Three-peat Kickoff Countdown
TrueBlue4ever replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sometimes, choice is easy. -
25 minutes of play and Hellebuyck being a brick wall was enough tonight to get two big points. Stats say Buffalo had more giveaways (8-6) but it sure didn’t look that way. But 2 points is 2 points at this time of year.

Svechnikov the only regular Jet who has not caught COVID this season (if you count Hellebuyck who caught it in August).

2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition
TrueBlue4ever replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I had heard something about that through the rumour mill, I think on the OurBombers comments (that Hogan was being escorted out, and his son was person #2 who intervened, or person #3 who got charged with the assault) but I did not have any confirmation from the story, so I did not want to speculate on what was not factually in front of me. That still stands, so although I concur that I have heard the same thing as you, it is not gospel so don’t take any credence in it from me. And weird that the fact of the 24 year old being the one charged doesn’t match the picture of what appears to be an older male (with the Hulkamania bandana) throwing a punch. -

Specific story in the paper was that fans were drunk in the student section, one on particular was so drunk (52 year old) police went to escort them out. Second fan jumped in to intervene, more police arrive. Third fan (24 year old) then jumps in and starts punching police officer in the head repeatedly. Drunk 52 year old tries to break free and he and police officer roll down the stairs in the struggle. Many fans then throw beer at the police as they walk the inebriated folks out of the stadium. 24 year old charged with assault P.O., 52 year old to the drunk tank but later released. You said he was overlooked, implying to me that he should have been picked for #76. I opted for Grant, thought he’d be the obvious choice. But feel free to post extra pictures of other players if you’d like. -

Oh I’m sorry. Did I disparage the character of this fine upstanding Bomber fan? How dare I! https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/fans-turn-on-officers-69638302.html I have my personal reasons for disliking and thinking less of fans I consider drunken hooligans. If you feel that you are owed a public explanation for “why I am the way I am” on this topic I can get into it on the board here. -

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess Trucker Convoy? -
What would be the 5 most unbreakable records in hockey? Or in sports overall? (BTW Beamon’s record was broken, but it was astonishing how long it lasted and how much it went beyond the previous record at the time) Off the top of my head:: 1. Gretzky’s 163 assists in 1985-86 (only Lemieux has had more points in a season 2. Glenn Hall’s 502 consecutive games as a goalie (double the next highest streak, with today’s load management no goalie will ever touch this one 3. Selanne’s 76 goals as a rookie (tough because you only get one shot at it and only 3 players have ever scored more goals than that in any one season) 4. Joe Malone’s 2.2 goals per game average (44 in 20 games, obviously a completely different game then) 5. Gretzky’s 3 consecutive 200 point seasons (you could probably pick any number of his records, no one else has ever cracked it once, good luck doing it 4 times in a row) Any other obvious ones I missed?

Defensive back Bud Grant. Heard he went on to coach somewhere or other. -
So, cheer Laine? Boo Laine? Does the team do a tribute video? And if they cheer, is it to spite Chevy?

I’ve heard the same shtick from you for forever now. It is laughable that you think dumping Maurice (and now Lowry), Scheifele and Wheeler and keeping everything else the same makes this team better, like they are the poison that is blocking the true path to the Stanley Cup. Heinola is not ready, Perfetti is not ready to be a first line NHLer, Samberg is not ready to be an elite #1 defence man. Why you think loading up on inexperience makes us a Stanley Cup contender instantly is baffling. Just because you don’t like Wheeler and Scheifele’s personalities doesn’t mean getting rid of them to satisfy your culture shift wet dream suddenly makes Heinola a Norris trophy winner. Scheifele is poor defensively based on the metrics used by the accountants writing for the Athletic, but he is paid to score first, and he has outperformed his contract every year here. I worry the suspension got in his head as it can with some players (the Todd Burtuzzi effect) so I am actually fine with trading him, but not just to be rid of him without fair value coming back. And Wheeler is going nowhere at 36 with an $8.5 million cap hit (which fortunately as still a point a game player he is still arguably earning and not a massive overpay). Like it, lump it, make your peace with it, because he is here until that contract expires. A buy out cripples this team for the next 3 seasons. And I could care less if he is snippy with the Jeff Hamilton’s of the media world who seem to have a pretty clear agenda to pick a fight with him at every turn and blame the leadership for a basic lack of equitable NHL talent in the bottom 6 and bottom 2-3 on defence. Honestly, none of this will change your mind, but it is getting exhausting hearing the same tired whine every game for the last 4 years now (and frankly before the 2017-18 year too. You’ve become the TBurg of the hockey forum, and when they win you clam up, waiting for the next loss so you can write the same 12 variations of “Wheeler is grumpy and needs to go, Scheifele is lazy and needs to go, Maurice is stupid and needs to go”. We all get your point by now, try some new material.

The fans who put it all on the coaching have overestimated the true talent on this roster. We have maybe two full NHL lines at forward and no elite 1-2 defence.

Remember too that the ratio in the 1980’s was higher, 11 starting Canadians required. The standard set up was an all-Canadian o-line, 2 slotbacks, fullback on offence, kicker, punter, and then safety and two interior d-linemen as Canadians. And the o-line and d-lines were so much smaller than they are today, the skill and size required were just a different level than now.
