What people seem to not understand is that the gov't was not going to fall, even with a failed confidence vote. As a gov't, you can lose confidence but you can also gain confidence. Another vote would would re-establish confidence. 

Everyone acts like this was a big deal but it wasn't. Just a talking point. 

They certainly didn't prorogue gov't to avoid falling. 

I think its funny ppl think it was only the liberals with this whole snc lavalin thing when its quite apparent this goes back to past fed govts aswell... Cons liberals.. They all were involved

In testimony before the Commons justice committee last month, Ms. Wilson-Raybould described a Sept. 16, 2018, conversation between her then-chief of staff, Jessica Prince, and the Prime Minister’s Quebec adviser, Mathieu Bouchard, and senior adviser Elder Marques about negotiating an out-of-court settlement with SNC-Lavalin.

Ms. Wilson-Raybould says she plans to provide follow-up written testimony this week to the committee to show there was high-level political interference in the SNC-Lavalin matter."

 

It is also a criminal code offence to provoke fear in the AG, the PMO needs to be investigated on both counts.

Im really curious if there was a quid pro quo offered other then the idea JT's get was to preserve jobs.   You'd think the normal reaction when being extorted or whatever by a big company would be to press mute, scream "Go **** yourselves" and then turn mute off and say "we want you to stay in Canada but the PMO does not involve itself in criminal investigations.  Oh and by the way, Im now referring this call to the RCMP.  Thanks!"

Thing is, the original convo happens off the record with Butts (or someone else in the PMO office). If there are documents, someone thought it was a good idea to proceed with something more formal 'threat'. Yikes.

He should have called the RCMP, got wired up, called SNC back for a formal "offer" and then said "well, I guess you're not leaving after all, are you..."

Just another day in the life of our Prime Minister who can't stop tripping over his feet even when standing still.. The gift that keeps on giving.

No. Saying thanks for the donation was the wrong thing to say. Then talking about his government's reconciliation success while being heckled & two protestors were being dragged out was arrogant. Trudeau was trying to be condescending & snotty. It backfired.

It was wrong and he apologized, meaning he even thought it was wrong. 

 

From a political science point-of-view, I'm finding this fascinating. JT is tarnished and nothing he does or says now is working. 

It's the PC tradition to eat their own. Not so with the Libs. It will be interesting to see if they eat JT or continue to fight for him. I think it could lead to a big rift, long standing rift.

We saw (and continue to see) something similar within the provincial NDP. I know and converse regularly, with people "in the party" that were anti-Selinger. The bitterness remains. The party is still fractured. 

Some pretty damning testimony has come to light today - the fall out / results will be interesting indeed...

Now some in the media & on social media are focusing on JWR taping conversations. That Wernick was unaware & that as a lawyer she knew it was wrong. Trying to twist it in Trudeau's favour. How does she stay in the Liberal caucus? She must be hated.

She stays because the optics of Trudeau forcing her out would probably be the final nail in the Liberal coffin.

The cries of "unethical" by partisan media and  apologists on JWRS recordings is rich.  If a woman secretly recorded a plot by perceived enemies of leftists she would be hailed as a "hero" , "courageous" and a "role model" for "standing up to the patriarchy" etc. Etc. Then given awards and lifetime employment and endless paid feminist and diversity  speaking tours if she wanted it.

"She persisted" indeed.

The temp in the room must drop by a hundred degrees when she & Philpott enter. She's out to get Trudeau. Maybe have him removed as leader.
