I believe it's fans and one was Justin Dunk on cfl.ca but I've seen about 5 mock drafts that have the bombers taking sukh Chung with the 2nd overall pick. Just curious but why is Chung the popular pick for the bombers in these mock drafts

I think i see Buff more as a luxury than a necessity. I mean, it would be nice to have him but, if you look at the team and how they are building it, they are building it through youth, draft and develop really, just signed another guy today in jimmy lodge, RW, can score, will look good on the moosecaps next season, but regardless of that, if you look at how they are building the team.. It's through youth, people talk about you build through your centers and D, YUP you sure do.. Scheif,Lowry (2 young centers), Myers,Trouba (2 young d men) Throw in guys like Morrissey who will make people realize that Chiarot is nothing more than a bottom pair d man, throw in a vet like toby and you got yourself a solid top 4 without buff, Heck, even right now this team is winning without buff, They have looked amazing the last 3 games without buff, you don't need buff to win. Buff is a luxury, he's not a necessity and reality might just be that when this young team (oh yeah, they are very young) is actually ready to compete for real, not just take a wild card spot but to legit compete and contend year in year out, guys like Buff,Ladd even, they probably won't be here to see that. This team isn't being built around Ladd and Buff, they are being built around the scheifs,lowrys,troubas,myers, the young guys, i could throw in ehlers, morrissey, petan, guys like that. I guess the hockey news there ran a story about how the winnipeg jets will be stanley cup champs in 2019, nice story but thats what 4 years away? Buff will be almost 35, really think he's the guy they are going to keep over the young guys like myers and trouba? Man, trading buff when his value is the highest would get you something good in return, if Keith Yandle whose contract expires at the same times buff does gets you a 1st and a prospect like duclair,Buff would get you at least that and in the long term, cuz that's what this is about, it's about 2 3 4 5 seasons from now, that helps you more than buff does. Buff is a popular player, he's a good player, he's not one of the best in the league tho, heck, he's not even our own best player, goes MIA for way too long at times, do you pay him like an elite d man or do you trade him this off season when his value is high and get a haul and a half that will help you in a few seasons when you are ready to legit compete. Like it or not, this team, it might make the playoffs (i think they do) but they might not, what if they don't? Gonna try again next year with the same cast of characters that haven't gotten it done for the last 4 or 5 years now? Buff is a good player tho, but he's in that age group where, well, it doesn't really fit in to what the Jets are building actually. I'll take Myers and Trouba in their early 20's over almost 30 year old buff any day. Yup, you build through centers and d man and that's exactly what Chevy has been quietly doing the last couple years (scheif,lowry,trouba,myers) That is your new core right there. The core that will take us to places that we have never been before really, that's the core plus ehlers, morrissey and a couple others that will make us legit contenders year in year out. Let's not pretend that this Jets team has been nothing but average the last few years, this year, they are better than average for sure but... it's really the first year since they have been here that they have been, normally at this time of the Jets past few seasons, we are all talking about who we are taking at the draft with our top 10 pick again. Jets have the best ranked prospect pool in all of hockey they say, what a job Chevy has done really, guy gets blasted for doing nothing but all he did was build the best prospect pool in the league and make the biggest trade in the last 5 years. The new core, that's what we all about, Those are the guys that we will win with, those are the guys that will take us from competing for a wild card spot to competing for a stanley cup and 1st in our division. In a perfect world, yup buff,ladd, stafford,frolik, they all sign new deals and the young guys get their extensions and it's all happy happy joy joy but in the salary cap world that the Jets live in, it don't work like that. You have to make choices and they are tough ones, What to do with Buff is a tough choice, it's not an easy one, but... it's a choice that Chevy will have to make soon, probably this summer, can't lose the guy for nothing if he isn't willing to extend right and can't overpay because you are gonna have to pay your young core some big money soon too. All in all, I'd take the captain over Buff. Only because our LW depth isn't as strong as your RHD depth.

They don't really need to extend them this summer, they aren't really priorities, the UFAs are the priorities and I think It's likely that one of Buff or Ladd are moved, i'm leaning towards Buff just because the Jets already have 2 top 4 RHD men, they don't need 3 and not for what it would cost to extend Buff. Buff is a popular player but other popular players have come and gone in winnipeg jets history and the team has been fine. I'd like to sign them both to extensions but.. if they want too much money or term, then it's best to move on cuz eventually the real building blocks will need extensions too, guys like Scheif,Lowry, Trouba, gonna say guys like Ehlers Morrissey and the sorts also. Signing both Ladd and Buff to long term big money contracts is not smart business.

But i do think it's a bit naive to think that these guys aren't out there doing some stuff that would make you shake your head. It's just, i guess, kids look up to these people, big time, they are heros to thousands of kids, they do all this good stuff, do work with charities, sick kids etc, I mean good for them right but... it doesn't mean they are the greatest people in the world. Didn't really hear anything relating to stafford not wanting to sign here, to be honest, it sounded like he was very happy to be here and things couldn't have gone better really. I think they sign him and i think both sides will want it to get done. Not sure about Frolik, depends on what he is asking for really. As for Little Buff and Perreault, Little and Buff will probably be back Saturday, Perreault probably not till april.

Plus Vancouver Calgary and LA are basically fighting for spots in the Pacific division too, Jets would be 2nd or tied for 2nd in that division right now.

Just a simple question here, Draft is definitely oline heavy Assuming Durant goes to Otttawa 1st overall, how much of a drop off in potential or talent is there between the # 2 ranked receiver and Durant and the # 3 ranked receiver and the # 2 ranked guy? and How much difference is there between the top ranked oline and #2 ranked oline and so on? If there is less depth at a receiver position then at oline, I could see them going receiver at 2, not gonna say Demski for sure but.. sounds like Walters has him and Durant in the same group really.

But regardless, Taking Demski would be a smart move, we need all the National help we can get, he's got potential to be very good, there will be other players left at 11 and 15. i get taking the best oline who isn't NFL bound but... we could probably get one at 11 and even 15 if we wanted too but i just don't see that happening. I think we might go Demski at 2, then i think we'd go OL at 11 but at 15, i'm not really sure. The luxury of having 3 picks really in the top 15 is you are gonna get 3 guys you probably want, just what order to take them is the big question. Reading between the lines a bit in the interviews Walters has done, seems to me he's happy with the OLINE right now, maybe not happy but content, I mean... Lets look at it for a second here, Pretty obvious we are only starting 3 nationals on the line and even if we went oline at 2, we still would be. It's gonna be 3 of the following, Greaves,Picard,Neufeld,Goossen and even Quinn Everett. one will back up (probably Goossen) and one will go to the IR or PR (Everett makes sense there) Do we really need OLINE that badly? None of these guys apparently project to be tackles, Groulx included, our interior might not be the greatest but... by adding Bryant and Picard, it adds lots, they are both better than what we previously had and both bring a bit of a nasty side to them, especially Picard. IMO, Oline at 2 isn't really a must.. Is receiver? It might be, Kohlert,JFG and then a bunch of unproven guys like Bastien,Goodrich,Carter maybe. Demski would fit in nicely there, give you another option really, sure he might not start but the guy is pretty versatile it seems. I don't really expect any of these guys to help us that much in year 1 but... Demski is pretty good depth to have at a position that really, outside of Kohlert really, it's a bit of an unknown. I know people like JFG but... Kohlert is our most proven National receiver. I'm going on the assumption that Ottawa takes Durant or they trade down and another team takes Durant first. I think it's likely Durant goes first overall, whether that be to Ottawa or someone else, i'm not sure. Lots of OLINE in the draft, theres gonna be a couple still there at 11 or 15 for sure. WIll there be any receivers? I dunno, get the feeling that due to the depth of the oline in this draft, that some teams will pass on oline and hope they are there in the 2nd round, some won't but some will because well, like i said, the depth is so strong that you are almost guaranteed an oline or 2 or more to be there in round 2 also. Gonna be interesting to see what the bombers do. Really do get the feeling that theres gonna be a run on non OL in the first round.

I wouldn't call this a MUST WIN, it would be a nice win but not a MUST WIN, must wins are against teams like Vancouver,Minni,Calgary, This would just help lots. Pav starting? Not sure i've seen that confirmed but would make sense, outside of that fluke goal he let in vs St Louis, Pav has been better than Hutch recently. Should have called this thread..
