US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Why doesn’t Miller just push for a ban on  non whites and stop beating around the bush.

One group of Trump supporters think another group q-anon,  is getting suckered by crazy stuff. LOL,  at the ridiculousness of that.

QAnon supporters — who believe in outlandish claims outlined in anonymous internet posts that Trump is engaged in a good-versus-evil struggle against a global pedophile cabal. it’s not clear that the pushback from the various pro-Trump personalities will dissuade anyone. Their tweets attacking QAnon are often besieged with replies from fans who believe in QAnon and are now shocked to see that their political heroes don’t.

Further complicating the effort, the pro-Trump figures now trying to fight QAnon have often embraced equally outlandish conspiracy theories themselves. And everyone involved supports Trump, who built his political career pushing the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was actually born in Kenya.

Hahahahahaha!

If the Democrats can't defeat these dimwit rat fockers, they should pack it in.

My favourite part of the article:

Fearing the left will turn the conspiracy theory against them, the president’s cheerleaders try to talk sense into the grassroots. It’s not working.

The idea that patrons of Daily Caller or Infowars..... would be able to question outlandish conspiracy theories, or could try to "talk sense" into the perpetrators .....is really pretty epic.

These are remarkable times.

The GOP as it currently sits, fully embracing the alt white nationalist agenda would LOVE, LOVE to make the liberals worst conspiracy fear come true - a reason to disavow election results, declare martial law, suspend the constitution and take control

And here I thought the tea bag party was the worst that the Republican establishment could drudge up. 2012 Wanna-b-fanboy is gravely mistaken.

not sure the Democrats are any different, and if you think so, you're pretty naive.  Here in BC we have the BC NDP and the Greens feverishly trying to change our election laws to bring in some form of voting that guarantees that they will keep power.  No matter what side of the spectrum, you have crazy people who hate democracy.

Ohio stayed Republican tonight.  And yet all we hear is how much the Republicans suck.  Fair enough.  So what's the problem?  Why are they still winning?  Saying that it's because voters are stupid is a sure fire way to keep losing.  There is a bigger picture here.

By razor thin margin. It should not have been even close.  The regressive won Ohio by double digits in 2016. That is concerning for the regressive. November is going to be huge for the Democrats.

IIRC they are pushing for proportional representation- the PUREST form of democracy... those crazy democracy hating LIBTARDS!

Yeah, not quite the same. The left generally fights for the 90% whilst the right generally undermines the 90% and caters to the top 10%.

That's not determined yet. Provisional votes won't be counted for 10 days and, with results this close, there could be a re-count.

Yup, Ohio stayed Republican tonight.

But that particular seat, was ranked 70th, as far as Democratic prospects for House seats, this year.   Supposed to be a slam dunk.  The GOP had to pour many millions into it, the last 2 weeks, to hold it - by 0.5%...or less.

Take a closer look at the next planned round of GOP tax cuts.......

In either regard, its sort of crazy to think it would happen.  But imagine a scenario where Obama (or Clinton or W. for that matter) decided, nope, Im not leaving.  Now imagine a scenario where in 2020, the vote is really close but Trump loses.  His people ramp up a false narrative of voter fraud.  Trump declares the results illegitimate and says he's ordering an investigation that could take X amount of months and until then, the results are set aside and the election is disregarded.  The Dems (and like-minded Republicans) would take it to the supreme court where they'd lose because its been stacked.

Come Inauguration day, Trump just refuses to leave.  There are riots and protests.  He sends in the military to quell them.

Its crazy.  But doesnt it sound a lot more likely now than ever before?

Even before the election he won, Trump was saying he might not accept the results.  What happens if he takes that position in 2020 and loses?  Does the Secret Service just toss him out on his ass?

Both statements above are untrue.  Other than the Libtard comment.  That I agree with 100%.  :)

what kind of type of vote reform are they pushing through?

Why do conservatives hate democracy so much? North and South of the Border. Pro gerrymandering, Pro voter suppression, Anti voting system security, Anti proportional representation. If you can't get elected without bending the rules to give yourself an advantage, maybe you should change your platform to actually represent the people who vote? I just watched Get Me Roger Stone on Netflix, it's fascinating and horrifying all the dirty tricks and despicable things Republican strategists have done to consolidate power in the US. Recommended watch.
