playoff related bonus money. So they can defer it to next year. I guess it’s like if the jets win the cup and JT plays the majority of games, he makes an extra 5 million really and if jets win the cup, who cares about the extra 5 million. But I’m not convinced if Ehlers leaves we will be spending to the cap then cuz how exactly. We got lots of cap space and Vilardi and samberg to sign as rfas. I’m looking at potential free agents and I dunno who we realistically sign unless it’s a boeser or someone like that aka exactly that. Jets do like him so it’s possible I guess but a dude signing here as a UFA gonna need to prob be familiar (boeser is) so yeah. I’d be surprised tho. Lambert ain’t replacing Ehlers either so. Chibrikov prob tho. Nino names Chib is prob a line. Don’t see lambert on line 2. He’s not there yet. If Ehlers leaves we could sign a boeser to replace him. Or we could sign 2 guys at 4 million. Who knows. Options but the free agents to Winnipeg market is likely limited. Edited 4 hours ago by Goalie
Goalie Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/free-agents/_/year/2025/type/ufa realistically. There isn’t a lot of options. Maybe you trade the 1st and a prospect for a now guy. I dunno who tho. Buffalo has a few interesting players in Tuch and Peterka. Edited 4 hours ago by Goalie
