  1. The NHL continues to let a POS like Ryan Reaves do his thing. Parros was a goon & he loves what goons do. So, Reaves gets a virtual pass. Repeat offender as well. #Goonies
  2. Watch the merger suddenly take on a more serious tone with some urgency. No way the XFL/CFL if they merge want another league setting up shop in the big media markets in the US next year. If this new USFL is going to go in 2022 then I think the XFL/CFL will as well.
  3. What's happened to Doug Flutie? He looks gaunt. That's the biggest news here.
  4. Here's a CP rail commercial from 1968. A little corny but still very well done.
  5. I watched in its entirety Game 1 of the Best of 3 1968 Western Final from Regina between the Riders & Stampeders. The Stamps would go on & defeat the Riders to advance to the Grey Cup vs the Ottawa Rough Riders. It was so great to see the heroes of my youth again. Stamps qb Peter Liske throwing darts into a 35 mph (60 kph) wind that day, Flanker Terry Evanshen spraining his ankle on a touchdown score, refusing to come out & gutting it out the rest of the way, He was interviewed by sideline reporter that day Don Wittman. He told Witt that "nothing will keep me out of this game." Rudy Linterman returning punts like a warrior with no blocking. On the Riders George Reed & Ron Lancaster along with halfback Silas McKinney, receivers Gordie Barwell, Al Ford & DT Ed McQuarters. Thoroughly enjoyed watching that game & seeing all those players again.. The other thing I enjoyed were the commercials. You know how we're subjected to one commercial playing over & over driving us all insane on TSN's coverage of the CFL? Back then, the major sponsors were Canadian Pacific, Labatts & GM. Not one commercial that day was repeated. Canadian Pacific especially. They sponsored the first half of the game & they had commercials about their refrigerated rail cars shipping frozen meat to suppliers & customers across the country, CP Hotels, CP Air flying across Canada as well as Asia & Europe, shipping ore from mining operations, CP taking cargo all over the world by container ships, CP Trucking, Passenger Rail service across Canada, CP Freight trains, CP Telecommunications like Telex, Broadband & a commercial how they move rail traffic across canada through their network of rail traffic control centres. Labatts had their song, "When you're smiling, say Labatt's Blue". GM introduced their lineup of new cars for 1968 including the Beaumont & others. It's strange to say this today as we all hate the same commercials repeated endlessly during games today but those old ones were all really well done. I was disappointed in CBC's Don Chevrier. He didn't have a great day describing the play. He got players wrong more than once. On one play he said that Stamps MLB Wayne Harris #55 had knocked the ball down from a Saskatchewan receiver when in reality it was corner Frank Andruski #24 for the Stamps. Harris was nowhere near the play so I have no idea how he came up with that.
  6. That logo should be on the helmets not antlers. It's a cool logo being wasted.
  7. Religion has & will continue to be a scourge on all of humanity.
  8. Most if not all 94 recommendations seem reasonable. How many recommendations will the federal government enact?
  9. What would be proper response? How do you make reparations for families ripped apart & kids that died a century ago? I don't know what the solution should be.
  10. If a team is losing three or 4 million a year how is an extra 2 million going to help? They lose 2 million & everybody's happy?? The extra revenue helps but not enough. The situation is dire. How could you say it's not. The CFL collectively lost $80 million. That's an average of $8.8 million per team. So gambling revenues of $2 million would bring that loss down to $6.8 million. The league is dead.
  11. Hard not to enjoy the Leafs suffering when we are force fed Toronto constantly at the expense of our own NHL team. So, I say enjoy the angst & the suffering we see in Toronto tonight by all the Talking Heads on Sportsnet. They are stunned. I'm loving every moment here. Go Jets.
  12. Man, I would have to review that thread as it's hard to really understand what you're saying, what angle you're coming from & what others were saying. as far as Residential Schols go, there is racism & privelige woven through all of it. What Bishop Grandin said about getting the Indian out of kids so they'd be ashamed of their heritage & would be Indian only by blood is about as racist as it gets & there is no forgiveness in that. I don't think this quote can even be explained away as times were different back then compared to now which is how I usually feel. I simply can't justify that here. "We instil in them a pronounced distate of native life so that they will be humiliated when reminded of their origin. When they graduate from our institutions, the children have lost everything Native except their blood." Bishop Vital grandin 1875 explaining his reasoning for Residential Schools. The loving religion of the Catholic Church.
  13. If the CFL can generate more revenue on Sportsnet, I'm all for it. I'd like to see the CFL back on CBC. I think there'd be room for it on saturday afternnons or Sundays. Or maybe on Thursdsay nights. The ship has sailed on CTV as they are into the NFL. And there was bad blood between the CFL & CTV with former Sports President & longtime CFL supporter Johnny Esaw who vowed the CFL would never, ever ever be on CTV again. He was livid they started the CFL Network to televise games in 1986 for 1 season. As well as (ironically) the CFL's refusal to develop Friday Night Football on CTV. Esaw was pushing hard for it & the CFL braintrust at the time felt it was a bad idea. So, CTV walked away from CFL broadcasts & never came back. This is the kind of pea brained thinking the CFL is famous for & why I question just televising games on a cable network & not seeing if there might have been more revenue getting back on network television.
  14. Manfred Mann used the word "deuce" just like Springsteen's version. The lyrics have been changed a bit but the actual word sounds like '******". Was that deliberate? I don't know as you'd have to ask the band. So, I don't know if it's bastardized.
  15. Very few of us knew about these schools growing up. The public was kept in the dark. Those that did were silent & therefore complicit. This goes beyond politics as every party ever in power across this country be it federally or provincially have their hands dirty & the deaths are on their shoulders. I just feel so sad for those poor kids suffering alone & their families whose kids were ripped from them. Then not being allowed to bury their dead or not even knowing what happened to them. This is gut wrenching. Any of us who are parents know how horrible this must have been.
  16. One to 2 million helps but it doesn't make the problems go away. There are virtually no other revenue streams in a country with 37 million people, an aging ticket base & half the country doesn't care. The Tv deal sucks. Putting the CFL solely on a cable network & keeping it there has been a huge mistake. The networks don't want the CFL now. The league totally screwed up. They might have been able to get back on CTV or CBC 10 years ago as ratings were shooting up & Ottawa came back into the league but decided to stay with TSN. Probably too late now.
  17. His version of Hooked On A Feeling was a great song. Blue Swede turned it into a clown show. They even ****** up the lyrics. You'd think they know the words to what they're singing.
  18. They figure at least 800 are buried in Alberta as well. Probably more. The catholic Church has refused to apologize for residential schools. With the pandemic & these crazy pastors & now this. All churches of every religion should lose their tax free status. across canada. that would certainly get the Vatican's attention. They like money as much as the Mafia. I have no idea what you said.
  19. I've read that estimates of only about 1-2 million per team which would help but not turn the Big 3 profitable. They'd still be losing lots of money. The tv contract needs to be rdone to refelect the advertising $$$ & revenues coming in. Teams need more money. I believe that TSN & Bell are sitting on the profits.
  20. Surprised the 215 FN kids buried in mass graves at a residential school in Kamloops hasn't triggered a discussion here. As much as federal, provincial & civic governments need to bear heavy responsibility for this, so does the Catholic Church who ran these schools. Sadistic nuns & pedo priests seem to be the story of these schools. These kids were sexually assaulted, beaten & lived in such cramped conditions that diseases like influenza & tuberculosis ran rampant which seems to be what killed most of the children as young as THREE. . What did these kids or their families do to deserve that?? How can things be made right after 100-150 years??? Just so sad. ******* politicians & ******* religion.
