Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
bearpants replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I don't see the connection... -
I don't remember seeing Willy get hit once during the game, or even run for his life much at all. Would you prefer we just have Pontbriand start at RB? He's probably a great blocker, if you want to sacrifice the 120 yards and game winning TD Grigsby got us. You don't remember when Willy got nailed by three Hammy rushers and stayed on the ground for a few seconds??? I thought that play was pretty critical... he got up holding his left forearm... I was starting to get nervous thinking we might get our first taste of Brohm..

Comparative analysis - How bad is the Bombers OL?
bearpants replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I doubt Neufeld loses his spot after missing half a game (and assuming he's ok for next game)... but it would be interesting to see what a Jan-Greaves-Morley-Goossen-Howard line can do.... -
I honestly want to say that Zach Anderson is our best D-lineman.... but I'm afraid to.... cuz Bryant Turner will find out.... and he'll find me.... and as we all know he has a very particular set of skills... skills that he has acquired over a very long career... skills that make him a nightmare for people like me...
-
Wasn't he a free agent? I believe he is the only player that O'Shea probably recruited himself. I believe we made him an offer that also included getting offensive snaps... where as Tor planned to just use him on teams... or maybe I just made that up in my head to justify my argument
-
I think Grigsby did a good job to "show" he was blocking then quickly run out to the flats... not a lot of LBs are gonna be able to react and respond that quickly... especially not DEs...

Jovon Johnson placed on six game IR

Apparently he's not back... -
Sometimes when I see him out there I forget we were once concerned about starting him... I can now say I would feel 100% comfortable starting JFG, Kohlert, and Watson if the ratio circumstances required... and Watson was actually healthy
-
I have no issue with his play, and certainly would have put zero blame on him if we lost... I think he's turning out to be a great receiver... point is, some guys get shaken when they make a turnover... in this case the fumble... but he showed great poise and professionalism to come back and make the catch to set up the game winner
-
Speaking of honourable mention... how about that catch by JFG on the 3 with seconds left in the game.... to hang on to the ball while getting blasted by the safety was incredible.... huge atonement for the fumble earlier...
-
I agree... the best part may have been that it was unexpected...
-
I know this has been asked before, but I feel it's worth bringing up again since you never gave an answer... Where, exactly, did you get your doctorate from again??

[MERGED] Bombers Add Justin Blackmon to Neg List
bearpants replied to Goalie's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Really??... did you ever watch him play? In 4 games last year he had 29 catches, 415 yard and a TD.... and that's playing for Jacksonville!... If he can get it together.... he will absolutely be a star... might be too late for him now... -
Don Matthews joins Als coaching staff

Trestman? the team was well-run before Trestman... Calvillo?? It sure makes it easy to run a team when you're winning all the time... -
I'm a little surprised Donovan Kemp hasn't been given a shot yet...

[MERGED] Bombers Add Justin Blackmon to Neg List

If he can get his life on track he is going to be an absolute superstar.... in the NFL I'm not holding my breath on this one -
anonymous thoughts from CFL coaches/execs
bearpants replied to bearpants's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think I posted this somewhere at some point but I feel the league should be 1-9, no matter of division.... but the top two seeds go to the division winners... so the playoff standings would currently be: 1. Cal 2. Ham 3. Edm 4. Wpg 5. Sask 6. BC -

What's that smell?.... it's familiar but I haven't noticed it's pungent aroma around here in a while... DESPERATION! -
I feel much more comfortable being 7 deep at MLB.... Not sure if we'll have the depth to compete this week

Pretty sure Etch interviewed with Hamilton last year. But in the article the person says "...I didn't return his call... I should have interviewed him" -

I'm curious to know which execs/coachs said what... eg which HC/GM was in a position to be hiring a new DC last year and passed on Etch? -
Winnipeg vs. Hamilton discussion thread
bearpants replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I expect there will be a lot of rotation on defense.... while we have Sherman, Bucknor and Thomas listed as starters expect to see Anderson play a lot, as well as Unamba and maybe even Staudermire getting some D reps.... there will be a lot of snap with 2 Canadians on D -
Nice to see those "full" stadiums ...

When you live in BC, especially in the Interior, you get a different perspective. The lower mainland SUCKS!! BC as a whole really has a lot going for it, if we could just start exporting all of the hippies and life-long welfare cases, we'd really be somewhere. I was more referring to the infamous "BC Sucks" chant, heard at Bomber games.... I have no particular personal objection to the great province British Columbia -
http://www.winnipegsun.com/2014/07/30/west-dominance-stirs-up-realignment-talk Pretty good all-encompassing article from Penton here... the one section that I thought was particularly interesting was the anonymous thoughts from CFL coaches and executives.... I'll post here for your convenience... CFL coaches and execs give their anonymous thoughts on what they’re talking about behind closed doors: If Montreal loses the next game or two, I don’t think they’ll fire Higgins. They shouldn’t, anyway. But Popp will do something. He has to. Something big. Maybe a trade … I’ve been saying since 2007 the CFL should be one division. Winnipeg and Saskatchewan in the Grey Cup? Who was the East team? That was a joke then … The CFL should keep its divisions because of tradition. It goes in cycles. The Grey Cup loses a lot of its country-wide interest if it’s up for grabs in just half the provinces … Chris Jones’ fake punt attempt was idiocy. Fake for what? To take a knee if they got the first down? … The Argos are still the best team in the East Division. They have the best quarterback, all-around team and veteran coaches. So any time you have the best QB in the division you are the top team when the rest of the teams’ QBs are struggling … I’m tempted to say the most underrated offensive player in the league this year is Steve Morley at centre in Winnipeg, but if not him then it’s Jeff Fuller in Calgary or Taj Smith in Saskatchewan … The league should have changed the ratio when we added Ottawa. Should have lowered the number of Canadians. It’s still July, and we can’t find Canadians worth a (hoot) on the street. If we lose another Canadian starter or two, where are we going to find replacements? No one will trade Canadians. We’ve tried, but we always get ‘Can’t trade our Canadians.’ Everyone has the same problem. Four months of football left to play and barely enough good Canadians in July … When we watch Winnipeg’s defence I ask myself ‘How was Gary Etcheverry out of work in our league?’ I didn’t return his call a year ago. Watching them play, I should have interviewed him … Nothing’s wrong with Ricky Ray. Right now we’re seeing the Ricky Ray we played against when he was in Edmonton. He was good for them, but not the best in the league. When he doesn’t have great protection, he’s not a superstar. Struggles against pressure … I don’t know Doug Malone over in Saskatchewan, but his offensive line is the best in the league. He’s got the young Canadian (Ben) Heenan playing good at tackle and their young centre, number 67 (Dan Clark), impressed me … The Bombers are for real. They’re solid … Toronto will win the East. They have the best quarterback over there. Ray will stay the same. No emotional roller-coaster. Unlike Burris, he won’t start pointing fingers … The most underrated offensive linemen, the ones who don’t hear nearly enough about, are Montreal’s Luc Brodeur-Jordain and Calgary’s Dan Federkeil … It’s too early to pull the chute on Troy Smith in Montreal. Give the kid a chance. I also bolded the parts that I found especially interesting (mostly Bomber related).... thoughts?

You're kinda running in circles here... first you say he's here for a one day camp... then suggest there isn't room for him on the roster... then vehemently deny that you suggested we were signing him.... which you did Anyways, nice to have him back in town... I'm sure he'll have some good tidbits for the youngsters of this town
