US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

You ask for immunity when you can get yourself off the hook, by passing it up the line.   Flynn was sitting at a table reading or listening to something that is going to deep six him.

At least this time he wasn't shouting from the campaign stage about locking people up.....

TUP is right. According to Flynn himself asking for immunity means you probably committed a crime.

Good thing you can get groceries delivered in the US....

Flynn won't be leaving home much now.

Going to have to  get plastic surgery and go into witness protection. Move to Venezuela.

Trump's Lesson: don't publicly spit in the face of the intelligence and police services.

Tin hat on now: look for a distraction for us..... some kind of terror attack.

Imagine the consequences if it comes out that Russia interfered with US election, and conspired with a candidate for President?

Going public probably affords him the best chance at survival. Had he quietly slipped away he'd end up dead on a perfectly reasonable "accident". Too much light on him now.

It could start the ball rolling of others coming forward. Do they want to put Manafort away or can he be swayed to turn on Trump?

Or, as his lawyer is a bit implying, he comes out guns ablazing, defending Trump and himself, lies threw his teeth but has immunity from prosecution . . .

That would be a pretty lousy prosecutor. I would think they don't just grant immunity without an idea as to what they're getting in return.

They don't have to grant it at all. They could make him testify and potentially prosecute him regardless. Plus waiting risks someone else taking immunity before you can.

This makes it clear why the admin was lying about Flynn and Manaforts roles a couple weeks ago. They suspected this was potentially coming.

Now the back channel solution is to lean on Flynn to take a bullet for Trump and get pardoned down the road.

They can't compel him to implicate himself in a crime though. He could do time for hindering prosecution and get a pardon right before Trump is impeached.

POTUS pardons are binding and cannot be reversed.

Yes he could take the 5th.  But that alone is fairly damning.  I mean, did you meet with Russian officials at this specific time?  "I plead the 5th".  Did Trump know about it?  "I plead the 5th".  That doesnt play well.

Trump pardoning...I strongly suspect it happens eventually.  He wont care how bad it looks.

Better question, will Pence pardon Trump?  It will sink Pence on re-election.

If it is not BS, some of this will revolve around the Obama Sanctions against Russians. The rest would be around Trump and company  - and their financial links and relations with Putin stooges and banks that laundered money for the Russians.  (one in Russia and one in Germany)

You had Flynn being paid to celebrate a major Putin propaganda tool, then having conversations, where he first lied about them, and after ...couldn't quite remember if sanctions were discussed.

Sessions had some friendly chats with the Russian Ambassador, about something or...... other that he lied about.

Carter Page ran to Russia, in the middle of a election campaign, and had multiple conversations (according to FBI) with shady bankers and politicians

Son-in law Jarred had contact with a known money laundering Russian bank.

Manifort had to bail from his position - because of rumblings from the Justice Dept. about his running around with Russians

Political leverage (sanctions) and the money trail.    Also interesting to speculate who would "profit" from the sanctions being lifted.

I so hope your tin foil isn't working, I really do.

At this point, I have a feeling this is nowhere near the stage of impeach proceedings. If one thing this administration (like previous administrations but way off the wall different and impactful) are experts at and I mean experts, is the constant barrage of distractions (hey what's that over there) and befuddlement (Ideology over fact to borrow Ted Koppel's argument).

This current administration has caused a lot of people from different walks of life, especially in the media, to have this incredulous exhausted look of bewilderment on their faces (i.e., jaw drop) while laughing nervously. And laughing not because it's funny.

I would think for a great many of us around the world, regardless of our beliefs, regardless of our ideologies, regardless of our experiences and opinions, just want all of this to go away, no?

In the early days of this administration, I refereed to it here, as simply a crapfest.

Upon reflection....I might of understated the matter.

Question... Are we now in the late days of this administration?!

I should have been clearer,

I meant the Flynn offer to testify in exchange for immunity.

I'm starting to think that this Flynn immunity/testimony  thing is just another load of mud thrown on the windshield by Trump and Bannon and friends.

In their warped world view, a refusal to accept the offer, will prove to them and the twelve people left that like Trump, that Trump has done nothing wrong.

I think next time the Republicans should nominate Charlie Sheen for President.

Trump's base will say So what?

Head of Dem IC has been invited to the wh to view the evidence that barry was spying on US citizens during the election (Watergate)

wh encourages Flynn to testify in Russian meddling (McCarthyism)

It's the Dems who have turned the clock back 50 years. They have no power in government and are only relevant when they are creating conspiracy theories. Looks good on them.

And CNN's parent company, was just bought by ATT who just received that whopper contract for broadband for all first responders across the US. Won't be long before they start towing the company line too.
