Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

Manitoba at least seems to be trending in the right direction. The colony outbreaks *seem* to be under control. Hopefully the 6 in hospital pull through and there's no more deaths. Out here in AB, we're going the opposite direction. Things are just awful and seem to be getting worse.

Not spreading further from those 5 communities.  We are not hearing high case numbers, so hopefully that is a good sign. The hospitalizations are a concern.

That sounds fantastic.  Sweden definitely has the models that should be followed with regards to COVID...

Between Sweden, Trump and Stella Emmanuel - we have all the guidelines and solutions we need.

I guess its fun to say how horribly out of control Alberta is... but again I don't see it

The serious cases/deaths seem centred on the Good Samaritan nursing home

Antibody testing is showing how rampant covid was in mid-May... 36000 Albertans infected before lockdown started.

I'd be very interested to see tracking numbers of deaths and hospitalizations.

New data for Canada is saying that beyond the 80% of deaths in nursing homes... 80% of the remaining deaths are minority/poverty related

Seems like the only thing we aren't talking about is care for the elderly and the poor right now.

The Canada Border Services Agency is tightening up the rules for Americans and other foreign nationals travelling through Western Canada on the way to Alaska, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Beginning Friday, foreign nationals travelling to Alaska for non-discretionary purposes will only be allowed to enter the country through five border crossings in Western Canada.

Each visitor will be allowed a "reasonable period of stay" to make the journey, but will be limited to following "the most direct route" to Alaska, according to a CBSA press release. They must avoid all national parks, leisure sites and tourism activities along the way, and must report to Canadian border officers when they leave the country.

Every driver will be given a tag to hang from their rear-view mirror "to support compliance," the press release says. That tag will include the date by which they must leave Canada.

Here's the official statement from the gov't: https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/news/2020/07/covid-19-stricter-rules-for-foreign-nationals-transiting-through-canada-to-alaska.html

- Some members of Jared Kushner's coronavirus task force believed the pandemic would affect Democratic areas worse and may have adjusted accordingly, Vanity Fair reported.
In March and early April, Kushner gathered a team to devise a nationwide response to the pandemic.

A public-health expert in regular contact with the team told the magazine that "the political folks" thought a nationwide response was a bad political move.
At the time, outbreaks were worst in Democratic-voting states and cities. The source suggested that some close to Kushner thought it was best to hold back and blame governors.
Kushner's plan was indeed dropped in favor of a mainly state-by-state response. Since then, cases have surged in states on both sides of the political divide.

Not even the least bit surprised by those comments. What a ******* moron. Will go down in history as, by far, the worst president in US history, with - again, by far - the most deaths single-handedly due to him.

MLB  has to of known that an uptick in cases would happen as soon as they started playing, they should of set up 4 hubs and bubbled the players, now Manfred is threatening to end the season if they can't get a handle on the virus.

According to the governor, it shouldn’t matter..

No contact worries - Mennonites tend to grow their own veggies.

In all seriousness, selling summer veggies as we do every year, has become a social distancing / curb side procedure.
