Just watched the full Trump Coronavirus press conference.  Him and Pence....what a dog and pony show.  A heady mix of Ignorance and incoherence

Funny thing is..... when the WHO and other world health entities warned that containment would fail and outbreaks would occur everywhere......Trump said there was no problem and that the U.S. is "ready to adapt" if the disease spread, emphasizing, “We’re very, very ready for this.  Kudlow also asserted that the US was "airtight" in its containment.

No concern shown by the WH on this subject at all.....

....until the Dow dropped 1500 points in 2 days.  Hence that press conference.

Priorities.

Note:  Today, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Thursday that 33 people in California have tested positive for Coronavirus, with officials monitoring more than 8,400 people for the virus.

So market crashes over 1,000 points Monday, and another 850 points Tuesday. Trump tweets Wednesday (Tuesday night? 3:00 a.m. Wednesday? Exact time is unclear) that the market crash is due to the hysteria from the MSM and not the Coronavirus uncertainty, and points to the talking points at the Democratic debate blaming the government for being ill-prepared as instilling unfounded market fears. Note that the market had dropped 1,900 points BEFORE the debate had even happened. So a Wednesday correction early as the market jumps over 400 points but can't even sustain it by noon, and ends up another 125 in the red by day's end. So Trump holds a press conference to quell all fears and presumably steady the market from all the unfounded doom and gloom coronavirus naysayers.

The presser's info?

Trump says he doesn't think the epidemic will hit the US, maybe will hit the US, probably will hit the US (all in the same speech) but that they are more prepared than anyone in history has ever been. Says he found out it is not like the flu, then says later it is like the flu (CDC head was standing behind him and later gave their own briefing to say it is NOT like the flu). Says a simple vaccine is being developed very quickly [CDC again at the post-Trump "correction" conference says 6-8 months at absolute fastest for efficacy trials for any vaccine - which is a time frame that has never been met before, BTW (their own words, not mine) and that the application won't really be in effect for 18 months]. Appoints VP Pence, "an expert in the area", to handle the potential epidemic (note to those who hadn't already figured it out from Pence's religious, anti-science, evolution-rejecting background and want to vett his credentials - he isn't an expert in the field).

The result of the presser (remember the goal is in part to quell the hysteria that the Dems are feeding to the media)?

Dow down an all-time record 1,200 points today. 10% drop in 4 days (officially in correction territory). And some analysts rightly point our that that tumble is based solely on fear of what could happen at this point and no real actual lasting tangible damage that has already occurred from the epidemic, one that the CDC says is inevitable.

I'm guessing the speech did not have the effect he intended.

But "BEST ECONOMY IN HISTORY!"

So suggesting decisive action to address the spread of virus isn't racist anymore ? Things change fast.

Wow, 27 minute lag time. You're slipping.

A month ago it was still  "relax its just the flu". Two weeks ago anti Trump media's biggest worry about the Corona virus was the the Health Department,s  task force had too many white people and worried about people were being mean to Chinese.

Good to see they're starting to take this seriously and laying blame for un preparedness  where it should be.

no, but it is racist to suggest that USA-residing foreign nationals are being assembled in a giant conspiracy to vote illegally and swing key congressional districts.

What ever happened to that, anyway?

Democrats using illegal/legal immigration to change voter demographics is a "giant conspiracy" ?

silly, you know that's not what I'm talking about (though I do wonder about which demographic changes in particular concern you)

I'm talking about this claim:

You still haven't told us which districts were flooded by this conspiracy of non-citizen illegal voters, or why the Pence/Kobach commission disbanded quietly without finding any of those voters, much less the conspiracy controlling them.

Crazed Marxist Operative....enemy of the state....she probably is a knowing carrier, who planned to spread the virus, throughout the administration.

I checked in with Soros, she was vaccinated in 2018 and got her booster while the media was distracted by the impeachment.

So yeah it sure seems likely that the die is cast on PLAN INDIGO OMICRON.

may God have mercy on our souls*

Remember!  While our labs are proud of their record on diversity, the MAGA-targeting RNA they jacked into the coronavirus is not 100% foolproof.  Do get your vaccination ASAP.

* since God is a lesbian of color we'll probably be good.

This is crazy.  Crazy because it was also so predictable with this administration.  Maybe the WH should have stuck with what they know and put the evacuees in cages (/s).

It might be significant that the first case in the U.S. where the patient has no direct travel vectors to infected zones or people is from one of the counties where these workers were sent to and allowed to leave freely.

U.S. workers without protective gear assisted coronavirus evacuees, HHS whistleblower says

Feb. 27, 2020 at 3:18 p.m. CST

Officials at the Department of Health and Human Services sent more than a dozen workers to receive the first Americans evacuated from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, without proper training for infection control or appropriate protective gear, according to a whistleblower complaint.

The workers did not show symptoms of infection and were not tested for the virus, according to lawyers for the whistleblower, a senior HHS official based in Washington who oversees workers at the Administration for Children and Families, a unit within HHS.

The whistleblower is seeking federal protection, alleging she was unfairly and improperly reassigned after raising concerns about the safety of these workers to HHS officials, including those within the office of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar. She was told Feb. 19 that if she does not accept the new position in 15 days, which is March 5, she would be terminated.

The whistleblower has decades of experience in the field, received two HHS department awards from Azar last year and has received the highest performance evaluations, her lawyers said.

The complaint was filed Wednesday with the Office of the Special Counsel, an independent federal watchdog agency. The whistleblower’s lawyers provided a copy of a redacted 24-page complaint to The Washington Post. A spokesman for the Office of the Special Counsel confirmed that it has received the complaint and assigned the case.

The complaint alleges HHS staffers were “improperly deployed” and were “not properly trained or equipped to operate in a public health emergency situation.” The complaint also alleges the workers were potentially exposed to coronavirus because appropriate steps were not taken to protect them and staffers were not trained in wearing personal protective equipment, even though they had face-to-face contact with returning passengers. The workers were in contact with passengers in an airplane hangar where evacuees were received and on two other occasions: when they helped distribute keys for room assignments and hand out colored ribbons for identification purposes.

In some instances, the teams were working alongside personnel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in “full gown, gloves and hazmat attire,” the complaint said.

“We take all whistleblower complaints very seriously and are providing the complainant all appropriate protections under the Whistleblower Protection Act. We are evaluating the complaint and have nothing further to add at this time,” HHS spokeswoman Caitlin Oakley said.

The whistleblower, in her complaint, states that “appropriate steps were not taken to quarantine, monitor, or test [the workers] during their deployment and upon their return home.” The repatriated Americans were among those evacuated from Wuhan and quarantined on military bases in California and Texas because they were considered at high risk for contracting the flu-like illness.
