  1. Yeesh - sounds like Bobby is getting suicidal...if anyone sees him at IGF make sure and give him a hug... Never thought I'd see the day, Bob's actually giving "shout outs" to different groups tonight.
  2. I can't see the CFLPA getting behind this lawsuit if they have any sense of self preservation. They are a "me first" organization that has shown little concern for past or or future members. As this lawsuit could theoretically bankrupt the CFL they would be foolish to jeopardize the careers of their current members for the sake of a few "walking wounded". Could well be that Arland has already tried this route. It would be way cheaper for the CFL to squelch this before it gets a head of steam, settle out of court with Bruce and place a restrictive gag order on his settlement. Every under-employed ex-CFL player on Earth will be lining up to feed at the trough if they don't handle this quickly.
  3. Here is a clip of Mark Cohon on TSN basically standing firm on current CFL policy regarding player health and stating that adequate concussion procedures and deterrents are already in place. Zach Collaros may disagree. http://www.tsn.ca/VideoHub/Default.aspx?collection=109&show=400849&section=Sports
  4. Good points. In the "good old days" teams and trainers would have pushed players back onto the field or the ice with a sniff of smelling salts asap after having their "bell rung" but this was before they fully understood the repercussions of concussions in sport. If the athlete can prove that he was forced into action by the team before he was fully recuperated than he has a case. Athletes also play under economic pressure and the risk of losing their job to a replacement if they don't or can't perform and this is a huge factor in the CFL. It's not always the players fault he often has no other choice but to "suck it up" and get back out there. I think the scientific knowledge of the damage repeated blows to the head causes has been in existence for a long-time as there are references to the term "punch drunk" as far back as the 1930's to describe the condition of retired boxers. It was most likely the business end of sports that delayed tying the two views together for as long as possible. To this day I think the sport of boxing refuses to acknowledge this condition has anything to do with their sport.
  5. 1. Rye whisky 2. Rye whisky 3. Rye whisky 4. Rye whisky 5. A rope 6. Pamela Anderson Just a heads up, you won't score on Randel Island. That's why I need the rope.....and the whisky.

  7. That's utter nonsense. If it's not related to the case it can't even be presented the evidence they would be examining is medical not character related. Trying to paint the claimant as "unlikeable" or an "unworthy" human is called prejudicing the jury.
  8. This is the real danger, Arland Bruce by himself doesn't pose that much of a threat because the effects of concussion on him are probably not that apparent but if this does turn into a class action lawsuit, watch out. They won't need Arland to make their case if they have someone like Matt Dunigan on-board or any of the families of CFL players from the past who's lives ended tragically.
  9. Best bet: http://www.reddit.com/r/CFL/comments/2aybpv/game_thread_edmonton_eskimos_30_winnipeg_blue/ If quality is not good try one at this site. http://www.wiziwig.tv/competition.php?part=sports&discipline=americanfootball Takes awhile to figure out which links are decoys. Don't download anything.
  10. I remembering watching a documentary on The Fifth Estate years ago about a handful of Eskimo players from their dynasty years who met with untimely deaths after years of severe depression, Bill Stevenson the big D-Lineman was one of them featured. If this lawsuit gets rolling it could stretch way back. Can't find a video but this article discusses the show. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/dynasty-to-death-cbc-s-fifth-estate-examines-head-injuries-in-football-1.725631 I beleive there is a similar show on YouTube about Chris Benoit the Pro Wrestler who committed murder suicide under similar circumstances.
  11. You could see this lawsuit coming a mile away but don't worry the NFL represented by the world's top legal talent only had to pay out $765 million so for the CFL it's a frivolous matter. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000235494/article/nfl-explayers-agree-to-765m-settlement-in-concussions-suit Don't rule Buck out, if he has any brain cells left he may be jumping aboard this bandwagon lawsuit as their star witness. Quick burn the evidence!
  12. "Cause the CFL is failing to protect it's most valuable assets and young Zach just received a kick to the nutz in the vicinity of his brain.
  13. It really does open up a can of worms. I predict Hail Mary throws will become a regular occurrence this season, flood a small area with receivers and there is bound to be a P.I. call almost every time.
  14. Interesting thought. The actually fundamentals of form tackling are changing to chest plate tackling, safe contact which is going to take some time, some commitment/buy-in and some tweaking before it works itself up to the professional leagues. Getting back to the changes in rules concerning tackling I've seen the NHL implement some pretty drastic rule changes one season to the next and they usually use the "zebras" to carry out their dirty work. The players may b*tch and moan about the changes but within the first 10 games they get the hang of it. Difference is the NHL has 6 months & 84 games to rectify things. The CFL doesn't. I don't understand your point. Both leagues have off-seasons to make rule changes.
  15. Couldn't figure out where they're other DB's went to. Cox is a LB. Even that catch was a miracle coming straight over JFG's head like it did. Next time they try that play I hope they skew the angle of the throw at least 10-20 degrees to reduce the difficulty of the reception.
  16. That's not just any old bear.....that's the A&W Root Bear. The scene that really got me laughing was when Adam Bighill knocked the ball loose from Hugh Charles in the end-zone. Benny got so excited he ran down the sidelines for about 40 yards waving his arms frantically in the "incomplete pass signal" screaming "no, no, no!!!". Honest to God I thought he was actually going to attain lift-off. I think the CFL needs to add another category to their weekly awards for "best dramatic performance". After-all it's all entertainment.
  17. Doug Brown predicted in yesterdays FreeP that the P.I. review flag was going to become a great offencive weapon for moving the ball from mid-field to the goal-line in a jiffy. I have a feeling this will be the game were that idea takes fruition..
  18. I re-watched the Bomber's winning drive a couple of times and that was not a thing of beauty.. Penalties, dropped balls a couple of third down gambles and Drew Willy's best impression of Max Hall throwing a career ending interception into the endzone. Still scratching my head how they managed to pull off the win but in the end every win counts the same in the standings.

  20. Luckily the CFLPA is a pretty toothless organization but all they need is the help of some ravenous lawyers who can read crib notes from the NFL lawsuit to give it a go.
  21. Even funnier was Mike Benevides behaviour in Sask. He was going coo coo for cocoa puffs on the sidelines. Looked like Wally might have threatened to put out a hit on him if he didn't come up with a Lion victory real soon.
  22. Could be that O'Shea knew Portis from the Argos and liked what he saw...who knows.
  23. That makes no sense. The Bombers are not going to give away Brohm after coming this far with him. Within the next 4 games I hope there will be an opportunity to give Brohm some game action. It does a team no good not to give a backup playing time throughout the season to bring him along. Worst case scenario Ryan Dinwiddie making his first start in a G.C. game. Can't happen again!
  24. How many times has Marve been stopped? Other than once or twice at the goal line? I know he got stopped on the 30 yard line against Montreal but that was a bad decision to go for it in the first place. With the lack of push of the O-Line I don't think Refrigerator Perry would have gotten a first down on that play. But watching it you can see he hesitates or takes an extra step or something. There's something with him after he takes the snap that isn't right...lol I don't know what it is but I really hope come thursday they've found someone else to do the short yardage. I like him as a QB just not as a short yardage guy. The Bombers have a QB coach and this is Marve's only job. I think they can figure it out.
  25. OMG, serious?? So you have 3 starting calibre NI's in Watson, JFG and Kohlert. Not game changing players, but starter quality NI receivers. And you have an OL that has been deficient for a number of years. Watman shores up a guard position for you immediately, and could be our ticket to no Morley by year's end. Etienne is signed to backup the 2 NI starting receivers; and at least has some upside to him. How is that terrible? Apparently Morley is no longer the problem many on here imagined he was. So, get rid of Steve Morley who's playing well at centre for us & bring back Jade Etienne a failure at receiver. Great suggestions on this thread. If you're referring to my comment you misunderstood. To re-state Morley is no longer considered a problem. Bob Wylie says so.
