Around the CFL Regular Season Discussion
Tracker replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
"Friends" is a relative term. If two people know each other, that doesn't automatically make them friends. And if it does, you'd be hard-pressed to find many working relationships in the CFL that didn't start that way, with someone hiring someone else that they are familiar with. O'Shea was a senior at Guelph when Walters came in as a rookie, and they were on opposite sides of the ball (Walters was an RB at the time). They played a grand total of one season together in Hamilton. Exactly. And when O'Shea was hired, he and Walters said after that the only times they got together was at football conferences. Someone on this forum posted earlier that O'Shea and Walters were roommates in college. Plus they are rumoured (by me) to have lived in a civil union for a couple of weeks. -
Gale's been in the CFL for 3 seasons and has 21 pass attempts. He was the short yardage QB in 2014 but otherwise has not had regular reps at QB. Marve alone has more on-field experience than Gale. In his three years, Gale has to have been in film sessions, watched games, and even run scout teams, so I stand by my statement about CFL experience.

Funny, Elemimian and Bighill have looked very ordinary this year. The premier teams seem to be Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton, and at the other end of the scale are the Riders. Everyone else is strung out between- mediocre on good days. -
Of all the possible pickups, Gale looks to be the best. He knows, or should know, the CFL and has more CFL experience than Brohm, Marve, And Dominic combined. Then again, he could be another promising bust.

Who gives us the best chance to win the LDC?
Tracker replied to Harbaugh's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
This is what we have come to, that we are reduced to hoping that the Riders suck even more than the Bombers. What makes it real scary is that if the Riders bumble their way to beating the Bombers on Sunday, they will gain enough confidence and the Bombers will be so deflated that the odds of winning the Banjo Bowl will favour the Riders. -
Bombers Release QB Russell & RB Thomas

Well, this ought to turn the season around. -
Could "let my people go" in our case mean that we need to can Bellefeuille, and Brohm, so that the plagues will stop?
-
That was meant for the longsuffering Bomber fans.
-
I suspect that the Bombers will have to chant " Morituri Te Salutant" upon taking the field to set the tone for the game.

As much as you seem to think otherwise MOS is going nowhere. Learn to accept thatWalter won't fire O'Shea.Save his ass he might. If I was a GM I'd never hire a friend to be a HC. That way if I have to fire the coach, I'm not destroying a friendship so there'd be no second guessing or regret. My conscience would be clear. How many times does it need to be said that Walters and O'Shea were NOT friends when O'Shea was hired. So they hated each other's guts then? Must have been an entertaining job interview. Walters: O'Shea, you suck. O'Shea: So do you, ya big jerk. Walters: God, I hate you. Wanna work here? O'Shea: Sure. These conflicted relationships are soooo hard to figure out. -
That was then, this is now. If you can't beat the worst, you have inherited the title and are the worst.

Don't forget that even with all the injuries and turmoil, the Riders have the best offence in the league, and Allen plus Messam might be the best one-two RBs in the CFL. The Bomber front seven have to stop the running game and pressure the Rider QB or we will be in for a long and sad afternoon.

More than one career may be decided this weekend.

I voted for Brian "Skipper" Brohm with absolutely no confidence at all. Brohm ought to be told that he will be given a ticket one-way to Regina, and if he stinks the place out, he will sacked immediately after the game (maybe at half-time) and will have to pay his own way back to wherever. -
If true, it may just mean that there's better job security under O'Shea if he likes you, even if you suck.

And Tedford survives to fight another day. -
Another odd happening at the Bomber camp.

As was posited, the game against Hamlton was a fluke due to players fearing for their jobs and playing over their heads. If the landslide continues, will Popp fire or demote himself? It would be only fair. -

If he doesn't, he'll be selling cell phone covers at St Vital Centre kiosk on Monday. Brohm is playing for his career at the LDC. Brohm's career is already decided. He would have to almost walk on water to be here much longer, or have every other QB in the fold comatose. -

I agree 100% about Tedford. Would have loved to see him here. Tedford has had success in coaching everywhere he has been and sure seems to be a student of the game. Should he be sacked and the rest of the season not improve significantly here, i ould be Ok seeing him here. He reminds me a lot of Trestman, and Higgins. -

And Beck is not setting the field on fire but so far he's managing the game well by keeping things simple with few mistakes. A good recipe for the Bombers on Sunday? -
If any single thing will doom O'Shea, it might just be his identifying with the players too much. Once you step up out of the ranks, a line is crossed and you have to make s decision where your duties and loyalties lie.

And we have an average QB now in Matt Nichols. I'm pretty excited for the second half of the season now, especially with the D and special teams starting to come around and look strong. I'm concerned it's not enough. We need that lineman that Edmonton got. Damnit! There is a CFL regulation that a team can have only one Simmons on its roster at a time.

Apparently the earlier report was in error.
