  1. And that was only compensatory damages. No word if punitive damages were awarded or if that is still to come. Maybe Fox and Newsmax are starting to sweat. Jones’ worth may be 20% of that, but the key is shutting him down forever, not the money. Maybe the families can now go after the NRA for damages too for facilitating this tragedy.
  2. Hopefully Brown gets at least a few starters to play with and isn’t all scrubs. Would like him to get some legit time with legit starters in a non-clock killing scenario. Rest is important and you never want to see an injury in a meaningless game, but with two byes the rest will be there to a good extent. Some things the players and team can still play for: - One win sets a new club record, and two ties Edmonton for the most wins ever - Oliviera is 81 yards away from 1,000 (would be the 10th Canadian rusher to ever hit that total) and is 30 yards behind the league leader (but with one more game played). If he tops the list, would be the 5th Canadian ever to lead the league in rushing -Collaros has already hit personal career highs in every passing category, is 103 yards behind Bethel-Thompson for the league lead (with one more game played) -Schoen has the league lead in reception yardage by 34 (with one more game played) than Rhymes, is 255 yards away from the all-time rookie record, is 20 receptions away from the rookie record. -Demski is 295 yards away from his first 1,000 yard season receiving.
  3. Week 19 update: this week’s playoff clinching scenarios (assuming no ties)- Winnipeg: Clinched 1st in the West. BC: Clinched a West playoff spot. No clinching scenarios this week. Need wins and Calgary losses totalling 3 to clinch 2nd. Calgary: Clinched a West playoff spot No clinching scenarios this week. Need wins and BC losses totalling 4 to clinch 2nd. Saskatchewan: Will finish 4th in the West. No clinching or elimination scenarios this week. Need two of these three scenarios to clinch a crossover playoff spot: wins and Montreal losses totalling 5, wins and Hamilton losses totalling 3, wins and Ottawa losses totalling 2. Edmonton: Will finish 5th in the West. Eliminated from playoff contention. There are no East crossover possibilities. Toronto: Clinched 2nd in the East and a home playoff game. Can clinch 1st in the East with a win and a Montreal loss. Montreal: Clinched 3rd in the East. Can clinch 2nd and a home playoff game with a win. Hamilton: Can finish no better than 2nd in the East. Can finish no better than 3rd with a loss OR a Montreal win. Ottawa: Can finish no better than 2nd in the East. Can finish no better than 3rd with a loss.
  4. If it was a different Province, I would be inclined to agree. But there are enough “the rest of Canada is against us” types in Alberta that they will buy in to the new Trump populism script. And they will be less likely to forgive her if she doesn’t speak out against the “woke progressive elites” than the moderates will be to dismiss her for these comments. The world has gotten to a state that outrageous comments garner a shrug far too often.
  5. For the second time, I am not arguing that he should be MOP. I think his stats are gaudy enough to beat out Demski (and his 12 games) for Outstanding Canadian. If Demski explodes in his last 2 to get over 1,000 yards and leads the league in TDs, then he probably takes it. No speculation on what his stats “might be” in a full year, no “what ifs” about regression (silly argument to make, changing the facts would make it a totally different argument), just based on what he has done compared to other Canadians this year, he is still the most proficient IMO.
  6. So you think that a half season is not enough of a sample size to justify an award, but one game is enough to disqualify him?
  7. Rourke’s numbers were so ridiculously high, and the Lions’ record so good with him, that he is deserving of MOC, even with only 9 games. Demski has had a great last 6 games, but he himself has only played 12, so not too much to separate their missed games yet, and Rourke’s numbers as they stand are still a bit better than Demski’s straight up, IMO.
  8. Who does and does not have to clear waivers has a lot to do with it.
  9. The majority here seem to not want them to make it. The only reasons I would want them to get to the Cup through the back door are: 1. It would make Grey Cup week in Regina a lot more alive for all the fans in attendance. Since I will be there, I’d want to enjoy that energy. 2. Beating them again at the Grey Cup would complete the cycle of Winnipeg winning another “first time” event at Mosaic over the Riders, and would completely avenge the 2007 loss to them and could erase that bad memory forever.
  10. I remember the Bombers doing it in the 1990 Grey Cup if memory serves, but it is rare. EDIT: Actually they did not upon checking. All 3 got into the game but only Burgess and McManus threw TDs.
  11. Bombers hosting back-to-back division finals for the first time since a trifecta 1992-94. Hosting back-to-back West Finals for the first time since their 5 year dynasty 1958-62.
  12. Who are these two fresh-faced newcomers you picked this week?
  13. That was his scout Ron Trentini, who the club said was acting independently and not at the club’s request. He was taking notes of the Tiger Cats open practice, which led to the whole “handled internally, non-issue, next question” presser with the media.
  14. I mostly agree with the mindset of “don’t coast”, but after 2001 Dave Ritchie swore he’d never again rest players and the very next year he loses MOP Milt Stegall to injury in the last meaningless game of the year. Given our injury woes this year, would hate to lose Collaros or Schoen or Demski or Jefferson or Alexander to an injury in a meaningless game, or a “hurt” player tweaks something and needs to sit out in a more important game. This team will be judged by our Grey Cup success, not on how we look in game 16 against Edmonton.
  15. Was arrested and charged. Judge agreed to drop the charges if he underwent anger management counselling, which he did.
  16. This game is completely irrelevant if the Lions win. A win by us won’t clinch first, and a loss won’t cost us. BC needs to sweep us to catch first. If they lose in Toronto, then we have a chance to clinch first against the Elks. Otherwise it all comes down to the head-to-head.
  17. Isn’t that the same thing? He was openly hostile when he was not considered for head coach after Cal Murphy was fired, and burned a lot of bridges on his way out of town through the media. Next remember him returning in 2002 during a pre-game show on CJOB and being asked if anyone like Stegall, Roberts, Sellers or other stars could make it in the NFL, and flat out said no, no way is anyone in the CFL good enough to make it in the NFL because the NFL players had the same speed as any CFLer but in a much larger body. Always thought he felt entitled to the head coach job here and that it should be anointed to him rather than earned. He remained openly hostile and had some famous run-ins with media (“non-issue, internally handled, next question”) and fans (“do I come to McDonalds and tell you how to cook fries?” and “living in mom’s basement”). For whatever talent he had (was the OC for both the club record single game passing and rushing performances), I never cared for his character and did not enjoy seeing him return. From this interview, sounds like the chip in his shoulder remains. Was he the guy who posted he was watching training camp for the stands at IG Field and kept trying to create the nickname “The Wave” for the stadium?
  18. And on that bobble the play should have been no yards. Had he fumbled it away I’m confident O’Shea would have challenged it (and won again). If there was a valid criticism, it was that he was giving too much room for a booming punt. On the first one he was 50 yards from the first down marker but it was 3rd and long, so he was over yards from punter. When the punt was muffed he had to run too far up and it then bounced by him. The punter did not really hit a clean one but Grant was consistently too far back worried one was going over his head, and having to run up to a lower wobbly punt caused him problems. That is correctable and Grant has shown enough past success that I trust he will address and fix that issue.
