  1. This is not unusual for the Grey Cup to be late with this. Last year the announcement came a month out. And in 2015 the Bomber (crap show I guess?) announcement came only 26 days before the game, and I didn’t even hear it. Still a bad look.
  2. We’ve had our share of low crowds when things were on a downturn here. From 1997-1999 we had a ton of no-shows, and barely averaged 20,000 paid attendance a game even with half price or giveaway tickets to paper the house. Actual in-stadium numbers were lower. Had almost a dozen games under 20,000 with a low of 15,000 in 1999. We’ve even had low crowds with a competitive team. Hosted a playoff game in 2003 with only 22,000 in the stands, and the infamous 12,210 home playoff game in 1988 when the fans stayed away en masse because the team lost 3 straight going into the playoffs that year. Then they got hot and won the Grey Cup, and all kinds of fans twisted ankles jumping back on the bandwagon. They even made T-shirts saying “I was 1 of the 12,210” to honour the diehards who did show up at that game. They sold 50,000 of them. Even as recently as our current dynasty, we’ve had the odd low crowd in the new barn. Had only 20,900 show up for a late season game in 2019, had 3 games under 23,000 last year, and 23,500 this year for A Grey Cup re-match. Bottom line, we have a solid fan base and are riding likely the greatest run of success the league has seen in over 40 years, and we still see some empty seats, should we shouldn’t feel too superior. If we lost 17 in a row, I guarantee we’d see a lot of empty seats, based on the 1990’s precedent. Let’s just enjoy the ride for now.
  3. The first full 60 minute performance of the year
  4. Can’t rely on just homers to win games. Those strikeout totals against them were ridiculous.
  5. With only one game to go, there is no point in bringing in a different voice to put together a new game plan. One week early won’t send any stronger message than a firing the day after the season ends in Sask.
  6. You’re a fat loser and you have offensive body odour. Oh wait, you were talking about the team’s injury list? Sorry, was watching School of Rock.
  7. No job is worth your health. This guy was retired at the end of last year. He is a short-term fix. Maybe reach out to Trotz again, or let Arniel just run the club.
  8. Those bitter Yankee tears are delicious. Fundamentally flawed blueprint for a team.
  9. They used to play multi-game series in the playoffs to get to the Grey Cup, so I’m guessing they did not need to have a winner in every single game, just worried about the total points outcome.
  10. Next time Toronto takes a penalty, the Jets should decline it. Zone entry is awful, passes off most of the night.
  11. So Morrissey checks a guy playing the puck and gets a penalty and has to fight for hitting cleanly, Perfetti gets cross-checked in the back into the dasher board, and nothing. Maybe he should have faked an injury. I don’t blame refs often for losses, but that is garbage. Tired of teams looking to avenge hard, clean hits with a scrap. Would love to see an instigator and a game misconduct for that stuff.
  12. Damn, was getting ready to break out this meme: Congrats Goalie! The last two months was wildly entertaining.
  13. Not sure why we assume: (a) BC will be the team there and not Calgary (b) BC/Cal will have anymore difficulty in the cold than we will (remember which team struggled with turnovers in last year’s West Final?) (c) that playing half your games in a retractable dome in summer makes you weaker for the winter Bad weather is often a great equalizer for inferior teams. Given that our offence may well have to carry us to win this time out, give me the best weather possible for Zach and Co. And yeah I will be there, so heat please. I’ve sat through my share of -20 (not it has ever kept me away).
  14. Elks do indeed have the longest home losing streak ever at 17, breaking the old Ottawa Renegades record of 14. In other sports, the NFL record is also 14 (Chicago Cardinals), Pittsburgh Penguins lost 14 straight at home, MLB record is 20 by the St. Louis Browns, and the NBA record is 37 by the Sacramento Kings.
  15. The last time the Elks won at home: Trump still has a year left in his Presidency The Bombers are still on a 29 year Grey Cup drought, and Zach Collaros has not yet dressed for a game with them No one knows what a “COVID” is The Elks don’t even exist, the Eskimos still do
  16. Butler, Carey, Stanback, maybe Harris? Bombers run D has better polish up, because there are some horses on those other teams we could face. This may be the year our offence needs to carry us rather than our defence. Except from the sidelines while the other team’s offfence is grinding out the clock and wearing down the D.
  17. Agreed. But the idea that he is a slam dunk so we should not worry about him and potentially overspend on a Lawler as our first priority is a bit presumptuous, that’s all. Never take negotiations for granted.
