The most incredible public moment you have seen in person
SpeedFlex27 replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in General Discussion
July 1966. I witnessed the fire at St. Boniface Basilica. Watched the St B & Winnipeg Fire Depts vainly try to save the roof on that old church. My Dad's auto body shop was just a few blocks away on Marion Street right beside the Norwood Hotel. I happened to be at the shop when the fire started. Hearing the sirens, I walked down to see what was going on. -

If a half dozen players from Germany & Mexico become very good CFL players then how is that going to equate to increase revenues for the CFL? If you live in Hamburg or Mexico City do you care? Explain how that is growing the Canadian game? This kind of reminds me of the lazy man's way to build a league. The Homer Simpson approach. Draft & sign a couple of Euros or Mexicans & then claim to have grown the game in their home countries with promises of increased tv revenues to come. With no actual promise of any money coming. Don't do the actual hard work like increasing visibility for the CFL by playing exhibition games over there. -
If you feel that they deserve it then add Collaros/Streveler now as they'll probably never play together again.

Thge rot doesn't start at the bottom when it comes to the Jets. It starts at the top. Ownership on down. We saw that with Chevy & the scandal with the Blackhawks last fall. Instead of Chipman firing Chevy, he doubled down on how great an individual he is. That's where things start when a dowfall of an team starts. Players will take direction but when they see politics taking place along with favouritism as well as a lack of accountability within the Jets organization, it's no surprise this season turned out the way it did.

I actually think he broke that stats. Scored 51 goals in 50 games. So many great Bomber moments over the years... Hard to remember one or two that really stand out. -

Live? Well, let's see... Watching Bobby Hull score (something like) four goals to match Henri Richard's 50 goals in 50 games at the old Arena. -
Hey La Nina, go shove it.

I wasn't comparing Drew to Joe Pop. Where did I ever say that? I was comparing where Joe sat in relation to the other 3 when they played just like Wolitarski does now. We don't know how good he actually is because he may only get one, two or 3 throws his way a game on average. The guy usually catches everything that comes his way, is fearless, tough & no one knows just how good he could be. I know there are fans like me who'd like to see him moved inside where he'd no doubt shine. -

Last year's Grey Cup win on the final play... It doesn't get any better than that. Secretariat winning.... Hell no.... DOMINATING... the Triple Crown in 1973. One of the greatest athletic achievements ever done... even for a horse. New York Jets defeating the Baltimore Colts 16-7 to win SB3 & hasten the merger of the AFL & NFL. The Montreal Canadiens knocking off the heavily, heavily, heavily favoured Boston Bruins in the first round of the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals. The inexperienced Americans knocking off the Soviet Union to win gold in hockey at the Lake Placid Olympic Games in 1980. Bob Labonte's burnt rock at the 1972 Silver Broom allowing Canada (Orest Meleschuk) to steal a single point in extra ends to win the world curling championship. Team Canada winning the 8 game "Summit Series" with the Soviet Union in 1972. Seeing that poor ski jumper fall every week for years. How can he live it down if ABC won't let him? Lol.... People used to talk about the guy all the time. This is the actual footage with commentary of the incident. -

Who was a better receiver, Joe Popawski, Jeff Boyd, Perry Tuttle or James Murphy? I'd say that Joe Pop was probably the #4 receiver in that group. Probably the slowest & maybe even had the worst hands although that could be argued as he made many, many incredible clutch & sure handed grabs as did the others. And yet, Joe Pop reached a thousand yards receiving or was pretty damned close every year he played. It didn't matter if he was #1 or #4. he produced because he was given the chance, something Wolitarsky has not been allowed to do. -

I just answered based on the perameters of your question. -
Not the first owner who fucks things up by forgetting what got him to where he could afford a pro team in the first place.

Being a father & witnessing the birth of my 2 sons. -
Ownership will do diddly squat. I'd love to see what another GM would do & the things he'd change. Chipman owns or his family owned car dealersships around Winnipeg. I'd loved to have worked for him. Even failure is rewarded. Don't sell a car this month? Hey, we'll just double your salary. No worries.

There was this guy. MLB Mickey Doyle 1970-73. Also played for the Stamps & Lions during the 74 season. Knee injury in the 72 Western Final blew out his career. A Western Conference All Star in 1972. Middle photo.

Stage 5 & 6. 8. Both management & coaches have had their chance. It's time for a change after 11 years. The problem is our owner & how committed he is to winning or continually rewarding his friends even when they fail.
