I read somewhere today (maybe earlier in this thread???) that the scientists seem to think 90% fully dosed is needed to combat Delta and subsequent variants....

I had posted that and the Guardian article it came from. They had said %90 to % 95 of the TOTAL population ,not the eligible. I don't know if that would ever be possible. What % of the population is under 5 or ineligible due to health issues.Never mind the nutbar group. I guess the way I look at it is the higher we get that vaccination % the better. The more careful we are (within reason ) the better. We also need to balance that with keeping the economy going and our social/ mental health. I keep going back to a quote I heard from a infectious disease DR who said " there is no safe , only safer ". Barring a miracle this could go on for years. Maybe with the  pill ( if its accepted by the anti crowd ) and booster shots we can beat it down to a less significant threat.

  2. Many young men spend the rest of their days in jail or are sent to death row because they brought a gun to a robbery  " just as a threat " and things went bad. They plead that they really didn't intend to use it. The prosecution will counter with " if you bring a gun, you intend to use it ". The differences here are simple. This kid is white. The people shot might have been the "dreaded " Antifa. Therefore everything is different.

Americans have conjured up this idea of what the American West was like in the 1800s.  They believe all the old movies despite the fact that it's totally Hollywood. It's a bizarre mentality that would let you think you should go to a riot with weapons. That you have a right to" stand your ground " That walking around in public with weapons is going to end well. That all of that would be a good thing. The fact that he will in all likelyhood get off is just another statement on the collapse of that nation.

We were abysmal for the first year or slightly less of the pandemic. Refusing mask mandates, criticizing doctors, making cuts to health care. Spending public money last summer to encourage large events and tourism (half a year before people would start getting vaccinated). We basically had a victory parade before each wave of the pandemic because "we are not like other jurisdictions" in the words of Pallister. We fought bringing in restrictions and then blamed people for not taking extra steps that were suggested, but not mandated by the province. People lost their lives and some their livelihoods because we kept hoping our province was immune to pandemic waves for some reason.

We've since allowed for more input from medical professionals and taken a more cautious route with more foresight. Taking the lead with vaccine requirements has been great. I think we have tried to walk the line between trying to make things as close to normal as possible for vaccinated people, which I think is the best way to go. The unvaccinated (by choice) should be bearing the brunt of restrictions. They've had their time flouting restrictions, now is their time to take responsibility.

We haven't been perfect, we've still flirted with removing mask mandates while fighting with medical professionals and the city of Winnipeg. PC MLAs have done a piss-poor job showing leadership by posting photos at gatherings without masks. Our health minister is a joke. Compared to ideal pandemic leadership we are still bad. Compared to conservative governments in the two provinces to the west of us - we look pretty decent recently.

I agree there were alot of issues to start. As far as ideal leadership, it hasn't existed in any provinces. I was upset with the  Trudeau government's bungling of procuring/ producing  of vaccines at the start. But I will swallow my utter dislike of him and say they have done well since. I'm  not a fan of our current provincial government but I will say the same for them. Not good to start but have done pretty well since.

Anybody else pissed that they've followed the rules because they're a relatively caring person or a member of the woke mob according to Aaron Rodgers and we face further restrictions due to idiots being selfish assholes? Oh and also pissed that the province is waiting too long to address issues again?

The current government has done a pretty good job. They have led the country with vaccine passports. They have had some of the toughest restrictions and have generally brought them in earlier than most other provinces. All our numbers verify this. And this is despite having the moronic Winkler/ Stanley crowd. This is a nasty, nasty virus that is not going away. It could go on for years. So they can't simply shut everything down permanently.  It's not ALL the fault of the unvaccinated. ( who I don't understand at all ) It's the fault of the virus. We may have won some battles against it but the war continues.
