Agree 100%. Reilly is gonna Reilly. Any other QB out there is taking a few more sacks.

At least guys weren't running free against our secondary, the DBs just need to make some plays. Edmonton receivers were making some tough catches over our guys.
Steveler showed he can keep us in games and give us a chance until Nichols is back. When was the last time we had a back up QB (not counting Nichols taking over for Willy) throw 3 TDs?

Some thoughts...Firstly no sense to jump to judgement of doom and gloom due to loss as well as there wouldn't have been a reverse jump to judgment if we won...you have to give it a game or two, and ones where you don't stop and go with delays 2 times.
Reilly will do what he did again to other teams as he has before to us and others..thats why he is League MVP.
The defense wasn't that bad...on the first long TD Randle had great coverage and actually got toe tangled when he went to make a play on ball and fell..you couldn't ask for better coverage and it was a great all around play...as well as the 2 point convert...Gaitor had great position and was a phenominal play and one 9 times out of 10 that receiver wouldn't have made...luck sometimes goes against you.
The defense will be good and when settled in...not an issue..Biggie although he Hurl'd it on one play made several plays that last years MLB could never dream of..and Reilly was his slimy greasy self and several of his escapes would have been sacks against anyone else.
Streveler played good all things considered...first game...new to CFL..conditions and delays and put us in a spot to win...he will get better so future there is looking good. He's smart and guaranteed he will not make same mistakes again...and really the pick Sherritt got was a horshoe up the butt play too...not so much a QB error...Wolitowski too if more sesoned would have came back for the ball a bit more to attack it as opposed to let it come to him.
Also I am not one of them "what if" type of guys but if Nichols was in there we win handily...he rips apart that secondary and the defense is off the field probably at least 5 mins less...if not more, as we would have controlled the game more and kept Reilly off the field...not to mention if Medlock didn't eff up that one FG the game is most likely tied or we possibly win...lots of positives and negatives to take out of the game.
Lets reserve judgement until after the next 2 games where I would be shocked we aren't sitting at 2-1

I like it, I feel like he has the higher ceiling. Could he implode? Possibly. But, Ross looks like Alex Brink 2.0. Take the chance and go with the guy who can potentially keep this offence afloat long-term.

Actually if Hardrick and Foketti can't go..and we have to dress 4 national O-lineman to start the game we conceivably don't have to start 2 national receivers and one of Tompkins/Flanders wouldn't have to even be a DI.
I truly hope we 46 Lankford to start the season and see what Demski/Augustine/Fogg do on kick-offs and utilize Tompkins or Washington (if ready to go) as the 4th American receiver. They offer you way more than Lankford as a receiver, and really...not having Lankford on roster as a return guy isn't going to be the reason we lose a game...but a big bodied stud receiver could be a reason you win a game

Maybe meeting with the respective PTB of each team so he could determine where he thinks the best fit is for him was a bigger part of his visits than seeing the facilities.

Defensive co-ordinator first and foremost...though if Hall would change his philosophy on defence, and utilize the tools in the tool box this wouldn't be an issue, but as it goes in  footbal co-ordinators/schemes/philosophies come and go and Hall's has sailed...teams are onto it now and he needs to re-invent much like Lapo did.
I'd dump cash at Steinauer and the Asst/HC title on him to pull him outta Fresno State...and as an incentive have a private convo with him/Miller and Walters that if the team goes one and done again in the play-offs they will have the onions and pull the pin on Oshea and hand over the reins to him.  The culture and environment is here and re-established now, so canning the HC won't negatively impact that now.
I think on offense we are a bigger receiver away who plays angry/mean to compliment what we have right now.  Hello Arcenaeux and or Mathews...do what you need to get it done...if that means sacrificing Medlock money so be it..it would be money better spent elsewhere truthfully as we shouldn't have to rely on a kicker to constantly get the wins...it just lends to the attitude and  comfort in not doing what it takes to have a lethal offence if you ask me.
You add a big bodied aforementioned receiver to Adams,  Harris, and yes I would resign Dressler to add to that mix as he would thrive in a system with a group like this and we should be fine with some of the existing complimentary pieces, or some new find or other free agent pick-up. Our line is sound and tho some free agent's are expected I hear that some are already a given to be back.
At worst we are going to have art the least Couture/Goose/Chung/Spooner/Foketti and I'll go out there and say Bryant and Hardrick as well....only wild card is Bond,  Also, i bet that if Gray gets dumped this off-season he will sign here to get some game film...so o-line wise we are very set...as well as QB (starter)
Our weakness is linebacker without a doubt and that is where we need to address things.  Santos-Knox appears to be a keeper and so is Moe injury aside, and we should be bringing him back, but if initially...or reality wise the nickle position is too much to come back to...he goes to safety and you test out Loffler in the position of Santos Knox and move him into the middle or use in sets with a more traditional 3-4 look.
If we can Land Muamba I would like to see a defense predicatec with 3 down lineman and a Mulumba/Corney playing a Tyrone Jones/james Parker role and lining up all over..on the line...in the linebacking corp...causing mismatches and confusion all over the place...A rotation up front with Jeffcoat/Johnson/Opo/Ekakite /Westerman (if he resigns) and maybe another new run stuffing stud can be the makings of an exciting and aggressive defense....also a productive one. We play/played too passive the past 3 years....time for change

The fact that Walker, Fogg, Flanders can all return kicks, and we keep Lankford on who save for one return and one reception gives us diddly just irritates the hell out of me.
We could use his spot for Poop Johnson preferably, or for Thorpe who over course of game gives us way more value on offence, and possibly the big play threat on returns.
Same with 4 defensive ends...3 is sufficient and a rotation of Westerman and  either Jeffcoat/ OPO  with Corney and  Nevis and Johnson taking majority of inside reps spelled off by Thomas  gives us a way better line-up.  These guys would all get enough reps and rest to be really into the game...we could use the Ekakitie spot on say a Conteh/banning or throw Drew W in there
Also  for what the value we get with the other import LB we DI , why not use that on a Thorpe, or a Poop,  or still allow us to roster Lankford if they feel he is so vital? Yeah sure people can clammer about how he the top returner...but that is yardage wise and mainly because we have returned more kicks than anyone...so a somewhat skewwed stat.
If anything I think roster management hinders us more than anything and how we allocate our ratio...

I see Gray getting cut..and not certain about PR spot either...he got pushed around a lot tonight..and back into the pocket frequently.. .also took a dumb penalty.  So not sure if they are going to invest in a couple years in him just to cut him in the end.
Mulumba too hasn't done much..4th on depth chart..2 tackles all preseason and not much that has stood out. Definitely won't be rostered with his minimum salary way more than a just as good or slightly better younger guy.
If he wants to play this year then I think this may be the late season addition finally.
A plus is he plays on punt return and punt coverage teams as well as I think kickoffs so he could step right into special team duties and rotate in on defence..allowing us to use a di on Thorpe or Flanders and not have to sit one of them

]We would lose nothing in the return game having Flanders/Thorpe/Fogg returning kicks, but we do lose a lot on offence, and what we have been doing lately scheme wise with Thorpe out and Lankford as the extra reciever.
Sure Dressler in effect replaces Thorpe roster/position wise, but he doesn't do what Thorpe does in our recent schemes, and Lankford isn't that reliable 2nd down conversion guy, or the guy that will get the tough yac yards which Thorpe is.  We can use Adams, Denmark and Dressler to stretch field vertically and probably better than Lankford because those 3 are the better route runners.
Looking like it is going to be Lankford over Thorpe, but I think that's the wrong decision...and who cares about the back-up kicker thing...we did fine without Lankford last year as that and there are sveral others on the roster who can in a pinch fill in if need be..

It makes Lankford less useful because we need guys who can produce first downs not one big play in half a season.  Very similar to the McDuffie situation last year that limited our offence except that McDuffie brought more value as a returner.  Our average start off kickoffs is below league average despite Lankford's personal average which tells you we are being kicked deep because he isn't viewed as a threat.
And Lankford has mostly played slot when he gets in on offence.  Watch the games.  The only receiver Nichols is off-target with is Lankford.  Given that accuracy is not an issue on the other 95% of his throws to the same spots on the field (talking 10-19 yard and 0-9 yard throws) that seems like a route issue to me, a receiver problem.
Thorpe is a weapon on offence.  Lankford has one plus attribute in straight line speed and is limited otherwise.  His kickoff returns don't outweigh that.
Offence is all about being multiple and having guys that are versatile in what they can do because if it's not there defending is very easy.
