US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Over the past four years and in the last four months in particular, the GOP jackholes have been installing "their people" in every position of authority that they could- in the judiciary, the intelligence agencies, the civil service and so forth. This is going to provide the Biden administration with a very difficult problem. In effect, the Trump people have tried to create what they railed against but was nonexistent- a "deep state" that seeks to undermine the policies of the administration. The only way this can be changed is that all of the Trump appointees need to be scrutinized and removed where necessary.

My final word on Trump the president, he tried to divide and succeeded, he didn't want to continue doing the job that was needed by the POTUS but he needed it's protections and wanted to be a King, tomorrow he leaves in disgrace with none of the class of defeated presidents of the past to be investigated for the rest of his miserable life, taking a long walk of a short pier and disappearing is to much to ask for but for the sake of America his crimes and those of all his enablers and those that protected him need to be investigated, Pence, McConnell, Barr, Blanche and little Hitler are at the top of the list followed by Kushner, Mnuchin, McLiar, McCarthy, Meadows and Pompeo, then the healing can begin

Republican Party official suggests he discussed the possibility of secession

Wyoming Republican Party Chairman Frank Eathorne is starting to draw attention for recent comments suggesting an interest in secession.  The Casper Star Tribune' recent report flagged the remarks, which Eathorne made in a conversation with Steve Bannon on his podcast. They were discussing the future of the Republican Party.

"We are straight-talking, focused on the global scene, but we're also focused at home," Eathorne said. "Many of these Western states have the ability to be self-reliant, and we're keeping eyes on Texas too, and their consideration of possible secession. They have a different state constitution than we do as far as wording, but it's something we're all paying attention to."

Bannon said he was against secession but would like to discuss it later. The Tribune followed up with Eathorne, and he seemed to downplay the idea, though he admitted to discussing it: "Only a brief conversation with the Texas GOP in earlier work with them." He added: "Won't come up again unless the grass roots brings it up."

Texas GOP Chair Allen West made similar remarks in December after the Supreme Court dismissed one of the ridiculous lawsuits attempting to overturn the result of the 2020 election on Trump's behalf.

"This decision will have far reaching ramifications for the future of our constitutional republic," West said. "Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution."

That leads to the open question of what happens if there is a tie procedural vote on party lines. Could Harris act as Judge and also cast a tie-breaking vote as President of the Senate?

So once out of office, what other dirt comes out about his time in office? Will the full depth of his corruption be exposed or will people in the media just move on with the indictments he has pending? Will we see the monetary side deals that have so far not been uncovered? And will the pee tape ever see the light of day - more or less likely now that he is out?

"Donald Trump? Never heard of him."

…moscow mitch.

Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday accused President Trump of provoking the violent crowd that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

“The last time the Senate convened, we had just reclaimed the Capitol from violent criminals who tried to stop Congress from doing our duty. The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people,” McConnell said on the Senate floor, marking the first convening of the full Senate since the attack.

This is a clear signal to the saner elements of the GOP that Trump is officially a pariah. Never mind that McConnell was his chief enabler for four years.

They will try to save their own skins now maybe even try to re write history

It's incredible how many people have declined Trump's invitation to his big Military send off, maybe if they fired him out of a cannon more would attend

Watching Trump get off the helicopter and take that damn 21 gun salute.   Guns pointed in wrong direction though...

"I'm so popular, so popular."
"What we have done is amazing....the VA, have given us a approval numbers like no one have has ever had."

Stopping there......and putting on some soothing music...

The big Orange tent has been collapsed, and thrown onto the nearest helicopter, hopefully to be placed in storage forever.....

Nothing can be done about the collapse of the American empire, which is long done, but, hopefully, they'll stop dragging the rest of us down with them. They need to start by rooting out the white supremacists.

And with that Canada's 4 year international nightmare has ended. Kinda want this thread to be locked and burned now.

It's not over. They've exported the radicalism that has led to Trump. The poison of the alt-right is being warmly welcomed by the CPC. We're a long way away from being rid of the populism and the white supremacy.
