  1. I suspect that Thomas is being kept around as insurance if Cotton pulls a disappearing act in his performance. His size and resume remind of a former Bomber running back named Stephen Beaird out of Texas who was doing quite well until his dad took sick and Beaird had to go take care of the family buisness. And they were both caucasian.
  2. Tyler Thomas: A small college stand -out the 5’10’ 200 lb speedster, excels at every facet of the game. He not only runs and catches balls out of the backfield with skill and dexterity, he returns kicks and is a special teams stand out on punt coverage as well. If there is a hole to run through at the line Tyler was through it and on his way to the end zone. To further demonstrate his versatility Tyler, played some Defensive Back when needed. After competing in the NFL Regional Combine in Cleveland, Tyler was invited to the NFL Dallas Super Regional Combine, where he put up superior numbers, running a 4.39 40 yd dash in Cleveland. He has started to draw interest from NFL and CFL teams and will hit the try out circuit looking for his first pro contract this fall. Justin Cole is a 6'3" 240 lb player who suited up as a linebacker in the NFL, so maybe he is auditioning at MLB?
  3. Corus is still very profitable but layoffs are common these days right across the media industry.
  4. Well, that's one way to get Chamblin to "go".
  5. No way that Higgins would want to tick off Brandon just yet as you shouldn't cross a Bridge before you get to it.
  6. I wonder how long the Bombers are going to let the apparently brittle Mr.Moore hang around before they trade or release him? He's got to be earning too much to be a part-time player and we seem to have good replacements for a lot less.
  7. Willy has taken ownership of his team by gritting out the win on Thursday. He was doubtless playing with a creaky wheel and rose up to play what may have been his best overall game since arriving in River City. It wasn't just about firing the ball of dekeing handoffs but about leading by example and thus earning the respect of his team and fans alike. No future is certain, but Willy is probably going to be the best QB we've had in a decade.
  8. If Brohm is the best they can find and Marve is worse, I hope that many bushes are being beaten as we speak. The memories of last season are way too fresh.
  9. The Riders probably made the right decision to let Willy walk- who could have predicted Durant tearing his Achilles tendon by taking a short step? Moreover, Sunseri did show some promise last year in spite of flushing his career this season. From my point of view, and I am sure Walters is breathlessly awaiting it, in an ideal world, you want a #2 QB who is good enough to step in on a moment's notice and a young development project QB.
  10. If LaPolice chooses to join the circus in Regina, he deserves whatever he gets there. Unless Taman can pry Ray out of Toronto, with Glenn done for the year with a torn pectoral muscle, they will be lucky to win two games this year. No coach is going to change that. I remind people that Chick is an insulin-dependent diabetic with a subcutaneous insulin pump, and that has to catch up to him. And when it happens, it will probably come on quickly. He has done remarkably well well but his body is still stressed as an athlete.
  11. Interesting to compare Cato to our #2 quarterback- or Edmonton's for example.
  12. And Smith is no worse than Brohm at this point. He may never get any better but we already know what Brohm can do, and it ain't pretty.
  13. Hurl was better against the Lions but he continues to be a weak link. The reservations that many here had about him being promoted to MLB have proven out and if he is expected to call the defensive sets, that may be why the defense has been struggling on occasion.
  14. And you can bet his death was from heart failure.
  15. And the dam just broke. All downhill from here for the Riders.
  16. Riders look very very tentative. No confidence at all in evidence. Gonna be a ho-hum game unless you are rooting for the Esks.
  17. No potatoes, no perogies. End of discussion.
  18. Bouquets to: Drew Willy, Darvin Adams, Khalil Bass, Pat Neufeld, JFG, Veltung, Sam Hurl (sort of), Richie Hall, Marshall and all the fans who sat through the rain Bricks to: Dom Picard, Lirim Hajrullahu, and the refs who are doing their best to slow the game down
  19. BC has a mediocre (at best) O-line and about the same grade of D-line. On balance, we ought to be better on both sides of the line of scrimmage and if we can't beat them, its gonna be another long season. So, whichever side registers the most sacks ought to win, and there is no reason it shouldn't be the Bombers. I predict a see-saw first half with the game decided in the fourth quarter. If Willy gets racked up again, all bets are off.
  20. That's my point. "Better than Brink" did not equal "good QB", just like "Marve is better than Brohm" does not mean "Marve should be starting because he's so good". Many who want rid of Brohm think that Marve will come in and light it up, but like Elliot he could quite easily stink it up, and the coaches must believe that is the case based on not playing him and explaining how he is deficient in the areas they need him to be stronger in. Elliot's riskiness was not just riverboat gambler mentality, it was a fundamental inability to read the defence and exploit it. That was proven by the lack of success on any other team that took a chance on him afterwards. He was not a good QB, and "better than Brink" was such a low bar that people falsely elevated his ability to play because of it and pinned unrealistic expectations on him. I fear the same scenario with Marve now. My point is that Elliott hardly stunk it up, he moved the ball effectively but threw some ints in the red zone. Rather than working to correct that as a normal coach might do, he got the under the bus treatment cause the coach was pissed off as he often was and he liked to bury players who displeased him. Elliot had the tools but he was playing against a stacked deck. He was on a horribly inept team with dreadful coaching. He may have been trying to win games all by himself and forcing the ball because it was the only chance his team had. Yes, he likely ignored the coaches but I really can't fault him for that.
  21. Nostalgia just ain't what it used to be.
  22. Some misguided sailors posters on this ship board still think they can pull a fast one on me. Well, they're very much mistaken. Oooh, ooh a Caine Mutiny reference! Who's Captain Queeg? or Hardball?
  23. Wow. The Riders are just snakebit this year and thats all there is. They could be looking at 2 and 16 this year but the funny thing is that this might buy Chamblin mosre time. How can a team compete with their number one and two quarterbacks on the shelf? Oh yeah, we went through that not too long ago and there was no sympathy from other teams.
