  1. And put my Willy a year behind for a playoff birth and early exit with KG. No thanks, good chance we make the playoffs this season and end up with a real #1 QB for years. I Didn't say anything about starting Glenn, just possessing him would be enough to keep B.C. out of the playoffs. You're very insecure about "your Willy", aren't you? You do realize that the Grey Cup is in Vancouver this year, right? Ever been to Vancouver? There's a lot of things I could there rather than go see a loser football team. No, it's good for the CFL that Glenn is there. Very good. The Bombers have been the dregs of the CFL for a few years now and they need to have a fewf "me first" seasons before they start making charitable football decisions that benefit the BC Lions.

  3. I suggest if the Bombers would have signed Glenn, they would have had an excellent shot at 3rd in the West and BC would end up in 5th looking up at them. Playoff revenue would have easily paid for Glenn's salary.
  4. I think Banks was a big deal when he was signed as he was a "name player" and Walters was just getting his feet wet as the permanent GM so he wanted to make a bold move. Unfortunately O'Shea probably doesn't give a crap about any of the "optics" and has found better and younger positional players to take his place so Banks is no longer needed. It's now up to Walters to save face and get what he can for Banks while trying to extend Banks career with another team. Hopefully he gets a fair shot with Ottawa. It's a tough call all around because they used Banks to create credibility for the new regime but ultimately Wally was probably right about Banks expiration date. Always trust in Wally.
  5. This is true, Willy has tremendous upside but for how many years do the Bombers actually have him under contract and what are his NFL ambitions? If Collaros had or has NFL ambitions and he generates interest I imagine Willy will have the same opportunities as he's a model of a classic NFL QB. Who's to say Willy will even be here after 2015 and how far can the Bombers ascend in 2 years??? With the new CBA I suppose 5 year contracts are a thing of the past?
  6. So great to see a real balanced attack again, seems like it's been years. Got to hand it to Marcel B. for a great game plan well executed.
  7. Hope they can keep all 3RB's. Cottons going to be a star so I don't think he's going to sit on the sidelines and injuries will be a part of the process so I think Ford will get a chance as well.
  8. Could be O'Shea really liked Bryant from their time together with the Argos. Who knows???
  9. It's such a small league, if all teams agree on a practice any "unwritten rules" should be quickly turned into "written rules". Avoids confusion and misunderstandings.
  10. Time for Walters to get earn his pay. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't explore a number of opportunities to improve the club.
  11. Not saying Glenn had to play in front of Willy in order to deprive BC of his services, backup would have be fine and that would have given the Bombers a much stronger QB tandem than they have now. Bombers had months to work a deal before the draft but were obviously not negotiating with Ottawa. In hind sight could have offered Watson or Pencer, Renaud and any number of replaceable starting imports they planned to cut anyway. No one can say what it would have taken to get Glenn out of Ottawa prior to the draft but the result could have been Joey Elliot taking snaps for the Lions yesterday in place of Kevin Glenn. So you would burn a draft pick, delay the development of our own young guys, potentially create a QB controversy all to spite BC? seems reasonable... So you would burn a draft pick, delay the development of our own young guys, potentially create a QB controversy all to spite BC? seems reasonable... No, never said that. I'd offer up the kitchen sink before a draft pick though. Bombers have around 30 new players this year so in the off-season they had plenty of expendable capital to work with. As it does not seem that Ottawa was getting any offers for Glenn's services I believe they would have accepted less if a deal would have been made well in advance of draft day. I don't believe Walters bothered to try and that's the rub. BTW Lions just beat Calgary handily with their backup QB....think about it.

Pretty safe to say the cost was a first round pick, what they asked for from the beginning and what the cost ended up being. Not sure why it is always assumed you can dump your cuts on someone else for a player or other considerations with value. It's always worth a try.

  14. This is rational strategic thinking. The Bombers would have improved their playoff chances dramatically if they would have "deprived" BC of Kevin Glenn's services. With Glenn as their "permanent" backup BC will cruise into the playoffs even if Lulay does not contribute this year. The Bombers will have to pray for weaker teams to fall but that at best is a long shot this year.
  15. As long as Willy can stay healthy the Bombers should be competitive. No one can predict the results of the alternate story line.
  16. Or..... they kept these players because they performed better....... Wait wait wait... Hold on... They can actually DO that?! Wonders will never cease... And ill say that while max did get into a lot of games last season and developed some experience (negative as it was..) Its not like willy and brohm are wide eyed, wet behind the ears cfl rookies.. Both Brohm and Marve are wide eyed, wet behind the ears CFL rookies. Neither has played a down.
  17. One thing to consider in all of this is the psychology of the decision making process and how a coach or scout's ego comes into play when choosing which players get cut. Ie. McManus supporting Brohm over Hall. If there is a competition between two players a coach is almost always going to go with "their guy" so that he is associated with the success that player achieves and is thus validated as a "wise judge of talent". For other coach's to override and choose Hall over Brohm would have reflected poorly on McManus's judgement and nobody has big enough balls to do that. Unfortunately for Max, Joe Mack's opinion was not sought. A good example of this is Marcel Bellefeuille sticking with Aaron Kelly. Just thankful he was willing to give up on Boltus eventually.
  18. Browning is "Mr. Nothing" from "Nothingville" and his assignment to the P.R. means "nothing". Odds are 1-100 anything comes of this.
  19. Not true. Hall went head to head with Nieswander last year in a game and came out on top in every category. If Max only won one game last year that was it.
  20. This is a good indication that some of the players the Bombers had in 2013 were not all that easy to replace. Not exactly a vet purge.
  21. Is this being covered live by anyone? Can't find anything yet.
  22. You've got to Wonder if Doug Brown would even have stood a chance of being a member of Etch's squad....very exclusive group.
  23. Consider the following scenario. 1. Hall gets cut 2. Willy gets seriously injured within the first 4 games 3. Brohm proves ineffectual in relief. 4. The Angst over not signing Kevin Glenn begins anew until Willy returns.
  24. I'm willing to bet that a team will pick up Messam shortly for the season and he makes a positive contribution on play as he's still a very good athlete. Don't know what kind of personality he has but two things to consider, giving him an opportunity and redemption. Don't like the notion of evaluating a players worth solely on paper as a lot of interesting things can happen when they get their hands on the dirty old pig skin. Denmark redeemed himself last season maybe it's Messam's turn this year. It's always a gamble but what are the odds?
