  1. Here's a pretty good analysis on the Gretzky/Lemieux debate. http://hockeypyramid.blogspot.ca/2013/12/the-great-debate-gretzky-vs-lemieux.html
  2. Lawless is saying Lirim will probably still handle the punting but Castillo will do the place kicking.
  3. I didn't say size dictated skill, but it is an a great attribute to have. You don't think if all else is equal, having 4 inches & 50 lbs is an advantage? I think overall they are very close, Wayne with a slight advantage in skill that gets evened out when you factor in the size Lemieux had. He was physically able to do things Wayne couldn't. Mario only comes in around 2800 point if he maintains that 2.0 PPG. Just like Mario, Gretzky playing as long as he did hurt his average. The last 7 years of his career his PPG average was only 1.25.
  4. Given the fact that Lemieux was 6'4 235lbs vs Wayne's 6"0 185 lbs, he should have the stats advantage. If we set aside physical attributes and just look at pure skill, Wayne takes it (imo). I don't buy into the "if Mario had been healthy" argument because that is a part of sports. Bobby Orr had his career cut short due to injuries so did Eric Lindros... it happens. It's not what you could have done, it's what you did. People also talk about Gretzky having better players around him but if you look at it closer, they had comparable teammates. They both played with a bunch of future hall of famers (Wayne had 5 & Mario had 5 with 2 more still to come in Jagr & Mark Recchi) so that argument doesn't really fly.
  5. Just watched Black Mass the other day. Good movie but overall it just didn't quite hit the mark for me (or my wife who fell asleep half way through). It's worth watching just based on Johnny Depp's performance alone.
  6. 4Play has been vacant for a while (2012 according to the OP).
  7. I agree. If you're someone who thumbs their nose at police, now is a good time to do it with DA's and Crowns quick to drop charges at the mere whiff of police impropriety. In this video, absolutely the police reacted wrongly, striking her. They are supposed to be trained to get suspects to comply using pressure points and leverage holds, not striking them. But the woman WAS resisting arrest. "Help me help me"...good grief. I guess she was truly afraid she would be abducted off the street by the cops and whisked away to a dungeon prison somewhere. Every legal expert discussing these incidents says the same thing "If you think the cops are wrong, comply fully and fight the system later". But realistically, had this woman complied, she wouldnt have had a case to whine about the cops later. That's another issue for the police in this case... they testified (at least one officer did) that she wasn't struck during her arrest, so now she gets to sue for more damages. This was broad daylight with multiple witnesses around... it amazes me that the cop thought there wouldn't be some video of the incident out there in this day & age.
  8. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the additions International offensive lineman Cole Manhart and International defensive back CJ Roberts to the club’s practice roster. Roberts (6’0, 180, Colorado State-Pueblo, September 8, 1991 in Boynton Beach, Florida) played in 51 games and totaled 212 tackles (144 solo), 14 interceptions, 32 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in four seasons at Colorado State-Pueblo. Roberts also scored six career touchdowns on defense (five interception returns, one fumble return), and was a three-time all-conference selection (second-team 2012, first-team 2013-14). He was signed by the Arizona Cardinals following the 2015 NFL Draft, and was released at the conclusion of their 2015 training camp. Manhart (6’4, 300, Nebraska-Kearney, September 25, 1992 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado) was originally signed by the Philadelphia Eagles following the 2015 NFL Draft, participating in part of the offseason workouts for the Eagles. A three-year starter at left tackle and a team captain in college, Manhart earned AFCA All-America honors following his junior and senior seasons. Manhart was a three-time All-MIAA selection and a three-time Academic Honor Roll recipient. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in June. The club has also released International running back Joe Hill from the practice roster.
  9. It's very interesting how the payouts are being handled right before an election. The story I watched on the news last night said that dairy farmers will get a payout without having to prove they lost one cent. The farmer that was interviewed said while they might not grow as fast as previously anticipated, they don't expect to lose any market share yet will still get compensation. Compare that with fisherman affected by the EU trade deal last year, who don't get a dime until they can prove they actually lost something.
  10. I like Washington so I wouldn't trade him... but that's petty good value for the other two... Apparently our asking price for Walker was too steep.
  11. Jamarkus McFarland was on BC's PR as of 3 days ago & I can't find anything saying he was released so did we steal him from their PR (meaning he has to be on the roster this week?)
  12. Jamarkus McFarland - DL 6'2, 305, Oklahoma Desmond Lawrence - WR 5'10, 185, North Carolina A&T Jeff Scott - RB/KR 5'7, 167, Ole Miss Roy Philon - DL 6'3, 291, Louisville Leon Mackey - DL 6'5, 260, Texas Tech
  13. He signed an extension last season as well... 2013 was just when he signed the deal to become one of the highest paid players in the league. But even if his deal ends after this season... is that better or worse? If he's a free agent, then the Bombers give up Denny (who's under contract through 2016) for potentially nothing. If he's under contract, the they have to try to renegotiate with Owens who doesn't have to agree to anything.
  14. When Owens re-signed in 2013, his deal made him one of if not the highest non-QB's in the league (he was coming off his MOP season). He would have to agree to a restructuring so you actually think he would be willing to come here for less guaranteed money? Considering he lives in the GTA year round now and given how our on-field product is constantly the sh*ts, what incentive is there for him to agree to that?
  15. I think the 3 year commitments people agreed to in exchange for discounted Grey Cup tickets will help limit how many season ticket holders they lose.
  16. I guess I missed the referendum because I never got to cast my vote.
  17. People have been saying that for years though. I distinctly remember hearing that during Tie Domi's playing days. Yes, enforcer's have had their roles greatly reduced and the ones that haven't been able to round out their game (McGrattan for example) to a somewhat acceptable level won't last, but they will never completely go away.
  18. Barenaked Ladies, they could do the Big Bang theory theme song since they don't have any other recent hits.
  19. It was a fantastic hit, but what does that have to do with Gadzic as an enforcer? If Buff had dropped the gloves with him and cleaned his clock, then sure but that's not what happened.
  20. Yes, 2013 in Saskatchewan No, Black Eyed Peas & Lenny Kravitz have done the Grey Cup show.
  21. Hedley was the half time show 2 years ago so I doubt they'd be brought in again (especially so soon) since nobody has ever done it twice before. The Sheepdogs are playing the Friday night for the Grey Cup festival, along with the Trews so I'd say both those bands are out.
  22. It's interesting that this article has Eadie questioning it. The one I read this morning had Scott Gillingham (St.James/Brooklands) asking the same questions.
  23. America has a problem that contributes to several other problems and that's the nature of their politics make their politicians gutless. The gun lobby are a bunch of morons hiding like cowards behind the constitution but they have enough puppets on congress to ensure no real gun control ever gets passed. The sad thing is, these mass shootings happen to the innocent. Just let one mass shooting happen at an NRA meeting. Oh but it would never happen because the tough NRA crowd would shoot back. Sure they would. Uh huh. Seeing people fawning over Obama's outrage is hilarious. Dont tell us you're angry. Again. Do something. What can Obama do though? Like you said, the gun lobby has enough people to ensure nothing happens. Until those people are out, nothing (regardless of who's in the White House) much can be done.
  24. Can we bring back the Green Drop guy too? Always used to enjoy watching Buzz & Boomer kick the crap outta that guy!
  25. John Scott is over-rated. He's huge and uses that to his advantage very well but he's not a great fighter. At the end of the 2013-14 season, he got tuned by a rookie in his 1st (regular season) fight. https://youtu.be/ao8qZ3huAdk The overall best fighter is hard to gauge these days since the enforcers either don't play much or get the chance to go against each other. Deryk Engelland dominated most of his fights in 2014-15 and Brian McGrattan was the man in 2013-14 but barely played last year. Peluso is definitely top 5 (imo) though. Scott wins almost all of his fights, most of them decisively. He doesn't have to be a great technical fighter when he's that big. Nobody wins every fight though. He got the best of Engelland a couple seasons ago. I don't like him though, as he's the worst of what fighting is in hockey. He can't play and acts lke a bully, going after non-fighters. I was a big fan of Engelland when he was a Pen. Koed Orr as a rookie. Scott does win decisively most of the time, I will give him that but the quality of the fights isn't there. Check him out on www.hockeyfights.com and look at how low his fight ratings are and who they are against. He only fought 3 times in the regular season last year with 2 being in one game against the same guy (Tim Jackman - who didn't even receive a fighting penalty the 2nd time). If he actually fought another fighter like he used to 4-5 years ago, I think I'd rate him higher. Luke Gadzic & Ryan Reaves are another couple guys I'd put in the top 5.
