Bombers are my team. Whether it's 3 or 4 downs, I'll always support them.

    Then they have the Jays.

I just love watching the Toronto media types doing an autopsy of a lost season especially by the Leafs. Hoping it goes south for them sooner than later with this years team..... As far as the Jays, give me the Twins/Royals or the Cards... I give the Toronto based teams, what the Toronto folks give the teams out west.

Now, as far as going to 4 downs versus 3 downs. I grew up watching the CFL game for years and very much enjoy, as is.

Just need to understand why the want or need for change? Is it about scoring, lots of scoring and score changes within the entire game for the purpose of placing wagers?

Yeah, that was my first thought...there is no way the Riders don't take local kid Zerr in the 1st round. There would be a lynch mob.

Well, just hang on,,, his home town is a short drive through a valley, then the MB border... once in MB a couple hour drive down yellowhead and then 3/4 quarter of an hour east on #1... Local kid perhaps, but maybe not.... Hi could be a Bomber just as much as Rider!!!!

WINNIPEG, MB., April 12, 2022 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed Canadian linebacker Eric Mezzalira.

Mezzalira (6-0, 225, McMaster University; born: March 10, 1994 in Hamilton, ON) joins the Blue Bombers after two seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2018-19) as well as spending last year on the practice roster of the Toronto Argonauts.

He has appeared in 22 Canadian Football League regular-season games, all with the Stampeders, and has registered 11 special-teams tackles and one fumble recovery. He was also a member of Calgary’s 2018 Grey Cup championship team in his rookie season.

Mezzalira was selected by the Stampeders in the second round, 17th overall, in the 2018 CFL Draft. He played in 28 games over four seasons (2014-17) at McMaster, accumulating 95.5 total tackles including 8.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. He led the Marauders with 43 tackles in 2017.

Michael Reid out of Waterloo, current free agent linebacker would fit (looks good on video).. The L-Backer (Guelph) I'm hoping the Bombers draft, may be gone by our 5th round pick... Hopefully, Mezzalira fits, but still think we need one more L-Backer to the roster...

    9. Winnipeg Blue Bombers — OL Cyrille Hogan-Saindon, Laval

The 24-year-old was an RSEQ all-star at centre for the Rouge et Or in 2021 and fills a need for Winnipeg along the interior of their offensive line. Laval offensive linemen have plummeted down draft boards in recent years due to injury problems, but Hogan-Saindon is looking to reverse that trend.

    18. Winnipeg Blue Bombers — DL Anthony Federico, Queen’s

The six-foot-four, 240-pound defender lacks the size to be an every-down player at defensive tackle in the CFL, but I could see him excelling in a rotational role in Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers lost Jonathan Kongbo to the NFL this off-season and need to add depth along the defensive line wherever they can get it.

    38. Winnipeg Blue Bombers — DB Daniel Valente, Western

The U Sports first-team all-Canadian lack elite size and speed but certainly fits Winnipeg’s mold with high character and football intelligence.

Excellent choice at #9, number #18 the right position but would look @ a different edge rusher (Hodge's pic #26) and with pic #38, go with a local pic, D-Tackle #96 from the Bisons...

I swear most of this talk, the   XFL and 4 downs comes from the fact that the media in Toronto , and Toronto in general feel like they are to big for the CFL. It's a " we are a world class city and the CFLis a secondary minor league  " thing. The leauge had one down year ( in the middle of the pandemic ) so let's blow up a 100 + year league  ??? It's just a convient excuse. Maybe those people in power in Toronto would be far better to spend their time figuring out  how to properly promote the game. Anyone seriously suggesting that someone in Toronto will suddenly say " Oh! The CFL switched to 4 downs  ! Let's go support a team we never have before ! "  is off their rocker.  What a joke.

Edit : The NFL was happy because scoring was up to 22.8 points per game post pandemic.

The CFL  is down to 43.1 points per game last year.. Yes let's panic and change the basics of the game.

Absolutely, bang on... and lets try the concept of talking No Change for a few years.

The real problem is Toronto, perhaps changing things there would help, starting with the thinking. The entire group needs to be brought down to earth in that area.

I get it and why the feelings: shortly, the NHL playoffs will start, the Leafs will make a quick exit and all will be back to normal (Leaf nation will be jumping of the CN Tower). Then, TSN will have full blown 24/7 coverage of the Leaf failures until puck drop for next season, baseball will be on until the Jays last pitch, plus we get a sprinkling of Raptors. Same old, same old...talk about needing change.. Other then the poor attendance last year, the CFL Toronto based team wasn't that bad.

Give me 3 down football as it is today. Dare I say it, even watching a Rider game, has its good points!!!

I will agree,  kicking isn't exactly a position that you want a guy to learn on the job.

Yes, a person could say its learning on the job, but again, many will say its a matter of making an adjustment or fine tuning mechanics to achieve the results required... Makes me wonder how the golf swing is with those that are voicing concerns in here...

Love these inspiring posts, can't wait to see what happens when they miss a 30 yarder to win the game.

Bombers aren't going to be as dominate as last year. A kicking game early in the year will be important. Sure hope these guys show up

Thanks, Cody. Inspiring for sure... All I will do is drive west to darn near to Onanole, turn onto the 45 and head west... There will be a tractor or combine waiting for me, that gives me piece of mind.... All is good and thoughts of the kicking game go away!!!!

It also proves that you don’t have stats to show how we were screwed with the “incompetent” kicking we suffered through. Mourtada did get better after his bad start, but his fate was sealed on this board after his first misses in his first game. People need to get past Medlock being gone. Sure our kicking game was weaker, BUT it did not cost us games like you suggest, and when the chips are down, Walters got it sorted out. Liegghio is the future and that has not changed despite his struggles hitting converts. Mourtada improved enough to keep around and deserve to fight it out at camp. And if they both crap the bed, we saw last year that there are options out there can can be airlifted in fairly quickly. Let’s just dial down the “sky is falling” rhetoric a bit, perhaps?  It’s March, we are down a kick returner and starting receiver, dropping from 4 kickers to 3 on the roster is not the death blow here.

    Bang on, TB4ever...

Focused on the draft... Its fun times... Oh yes, a kick returner and starting receiver, any to be found... Just asking?

Well for one thing kickers can get better... especially young ones.

Believe that Lirim Hajrullahu would appreciate reading that comment after he was run out of Wpg a few years back, then to see many wanting him back last year.... Shake my head.

Secondly, Marc Liegghio's university kicking was absolutely nothing to worry about, pretty damn good in my opinion and an excellent draft pick!!!! The young man needs this fan base to back him, rather than hear the boo birds come as is the case... Wow, its sad reading some of the stuff on here. Sometimes I think I'm in the green/white site... Lets not do what has been done before to the above kicker who is kicking in the NFL, today.

Mourtada, well we need to be careful here. As has been said, he needs to make the adjustments and work on his craft. Definitely wasn't a Sergi but who knows he just may surprise us... I'm not giving up on him and for sure not going to crap on him as well.

Sergi Castillo, well prior to Medlock, I liked him as a kicker when he was with us. He was good then and still is very good for our organization and looked like he was enjoying this time during the Grey Cup celebrations at the IG in December. The 2021 Grey Cup game was more than enough. I hope he does make his way back to the Wpg for the next couple years as our kicker. He's a keeper....

As far as our kicking situation in general, our management group, has had things in control for a few years now. Little is let out of the bag, until things are in place, i's are dotted and t's crossed before the fan base is made aware... We will be OK... Patience, I believe is required.

I don't post often, but have been on this site for a while.. and read most of the material..... Just my two cents, for what ever that is worth

Well said. It is crappy situation all around but it sounds like the team had reason not to trust the AH would be 100% ready for this season AND AH had reason to feel hurt by the way the team handled trying to sign him again.

That article didn't come off a as a one-sided hit piece to me at all.

For Paul Friesen, this probably was one of the hardest pieces for him to write. There have been times, that I haven't agreed with his written material, but this one gave me an idea of what occurred. Enough said.

In my opinion, no one wins here. Our home town hero is gone. Not for better situation, but just to ride of into the sunset achieving a milestone or goal that he probably has and exhibit the drive that AH has with another team. My hope when the dust settles and cooler heads prevail in the future, AH is recognized for the time that he spent as a Bomber in uniform and as community member representing them.

As for the players, my hope is that it doesn't create a division.  They among themselves talk, come back as strong as they have been in past and begin their journey at training camp to succeed. Win again for themselves, the entire team and the fan base in 22.

As for the fans, in my opinion, this just plain sucks. I'm sure many of us never visioned this. Again, enough said. My #33 jersey which is 4 years old, still hasn't been autographed (damn it), but I will still wear it on game day going forward.  Go Bombers!!!

We’re not broke. Walters always says this. So does Hufnagel.

Nobody needs to know we have money to spend until we spend it.

Huff and Walters both say that..... so as to stir up the fan base in Sask, including their own fan bases... Its all about keeping the fan base interested in the CFL...  All 3 organizations have room to sign player(s) is my belief...

There's been a lot of chatter around here about our 2021 draft pick Patrice Rene... what doe we know about this guy?... is there any chance he gets NFL interest?... Or do we think there's a good chance he's in camp this year??

Had a major injury in either 2019 or start of 2020, which sidelined him for the season... Played corner for North Carolina, was ranked very high, prior. Transferred to Rudgers this past year... Don't believe he's going to get much of a look NFL wise, but here in Canada probably will... that's my take...

for now....but if he gets no camp offers....he has to start looking north...He been kicking around there now going on 3 yrs....his time is almost up to be a PR guy

Thanks, as well.... I know its mid Feb & the scouting group is doing their thing.. b/u QB needs to be upgraded over the course of the next few months in my opinion.. just asking the question about Watford for the immediate & got my answer. Seen him play as well,  but,, I'll leave it at that....

Certainly concerned about the back-up qb......We were talking about Streveler awhile back.....IF he ever gets cut loose down south we definitely have to look in that direction....Place kicking is also a big question mark....IF Mourtada doesn't work out I hope we have a helluva plan B...

Hoping with the silence on b/u QB, that truly its Streveler. But, I still believe the NFL desire and money keeps Streveler down there till prior to our training camp or cut down day in the NFL of this year...

We still have a full draft class to come in that likely nets us an OL and DL I would think. I've heard it's not a very deep draft but the top 20 are pretty darn good.

Changing here.... What's everyone take on David Watford? 28 years old, 6-2, 215 .... believe with running ability, used on short yardage..... Started a couple games for Hammy, has spent time with them and Sask....

    As it stands right now:

    Out:
    Adams         - OTT
    Alford           - NFL
    Antigha        - EDM
    Darby          - OTT
    Harris          - TOR
    Jones           - MTL
    Kongbo        - NFL
    Lawler         - EDM
    Richardson   - BC

That's a ton of talent and more losses to come.

    In:
    Ellingson

Add - Starter Desjarlais to NFL and reserve Nelson to Edm as well... There are some adequate replacements, but I do agree that's a ton of talent. Hopefully it all comes together by Oct/Nov of this year.

As per the 'Stones, "You don't always get what you want".  Walters had to make a difficult decision and handled it as well as it could be under the circumstances.

By my count, since this Free Agency has started, 11 of our guys have gone to the NFL or other CFL teams.... That is a lot and its only 3:45 on Tuesday, the first day of actual Free Agent Day...
