I couldn't watch the game due to business commitments at a festival.  I actually managed to get through the day without hearing  the score. I had to yell at the guy close to us because he wanted to update me at half-time. Lol.  What a beat down. There is nothing better ( other than a Cup) than an ass whooping on the Riders.

It's a lot easier to ***** about the reffing and nonexistent Bomber O-line and D-line dirty play than admit that the Rider organization need to be cleaned out and the rooms fumigated. In this forum we have a few management apologists, but the Rider fan forum has a lot of people there completely divorced from reality.

We'd be better governed if every politician had actually worked and depended on a regular job for a living. Especially a minimum wage job.

Discussions on US politics aren't simple.  Neither " Democrats are just as  bad " or " It's all because of the Republicans " are correct  (or wrong for that matter) . Regardless Chomsky dives into it. We don't have many years left of this icon.

    Voting 101
The who, what, where, when and how of casting a ballot in Manitoba's provincial electionBy: Free Press staffPosted: 3:45 PM CDT Tuesday, Sep. 5, 2023
Manitoba’s 43rd general election will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023.
Manitoba has 57 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), one to represent the people in each of 57 geographic areas of the province. Voters choose which candidate will become their area’s MLA.
Manitobans do not vote directly to determine who becomes premier. Before an election, each political party chooses a leader. The leader of the political party that has the most candidates elected becomes premier.
    Who can vote?
To be eligible to vote, you must:
Be a Canadian citizen; Be at least 18 years old on Oct. 3; and Have lived in Manitoba since at least April 3, 2023. Voter registration
Voting is faster and easier if you are registered before the election.  (But you can still register on election day; more on that below.)
If you are already a registered voter, you will receive a card in the mail telling you when and where to vote on election day and in advance voting.
Elections Manitoba regularly receives information from Elections Canada, Manitoba Public Insurance, Manitoba Health and Vital Stats, so it can keep the list up to date when people turn 18, become Canadian citizens, etc. — so even if you have not formally registered at your current address, you might already be on the list.
The cards are mailed starting Sept. 5. You can check to see if you’re already registered on the Elections Manitoba website. Enter your name, birth date and address, and Elections Manitoba will see if you’re on the list.

    I’m not registered!
If you’re not on the list or if the registration information is incorrect — for example, you moved or changed your name — you can register or update your information until Sept. 14. You’ll need to scan and upload pictures of your identification; here’s what types of ID can be used.
If you can’t scan your identification, you can still register to vote at your local election office. To find out where that is, put your address in this form on Elections Manitoba’s website. It will show information about who your candidates are, polling locations and the “local election office.”  Call or email the local election office for information about how to register.
If you register or update your registration before Sept. 14, a voter card will be mailed to you on Sept. 14. Take the card and identification with you when you go to vote. (More on that below.)
    When do I vote?
During advance polling: Saturday, Sept. 23 to Saturday, Sept. 30, you can vote at any advance poll in the province.
Advance polls are generally open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, though some exceptions apply.
On election day: Vote on Tuesday, Oct. 3, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., at any polling place in your electoral division.
You can enter your address on Election Manitoba’s website to find advance polls close to you, and your polling place for election day.
    How do I vote?
Go to a polling place. You can enter your address on Election Manitoba’s website to find advance polls close to you, and your polling place for election day.
Take identification; here’s what types of ID can be used. Show your identification and your voters card, if you brought one, to election officials.  They’ll give you a ballot in a “secrecy sleeve.”
Take your ballot behind the screen and fill in the name of the candidate of your choice.  If you need assistance, an election official can help you or you can take someone with you to help.
Put your ballot back in the “secrecy sleeve” and give it to the election official at the ballot box. He or she will put your ballot in the box or vote-counting machine.

If you don’t have identification but you are on the voters list: You can still vote on election day (but not in an advance polls). A registered voter in your electoral division who has acceptable ID can vouch for you. The person signs an oath affirming your identity.
Vouching is acceptable only if you are on the voter’s list, and a voter can only vouch for one other voter.
If you’re not on the voters list but you have acceptable ID: You can still vote. You’ll take an oath confirming your identity. If none of your ID shows your address, you’ll also have to sign a declaration of address.
I’m not in Manitoba to vote!
Are you a snowbird? Canadian Armed Forces member? Temporarily studying or working far from home?
If you expect to be outside Manitoba Sept. 23 to 30 and on Oct. 3 — or if you’ll be in Manitoba but far away from advance or regular polling places — you can vote with an absentee ballot.
Apply on Election Manitoba’s website or at your local election office. You can also fill out this form and mail it.
Absentee ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2023.
Elections Manitoba suggests you apply before Sept. 22, otherwise you might not receive the ballot in time to return it. If you apply after Sept. 22, you might need to pay for faster delivery service for your ballot to arrive by Oct. 3.
Local election offices cannot accept applications for absentee ballots after Sept. 30.

Huckabee slammed for 'calling for civil war' and saying elections may be decided by 'bullets' if Trump loses

-David BadashandThe New Civil Rights MovementSeptember 06, 2023
Former Arkansas Republican governor Mike Huckabee on Wednesday appeared to issue a threat of violence, according to some critics, if legal issues prevent Donald Trump from winning the 2024 presidential election.
Huckabee, a political commentator, ordained Baptist minister, twice-failed Republican presidential candidate, anti-LGBTQ activist, and the father of current Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said on his Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) show Wednesday that future elections will be decided by “bullets” not “ballots” if Trump – who is facing 91 criminal felony charges in four indictments across three jurisdictions – does not win back the White House due to legal entanglements.
“Do you know how political opponents to those in power are dealt with in third world dictatorships, banana republics, and communist regimes?” Huckabee, a far-right wing religious extremist, asked his audience. “Well, it’s simple. The people in power use their police agencies to arrest their opponents for made up crimes in an attempt to discredit them, bankrupt them, imprison them, exile them, or all of the above.”
“And if you’re not paying attention,” Huckabee continued, “you may not realize that Joe Biden is using exactly those tactics to make sure that Donald Trump is not his opponent in 2024. Here’s the problem: if these tactics end up working to keep Trump from winning, or even running in 2024, it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets.”
    Critics blasted Huckabee.
“Personally, I think my governor should denounce these remarks made by her father, a former governor of the same state, in defense of her former boss’s attempt to overthrow American democracy,” said columnist Alan Elrod, co-founder, president, and CEO of The Pulaski Institution.
“Republicans politicians continue to push the narrative that if they lose, violence is the only option. When will the media start making a bigger deal about this?” observed marketing executive Tim Fullerton.

Well-known anti-gun activist Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime was murdered during the Parkland school mass shooting, slammed Huckabee as “a domestic terrorist who has gotten away with using religion for too many years while pushing hate and violence. His most recent comments should be taken seriously and result in his arrest.”
“Mike Huckabee is the worst of us,” declared author John Pavlovitz.

The majority of Cubans are OK with the current, admittedly authoritarian, regime. They live longer, have lower infant/maternal morbidity and mortality than Americans, few ghettos and violent crimes and can access medical care within 24 hours. When Castro came to power, the mafia was on the verge of establishing a dictatorship and drugs as well as underage prostitution were appearing openly on the streets of Havana. Castro was hugely popular, at least at first, but became hardened after the CIA tried several times to kill him and created the infamous Bay of Pigs invasion. The embargo by the US as punishment drove Castro into the arms of Russia. When Castro came to power, he nationalized many of the huge private and corporate estates and farms, so that alienated much of the rich, who left for Florida and have been simmering since. That said, the young people long to have the fantasy American lifestyle of what they think the youth of America have.

Thank you. I appreciate the insight. Yes, my Dad was certainly different. A heckuva nice guy who'd leave his family hanging with no money. Still dealing with things today, unfortunately. Man, I've climbed more than a few high mountains & deep valleys in my lifetime. Very painful dealing with anger issues. depression, little patience & lack of self confidence. Also trust. I've had issues all my school & then working life with authority figures. I just had a hard time trusting anyone who was my teacher or boss. I've been fired more than once for insubordination. I've tried to get help but it's so hard to find a psychologist to talk things out. I'd like to know why the way I am even at my age. Still trying to be a better person for my family. Anyway, back to the thread here.

    “WASHINGTON —
With more than a year to go before the 2024 election, a constellation of conservative organizations is preparing for a possible second White House term for Donald Trump, recruiting thousands of Americans to come to Washington on a mission to dismantle the federal government and replace it with a vision closer to his own.
Led by the long-established Heritage Foundation think tank and fueled by former Trump administration officials, the far-reaching effort is essentially a government-in-waiting for the former president’s return — or any candidate who aligns with their ideals and can defeat President Biden in 2024.
With a nearly 1,000-page “Project 2025” handbook and an “army” of Americans, the idea is to have the civic infrastructure in place on Day One to commandeer, reshape and do away with what Republicans deride as the “deep state” bureaucracy, in part by firing as many as 50,000 federal workers.“

Ultimately Depends I guess on the judiciary, the Secret service, the alphabet agencies, the police, the armed forces, whether Biden has rooted out the criminals. This explains why the tuberville hack is stopping military appointments.
Yeah it is right there for the taking.
I,appreciate Biden’s calm demeanour, but someone with anger and fire needs to become more visible.
to oppose the anger and fire spewing from everywhere on the right.   The Democrats need to speak up forcefully and together about the danger.
and the eco system, is truly collapsing. Everywhere.
    very grim times.

Won’t scare a lot of people
“Most Republicans in a January 2020 survey agreed that “the traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast that we may have to use force to save it.” More than 40% agreed that “a time will come when patriotic Americans have to take the law into their own hands.”

There are many reasons and causes that people become addicted or over consume alcohol. Indeed it is often to self medicate to hide or mute pain, hurt or other mental issues. Some people's brains are hard wired differently and experience a stronger rush of pleasure causing endorphins.  This can overwhelm the  brain and it will shut down the reception of those endorphins. This often causes people to respond by drinking even more.
Alcoholism or Alcohol Use Disorder  is vastly under diagnosed. It takes many different forms but one thing that is the same is the damage, hurt  and pain that it causes to those around them.  I'm very sorry that you had to go through  a childhood like that.  I wish you all the best in dealing with it.
