The old stadium without a doubt was a better location then the current one. 1. More centrally located - Polo Park area is closer to downtown than U of M 2. More vehicular routes to and from the immediate area surrounding the stadium - Canad Inns had Portage, route 90, Empress, St. James, Ellice, St. Matthews, Sargent, Ness, Silver while the new location has Pembina and that's it. 3. Parking options and distance to walk to stadium - Canad Inns had 1,000 spots right on the stadium sight (0 minute walk to stadium), over 5,000 at Polo Park (2 - 5 minute walk to stadium, tonnes of cheap parking lots along St. Matthews, St. James and route 90 with thousands of spots available (5 minute walk), lots of free street parking in St. James and the West End (7 - 10 minute walk) vs. 5,000 spots at U of M but most not right beside the stadium (1 - 10 minute walk), no street parking in adjoining neighborhoods as there is a ban, paid parking in various lots on along Chancellor Mathesson (MPI) and Pembina 20 -25 minute walk, and free parking in Waverley Heights and across the river (30 or minutes) 4. Restaurant options - not even close...there are several restaurants within a 5 - 7 minute walk of Canad Inns. Hooters, Moxies, Movado's Perkins, Boston Pizza, Montana's, Tony Roma's, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Earls, A&W, Wendy's, McDonalds, Tim Hortons plus a few others. At Investors Group Field is there anything within a 5-minute walk? Nope. How about a 10-minute walk? Nope. How about a 15- minute walk? Maybe, if you are a fast walker. 20 minute walk? Ok, finally at that point you have a few options like Five Guys, Sushi Jet, Tim Hortons, Kazoku, Wild Wings and Santa Lucia. Nowhere near the selection of the old site and over twice the distance. I think these factors plus the perception of the hassle it is getting to stadium - even though this has been somewhat mitigated since the first season shitshow - and the increased cost to attend the game, has effected attendance. Walk-up attendance has really been effected imo. At the old site, I think the team could sell between 1,000-2,000 tickets the day before and day of the game if the team was doing well and the weather appeared to be good. That is no longer the case at the new stadium.

Here I was expecting a tightly contested affair with the Bombers squeaking out a victory by 3-4 points..something like 20-17. Strev does indeed appear to be the real deal. Nothing but sheer domination by the Bombers on both sides of the ball from beginning to end.

I wonder if that was more Willy not having the confidence or ability to throw it downfield 20 - 30 yards in the final minute as opposed to Khari instructing him the short passes were the only option.

This is what happens when the organization hires a proven failure like Joe Mack as the assistant GM. As we saw for 4 years in Winnipeg, he was mostly terrible at recruiting fresh new talent from the US.

So you expect 35 runs then? There are about 55 offensive plays in a CFL game by each team not including punts/kickoffs. That's not realistic...having over 60% of your plays designed as runs. 30 passes is more realistic.

Fourth is realistic for the Bombers given Nichols injury and lack of a proven backup. Streveler might be the second coming of Justin Goltz, Max Hall, Alex Brink, etc. for all we know. It won't matter how good the rest of the team is around him if he unable to put together some drives and TDs. Qb is the most important position and in a league in which the pass makes up 70% of the plays Streveler will probably struggle in his first few (maybe all?) outings. Plus it just might be possible that the timeline for Nichols return in 4-6 weeks just might be a best case scenario presented by Bomber management. Maybe in a few weeks we hear Nichols is not progressing as they have hoped and he is actually out of the lineup until Labour Day or later. We have seen this happen before...overly optimistic injury estimates. Possible good news with the fourth place finish is that it should be adequate for the crossover to the east.

Should be a few choices out there that would do better than any of our current projected backups who have zero experience in the CFL. Potential won't mean much in 2018 for these individuals. You play the long game with them. An experienced backup with some starts and relief appearances in the CFL will almost surely perform better short term then a rookie with zero experience.

Sigh. Kevin Glenn would look great as a Bomber backup right about now. Better Qb of the two and by all appearances, an honorable person.

With today's surprise retirement by Durant, it reaffirms my belief that the team is worse than last year. Lost Westerman, lost Bond, no quality vet backup, no new promising middle linebackers brought in to compete for the spot, loss of Heath. Our top end Canadian depth has declined for two consecutive years by the looks of things...unless some of the young players like Corney, Couture, Spooner and Ekakatie take a monumental leap forward. Players like this will have to improve to compensate for the decline of older players like Dressler, Harris, Leggett? (Depends on how he bounces back from injury).

But a likely upgrade nonetheless. To play devil's advocate (as I think Rick Ralph is doing on the radio), players probably get screwed out of their bonuses far more often when they are cut by their respective teams just prior to the deadline at which point those bonuses are due. As for Durant not showing his face up north again...I doubt that. I'm sure in the next year or two, he will have be back in Regina for some kind of appreciation night during a game.

I don't think that was the general feeling in Bomberland prior to his retirement. Most looked at him as an upgrade to Lefevour and Davis, including myself.

I hope so. Not sure who is out there with previous experience the Bombers could sign. Cato..no obviously given the disruption he appears to have caused in the past and not just in the CFL. Crompton? Not a very good quarterback...erratic, but might be a stopgap. Tate? Bit of a headcase and he always seemed to get injured whenever he is inserted into the lineup. I hope one of our inexperienced backups can actually step in this season and resemble something like a respectable backup QB.

What a loser Durant is for not telling the team directly. I was listening to 1290 and they were saying the Bombers will not be able to recoup the $70k. Durant partially recouped the bonus money he lost out on from the Montreal Alouettes when they cut him this past winter. Maybe that was his sole motivation for signing with the Bombers - recoup some of those losses? Bombers are now in a pickle. Other than Calgary, we have the worst quarterback depth in the league. If Nichols is injured for a lengthy amount of time the Bombers are screwed.

So Bowman's rejection of a higher salary with the Riders confirms what many of us have suspected - there is a premium that needs to be paid by any pro Saskatchewan teams to convince players to sign there. Guess it makes sense, lower standard of living and all that...

Back in 2006 Allen was voted the 14th greatest player in CFL history. The top-50 list was voted on by former players. Seems they thought he was a very good player.

Davis' performance reminded me of Alex Brink's first start 6 or so years ago. Deer in headlights...just a disaster. If need be, bring him back for training camp I guess. It would be nice if the bombers brought in some legit competition for a developmental Qb who can actually develop into a starter for a change.

If Neufeld starts they will be lucky to get two-thirds of the season out of him. Hopefully there are better options to start at guard if Bond is not re-signed.

Probably not unusual for any team in the CFL to have 20% of their cap assigned to three or four players. I think Bowman is renegotiated or failing that, released.

As I said he has had success in some playoff games. Not all, some. Many claim he never plays well when it matters. Last I checked ALL playoff games matter. Glenn played better than Durant last year, no ifs or buts about it. And that was behind a suspect O-line in Saskatchewan. I would be OK with Durant as a backup option, but Glenn at this point looks to be the superior of the two.

If Edmonton gets Glenn they will have picked up the best backup plain and simple. durant would be OK and an improvement over Lefevour but he was not as good as Glenn last year. As for the comments that Glenn doesn't win games when it matters, that is true but not all of the time. He won last year's Eastern Semi-Final did he not? I am pretty sure all playoff games matter. Give Glenn a decent running game thereby keeping his pass attempts in the 35 range and he can win games.
