2021 CFL Entry Draft

First "Top 20" rankings released today.......

https://www.sportsnet.ca/cfl/article/iowa-offensive-lineman-tops-cfls-first-scouting-bureaus-top-prospects-list/

TORONTO — Alaric Jackson, an offensive lineman at the University of Iowa, has the No. 1 spot in the first edition of the CFL scouting bureau’s top-20 prospects for the 2021 draft.

The six-foot-six, 315-pound Jackson is a native of Windsor, Ont. He’s entering his senior season at Iowa, which kicks off its ’20 campaign Oct. 24 at Purdue.

Jackson started 10 of Iowa’s 13 games last season at left tackle. He redshirted in 2016 but has started for the Hawkeyes since 2017.

The CFL released its top-20 list Thursday.

Calgary’s Amen Ogbongbemiga, a senior linebacker at Oklahoma State University, was the second-ranked prospect. The six-foot-one, 235-pound Ogbongbemiga has registered a team-high 22 tackles (12 solo) and 1.5 sacks in three games for the No.10 Cowboys (3-0).

Ogbongbemiga had 100 tackles last season and was named the Cowboys’ top defensive player.

Vancouver’s Terrell Jana, a receiver at Virginia (1-1), is at No. 3. The six-foot-one, 200-pound Jana has nine catches for 84 yards and a TD this season after registering 74 receptions for 886 yards and three touchdowns in 2019.

Josh Palmer of Brampton, Ont., a receiver at Tennessee, holds down the No. 4 spot. The six-foot-two, 210-pound senior has 10 receptions for 156 yards and two TDs for the Volunteers (2-0).

At No. 5 is Ottawa’s Liam Dobson, a six-foot-three, 340-pound senior offensive lineman at Maine. Dobson’s ranking comes despite the Bears not starting their season until the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dobson enjoyed a stellar ’19 campaign, earning All-CAA first-team honours and being voted as Maine’s top offensive lineman. He was the school’s highest-graded offensive lineman for every game and averaged 12 knockdowns per contest.

Dobson contributed immediately upon arriving at Maine in 2017, appearing in six contests (one start) as a freshman. He became a full-time starter in 2018.

The remainder of the top-10 includes, in order, includes: New Mexico State offensive lineman Sage Doxtater (Welland, Ont.); North Carolina State defensive lineman Daniel Joseph (Toronto); North Carolina defensive back Patrice Rene (Ottawa); Maine linebacker Deshawn Stevens (Toronto); and West Virginia defensive back Alonzo Addae (Pickering, Ont.).

The first 10 selections were all from NCAA programs, not a surprise given U Sports cancelled its 2020 season due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. The top Canadian collegian was Montreal offensive lineman Pier-Olivier Lestage, of Saint-Eustache, Que., at No. 11.

The other U Sports selections included Calgary Dinos offensive lineman Logan Bandy of Calgary (No. 12), Saskatchewan defensive back Nelson Lokombo of Abbotsford, B.C. (No. 14), British Columbia linebacker Ben Hladik of Vernon, B.C., (No. 16), Calgary linebacker Grant McDonald of Tsawwassen, B.C. (No. 19) and U.B.C. linebacker Nick Cross of Regina (No. 20).

Defensive back Deane Leonard, who helped Calgary win the Vanier Cup last year before transferring to Ole Miss for 2020, was ranked. No. 13.

it's been mentioned several times since Tuesday that we took futures picks because we still have to evaluate last year's draft class, and having two years of draft class in camp along with everyone el

I actually like the idea of futures picks but I trust Walters. I mean we haven't lost a game in two years.

As far as futures picks go, hes a future futures pick.

And allegedly he can dunk a basketball. I wanna see that. Reminds me alot of larry allen. Dude flies when hes pulling, crazy speed for an ol of any weight. And that strength is insane too. Watching him 1 hand a lineman then punch move pancake a rushing backer is nuts.  Edit. Allegedly a 30" inch vert, 4.84 shuttle, 8 sec 3 cone and 8'10" range broad jump.  Probably does all the reps of 225 too. Pretty crazy athleticism.

Imagine him in 2022, maybe he drops 25 pounds and goes through the tour of nfl combine preparation camps...

This is another deep futures pick.  Probably a late round NFL pick next year if healthy and he returns to form. If he is healthy and improves he could move up. Another low risk high reward. If he ever comes to the CFL hes probably the steal of the draft.

Kramdi looks like an attempt to replace exume and re stock on db/sts depth.

Adding another body at WR would be nice.

And another canadian mafia type. Smart, tough, hard nosed guy who can contribute on teams.

Two years in a row the Bombers pick a former teammate of mine. Last year (Nick Dhielly). Think he will be a CFL player for sure. Big/athletic should find a home on special teams at the very least. He played cover Linebacker at the U of R but he is a gym rat and I think he would be better suited to add another couple pounds and play inside linebacker. Hoping for the best from him, good dude with a bigger personality.

I don't like taking guys from the Gap.

We took Demski and Willie J from there. I’m OK with taking talent, don’t get hung up on where they come from.

I'll clarify, I don't like drafting players with from Saskatchewan because they tend to go home when their contracts are up.

I love this get, a demski 2.0. Elite NI athlete. Can be a wr/hb tweener allowing us to dress a back up to harris and still get good use out of them. 4.38-4,40 speed 6.95 cone  4.19 shuttle, 10'3" broad jump, 35" vert, 22 reps of 225 at 6'0 200lbs. Rb, return man, wr, if he was a holder / back up P/K he'd be the perfect ni depth man.

Always nice to get a local guy, and we are going after NI dbs hard in this draft.

How many NI Dbs to the Bombers need?🤠

Always good to have them on STs.  Exume was such a gem in 2019 maybe hoping for some of that form these guys.

And another guy I know. I think he will be a stud in the CFL. Super fast and well built. Bombers should be able to have a Canadian Backfield for a while with him and Oliveria. Unfortunately got busted for PEDs and missed out on the 2019 seasons which probably hurt his draft stock. The PED suspension seemed like bullshit and it seems like everyone in Sask football community has kind of just accepted or thinks he unknowingly  took it just like Harris, including me. Guy is really highly thought of for his work ethic and just being a good dude.

all of them lol. I think kramdi is that guy this year. Not saying he will replicate his success as a year 1 guy, but they are cut from the same cloth. His physicality reminds me of loffler, but he looks like a much better tackler and blitzer. And a turn key teams guy like exume was. I would bet if healthy hes on our gameday roster this year.

They said on the broadcast that it's the deepest, most talented DB draft in recent memory. That's music to The Trinity's ears. Gonna load up on em.

Love and hate the Dobson pick....but closer to loving it. He is a bluechipper. Best OL in the drsft and has a mean streak a mile long. I dont mind taking the futures approach to the 1st 2 rounds.

I suspect it’s Patty Nuefelds  last year in football in 2021 so Dobson should have an opening in 22 after college.
