I was only there a short while.
Nick Moore running the right direction following catches today.
Toney Clemons and Shaq Richardson beaking grill-to-grill and uttering bad words after Richardson earholes Clemons with an elbow after the play.
Portis taking reps ahead of Marve.
Hurl def in the starting rotation at MLB.
Randle picks Willy on a nice int. Just really like Randle and Greg Peach.
Willard Reaves watching his son #72. Didn't Leo Ezerins wear #72 for Winnipeg?
#14 Malachi Freeman getting a fair number of reps at DB and CB and looking OK in the short time he's had to digest things.
Carlos Anderson definitely hurt something on a return - limped off the field.
Unamba looking solid. Can't help but notice Z Anderson and Thaddeus Gibson out there.
Bryant Greaves Picard Chungh Daniels look to be starters on the O line.
Cotton, Gordon and Veltung on returns after Anderson went down - Stoudermire still has his hand heavily taped and he was just watching, obviously.

CFL refs are back here at practice today.
    Neufeld, Dile still no helmets.
Practicing special teams and onside kicks right now.
Moore and Kohlert back practicing today.
Addison Richards practicing for second straight day.
Chungh practicing snaps to the QB. Maybe as an emergency centre??
Robert Marve just made fun of Graig Newman for going to the bathroom in the middle of team drills.
First time I've seen Kyle Walters here watching practice. Him and Wade chatting on the sidelines.

Willy with a nice strike to Denmark. Cotton and Anderson taking turns with first team offence. Reaves also getting reps with first team.
Peach just burned Stanley Bryant...would have been a sack.
    Brohm looking good today.
Willy with a perfect 30 yard sideline pass to Clemons. Willy looking very sharp today.

Statistical look at the individual drives as led by the 3 backup QBs (Numbers don't include Portis' last "drive", which was essentially killing the clock):

    W24 -- Punt from W48 -- 24 yds
    T32 -- 20 yd FG -- 19 yds
    W43 -- 44 yd FG -- 30 yds
    55 -- 43 yd Missed FG -- 20 yds

    Average drive - 23.25 yards
Average starting point - Winnipeg 50

Why so much extrapolation of incredibly small bodies of work? Do we really think decisions should be based off of 10 snaps?

It's never as simple as "Marve scored a TD, Portis didn't" and while I prefer Marve easily over Portis, there's an entire further depth of reasoning as to why.

Yes, Marve is exciting. No, that's really not all that important.
Yes, he has shown to be capable of making something out of nothing. Unfortunately, he has not proven himself capable of taking something given to him. He hasn't shown the ability to make throws at a high level of consistency from the pocket. But he seems like he is aware of it and is going to take steps to head in the right direction with that aspect of his game.
Yes, he has put points on the board in awkward situations. No, that's not going to continue once teams start to gather film on him and are able to prepare for what he brings to the table. Not until his work from inside the pocket improves.

Fact is we're looking at it and trying to argue 4 of 9 vs 6 of 8 and that's not what the debate is at all. What was their process? How was their footwork? Regardless of an incompletion or a completion, was it the right throw to make? A nice throw? Did they read the coverage properly? Are you confident that they make the best play at a higher frequency than their competition? It's not as simple as "two touchdowns is better than two field goals" - granted it is, but how was each scenario achieved? What happens if an Argo safety blew a coverage on one of Marve's plays and Brohm had drives stall because of missed assignments by his receivers? It's never just about evaluating the results in training camp - the coaches are going to evaluate the process.

I'm confidently of the mind that Marve stays over Portis, but I'm not sold on him over Brohm yet because the simple fact is he's likely not able to be as good of a fit within our offensive scheme until he shows more progress in the pocket. He needs to be able to produce without being on the run so that he can be MORE productive going forward when he IS on the run. Otherwise, he'll quickly become an easily defended one trick pony.

Doublezero got a reaction from Tracker in Who gets the axe by Monday?
In the game he started, before being injured, I thought Brohm was "better" than Willy at directing Winnipeg's offence, though I use that term loosely. He brought a tempo and urgency to the huddle break and set that Willy lacked all season long. He managed the clock better too. Mind you, Willy was pretty shellshocked by that point in the season and I am in no way saying Brohm is a "better" QB. Better/worse it's a bit misleading as all our QB have different strengths. Brohm also didn't waste time between plays and got rid of the ball quicker than Willy, seemingly made quicker reads. I expect that has been corrected and that there will be a lot more urgency in Willy's game this year. Interesting that Brohm was running the hurry-up in the Toronto game. We're going to see a lot more hurry-up from Willy this year, I predict. Quicker tempo and hurry-up - maybe even on most possessions.

Just for the sake of discussion... here's a list of the players not in Toronto tonight (and my thoughts on why)

    1. Stoudamire (injured... brilliant insight, I know)
    3. Newman (thought he should be playing, maybe he's impressed enough to get the first one off)
    7. Washington (lock, or at least gets the vet benefit of getting a free pass on first cuts)
    8. Randle (lock to start)
    10. Hurl (would've like to see him play, maybe also gets the vet pass)
    17. Moore (lock to start)
    18. Yantz (might be in trouble, thought this would be a good game for him to play in
    25. Johnson (definitely not a lock, I'll go with vet free pass)
    31. Leggett (lock to start)
    33. West (bit of a mystery he hasn't been at camp at all)
    38. Lattanzio (not sure why he's not playing, possibly injury related)
    39. Pontbriand (probably still a lock to start at FB and on teams)
    44. Anderson (lock to make the 46)
    46. Rempel (lock to start at LS, guessing Fitz and Cronk will LS in this game)
    47. Bass (bit of a surprise, maybe injury related?)
    50. Warden (not sure what the deal is with him)
    51. Dile (injury)
    53. Neufeld (injury)
    55. Westerman (lock to start, or at least be on the 46)
    66. Bryant (lock to start)
    68. Picard (lock to start)
    70. Hijrullahu (lock to start)
    83. JFG (lock to make the 46)
    86. Richards (injury)
    87. Kohlert (lock to make the 46)
    89. Denmark (lock to start)
    90. Peach (should be a lock on the 46)
    92. Turner (lock to start)
    95. Thomas (should be on the 46, would have like to see him in this game)
    98. Collins (not sure how he got a pass, has he impressed that much in camp?)

Sorry if I made any mistakes... feel free to weigh in...
