I think the IHL used to subsidize playoff road teams to prevent bottom teams from tanking to not make the playoffs.

That being said a cornerstone of all leagues is honouring other leagues contracts. No one wants the NFL to ignore CFL contracts even tho they are a different league in a different country.
Wouldn't the AAF be in breach of the contract by not paying the players?

Players could negotiate large upfront bonuses which would act as a guaranteed contract.

Couture and Gray haven't shown that they are ready to start. Maybe they are but we don't really know yet. Has Neufeld ever made it through an entire season when starting?
