  1. Bucknor got exposed a bit last week and I suspect the Als may try to pick on him again .. This will also be the first significant test of our offensive line .. if protection holds up, and they can keep Bowman and company from getting to Willy, we have a pretty good shot here .. key is going to be eliminating mistakes and penalties .. if they can do that .. we win. If not, I suspect the Als might steal this one from a beat up Bomber squad.
  2. Second in the league on punt returns (total yards) .. and averaging almost 10 yards a clip on his returns .. he's also fielded more punts than any other returner to this point (15, next closest is 11) Fourth in kickoff returns (total yards) .. middle of the pack with respect to kickoff return average .. What's nice to see is that Hajrullahu is leading the league in yards per kickoff .. 66.8 yards .. it's nice to see teams working with a bit longer field this season.
  3. Calgary's ratio makeup is dependent on having a NI at RB. Cornish is out with a concussion .. it only makes sense they kick the tires.
  4. Wasn't it the Alouettes who just released him? Yep. Posted: June 16, 2014 12:00 AM Updated: June 16, 2014 12:26 AM CFL.ca Staff #CFLTC14 SHERBROOKE, QC -- The Montreal Alouettes announced late Sunday night that National running back Jerome Messam has been released. The move comes just one day after the Alouettes dropped their pre-season opener to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, in which Messam did not register a carry. The Toronto native was acquired by the Als in a trade with the Eskimos prior to the 2013 season. In 13 appearances last season, Messam ran for 565 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 121 carries. He also hauled in 31 passes for 317 yards. In four CFL seasons, Messam has ran for 1,882 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also reeling in 71 passes for 698 yards. The 2011 season was by far Messam's best, as he ran for a career-high 1,057 yards and six touchdowns with the Eskimos, earning Most Outstanding Canadian honours in the process. Also released by the Alouettes was international tackle Charles Goodwin. The team also placed linebacker Bear Woods on the six-game injured list.
  5. Not even so much as having a finding another Canadian .. It's about better protection overall and keeping Willy healthy and upright. We haven't exactly faced dominating front sevens the last two weeks and Willy has taken a bit of a beating. As far as I'm concerned, after considering the ratio .. the best five guys play .. I'd hate to ruin a young quarterback's confidence because he can't trust the guys in front of him .. beyond that I'd hate to see a shoulder destroyed because we aren't able to protect our passer .. We're seeing injuries take their toll on Lulay .. We've already watch Khari's career end prematurely because we didn't protect him in the pocket ..
  6. While I appreciate Renaud's "ability" to place a ball .. His hang time leaves a lot to be desired .. Now I realize that living on the prairies like we do, he sometimes needs to keep it lower so that he can drive the ball into the wind .. but I feel this is one area of his game that is inconsistent.
  7. Arash Madani is that you? About 2:30 in .. Worst .. Sportscaster .. Ever.
  8. I'd lean toward Benevides if they didn't just extend him .. that and BC has shown they can rebound from poor early season showings .. Personally .. I don't see any of this class of coaches getting turfed ..
  9. Probably need a former NCAA coach / athlete to have a peek at your game.
  10. The team is playing to win and not playing to lose. That is the single most important difference between this year and other year's in recent history. 41 seconds left int he half and they are looking to move the ball downfield and put points on the board.
  11. This guy be trolling .. no sense in hashing it out with him or continuing in this thread .. On that note .. who likes bacon?
  12. Not really .. it was disappointing but when you consider that the Ottawa coaching staff has basically had a training camp .. bye week and this week to prep for their first opponent .. script their first 20 plays or so .. I should damn well hope they could move the ball effectively .. I think more questions might have been raised if they couldn't.
  13. Just another note .. I think the announced crowd last night was 27,500 (and change) .. hopefully we can keep rolling and have the fans rally around this team.
  14. It's 12:30 and I just got home. Left after the final knee, made no stops on the way. That's going to kill walk-up, especially on these Thursday nights. Vastly different experience for me. Left at the final whistle .. On University Crescent 10:54 last night .. walked in my front door 11:08 .. it was an absolute breeze.
  15. A young quarterback will hold onto the ball at times .. what is more impressive is that he doesn't feel the need to force things .. he's being patient and going through his reads .. eyes downfield .. outside the one INT last night .. Willy has been great protecting the ball and has given the Bombers a chance to win in each game this year .. all you can ask for out of a guy with a handful of pro starts.
  16. It's telling how adaptable these guys are in that from the end of the second onward .. they allowed 7 points .. part coaching .. part players waking up from the nap they were taking .. either way .. the resiliency shown last night was night and day compared to *ANYTHING* we saw last year.
  17. 680 CJOB Sports @CJOBSports Only changes to #Bombers roster from last week vs Toronto have KaShawn Fraser and Paul Swiston on, replacing Turner and Cory Watson Swiston is going to take some people by surprise lining up in the slot ..
  18. Well, if nothing else they'll be the only undefeated team in the East after one week ..
  19. Compounds the victory for the owners at any rate .. revenues that weren't accounted for during negotiations .. at any rate .. this is great for the league and hopefully draws a wider audience to our brand of football. It's a renewal, so it's not all new revenue. It would only be significant if it involved a large increase. Expanded coverage this season (and seasons going forward) .. so the monetary value of the deal goes north .. regardless .. more people get exposed to our game .. see it as a viable league .. It's basically the same coverage as last year just all on one network instead of having NBC Sports broadcast the other games. The biggest positive is that no playoff game will be tape delayed which happened last year. That was a pain and likely a reason why NBC Sports was left behind. Stand corrected then! Reading the article made it sound like improved coverage ..
  20. Given how well respected he was in BC .. in that community and by his teammates .. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Banks is a quality guy ..
  21. I'd love to see what he could do if he stayed healthy for a season. He could be a ratio breaker .. But once you stRt suffering these types of soft tissue injuries .. They tend to happen more frequently ..
  22. Yep, so far I'm liking what we did against Toronto a lot better than what Edmonton is doing but in all fairness b.c. is playing much better than Toronto was and are at home. Still - a decent game so far the Eskies are fighting Edmonton was scrappy last year as well. I don't expect them to be pushovers. Especially in Commonwealth.
  23. I'm sorry but JJ did everything this organization asked him to do and never complained publicly, ever. I think there were huge 'attitude' problems last year... once the coach visibly quit on the team and the GM vanished. The description came from Wiecek, so take that for what its worth. Considering how little Poblah and Banks have contributed to their respective clubs, this looks like a lose-lose transaction. Poblah has already contributed more than Banks has this season. That said, I don't view acquiring Banks a mistake. The organization recognized they had a void in the locker room with the departure of many defensive veterans. He was viewed as a guy to fill that void. A bridge for the short term. Nothing more. Signing Banks shouldn't be viewed as a failure .. other players have stepped up and performed (so far) and the team looks quite composed. Could Banks be on his way out? Maybe. But I don't fault Walters for trying to add a steadying influence to a unit that was anything but steady last season.
