That was the focus of the last season of the Rock's show on HBO.

Watching Calgary going through now what we went through 20 years ago.  Amazing how teams cycle through history, never seeming to learn anything from others or past mistakes.  Calgary needs a new facility, so bad.

And Dave hires Craig. Like WTH??? He's a consultant. Stamps would have been better off hiring another position coach.

wish I had a time machine to go back in time and buy up 10 boxes of cards....though an investment in NVIDIA would probably have been even more lucrative...who knows...

Hey KBF, I used to buy comics as a kid from about age 7 to 14. I'd buy one or two comics a week, every week. I had hundreds of DC & Marvel Comics. Some Gold Key (Space Family Robinson)  & others. But it was DC Comics, Superman, Batman, Hawkman, Superboy, Action Comics, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Or Marvel's Captain America, Spiderman, X Men, Thor, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer. All the way back to 1964 & I kept them in pristine shape as well. Except.... only one problem. On these pristine comics, I drew moustaches, beards & long hair on all the characters in every comic book that I had. How much would comics from 1964-71 have fetched me today if they hadn't been ruined by my artistic flair? WHO KNEW?? Lol. Actually, waaaaahh!!

  3. In curling, I don't get the age thing if you're a skip. If as a skip you practice a lot & play in competitive games. I don't know why someone can't play at a high level well into their 50's. Sure, it's a young person's game if you're a career lead or second but skips don't have to sweep except in the house. And don't need the stamina someone twenty years younger would have. Their game is more mental as they're calling the shots & need to stay sharp.

By the time they're in their mid 40's, skips may need to play brain games of some kind to keep that edge as part of their training regimen. Trust me, I know that. I started losing my memory of little things in my late 40's. I'd go to the store, get out of my car & think, "Why am I here?" A few times, in my 50's, I remember having a bus full of kids & teachers & on the route we were travelling, suddenly forgetting where I was going. Talk about panicking!! "Where the hell am I going??" Thankfully, that always lasted just a few seconds & my memory would come back. I remember 20 years ago being worried that I was getting Early Onset Dementia or Alzheimer's but other drivers told me it also happened to them. I don't worry about that anymore as I found out that it's just a part of the aging process.

So, an older competitive curler like Jennifer Jones would be wise to keep her brain active when training. I wish her the best of luck. Hopefully, she can go out on a high.

Young was a real renegade in his day....How could you not like the guy....He represented to me a guy who played with a big chip on his shoulder but also had the talent that went along with it....I remember him playing with, let's say an 'edge'...I always thought the description 'dirty' was a misnomer...BUT he liked it....One of the best canucks to have played in the Cfl

Some of the stories in Young's book are hilarious. I'm looking at the paperback right now & thinking I should re-read it for the umpteenth time.

    What a great memory.

I was always Rick House when we played football after school. Good times.

House & Joe Pop were the best tandem receivers on the inside bar none. Canadian or American.

Toss Kelly out of the league. He can go play with G.Marino. This isn't unlawful dismissal unfortunately but the victim had every right to be protected from a predator, and if the Argos and the CFL have any moral compass they will dismiss Kelly.

Just for the sake of argument, What if the allegations by this coach are found to be not true & the Argos had already tossed Kelly on heresay to placate the fans of other teams calling for his blood. MLSE would be dragged into court & sued for millions of dollars in damages by Kelly. And while it's true MLSE has hundreds of millions of dollars that any judgement found against it would be but a pittance, the damage to the brand would be far, far worse. Let's see what the CFL does about this.

I'm not taking Kelly's side. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here for the sake of discussion.

Why does it have to go to court?

Both the CFL and the Argos will definitely have a harassment policy. The CFL Contracts may have a character clause.

The courts are going to test: Is this a human rights offense? Was she wrongfully terminated?

What if everything that is recorded in the lawsuit happened exactly as described BUT the courts find that Kelly's actions didn't rise to the level of infringing on her human rights and due to the nature of her rolling contract the Argos were within their rights to not renew it. Does Kelly just get a pat on the back and told not to do it again or should their be consequences to someone's shitty actions. If you go directly to her (former) supervisor and he confirms that this is exactly what happens, don't you have grounds to act without hearing the courts?

When a player has a 1.8 million dollar contract, I'm sure the assistant coach would have to prove her allegations that there was wrongdoing in court before Kelly's career is terminated as he could also turn around & sue the Argos. Anyway, she filed a lawsuit & now I'm sure Kelly & the Argos will file a countersuit.

NFL salary cap rises $30.6 million to record $255.4 million per team, to say business is booming would be an understatement.

How did the CFL ever miss the Gravy Train??? As a fan, I'd take just one tenth of that growth thrown our way. .

Bighill isn't doing a mob job. He puts in the work. I know people who use his services and he's the real deal there.

You don't fart around with people's money. He would have to study to get licensed & then take part in some in depth training & guidance from his superiors at work. He would have to put in the work.

  9. This isn't a jersey but it does have to do with a CFL collectible. I have one of the first printings in paperback of Jim Young's book, "Dirty 30". Even though he was never a Bomber, I still loved the guy because he was a true Canadian Superstar when he played. How he got to the CFL via that intraleague NFL-CFL trade in 1967, the way he played, his flamboyancy & controversy made me a natural to be one of his biggest fans as a teen. My book is in rough shape as it's 50 years old. The back is falling apart & the glue is failing so the pages are coming out. It's just.... old!

I contacted this place in Edmonton who repair old books & they said that they could redo the book & make it look better than brand new. I contacted Jim Young on Facebook & told him who I was & asked once the book is repaired, would he be kind enough to autograph it for me? He said yes! Just have to ship it up for repairs to get 'er done. Then contact Jim Young.

This is a complete aside but these types of deals (1 year) is a primary reason I haven't bought a "player jersey" in years.   There's no incentive for me to if the player is gone the next year.

It's either me repping my family or going old school with one of our greats.

I go old school. I'm old enough to be some of these young player's grandfather so I feel more comfortable wearing a jersey with a name from the 1960's-80's.

ADD to that an offseason where some of the argo payers picked up on what had happened, (we know something like this spreads like fire in a locker room) AND could be a reason why some of their players wanted to head for the exit in fa.....Can't say that scenario is what has taken place, but the sequence of events has definitely a stigma attached to it....considering the latest revelations

I'd say most Argos probably thought it's not their problem & didn't want to get involved. More money elsewhere probably made all of them leave.

yeah it's quite frankly offensive to everyone. Women just have to put up with being harassed and sorry men, you're just animals with no self control.

No the reason some men act like this is because they've never faced consequences for it. It's not OK to be a shitty person and the sooner crap like "well boys will be boys" goes away the better off the entirety of society will be.

The thing is, Pinball & Dinwiddie could create the best environment for a woman working with their players making it as safe as safe could be. Built in with all the checks & balances trying to keep female employees safe from harm from fools like Kelly creating a toxic working environment. The sad truth is that there'll always be someone who will think he's above it all & will take advantage of the situation. That he believed he could get away with sexual advances or harassment of a female employee is ludicrous. This time it's Chad Kelly who thought he was above it all. Now, it's come back on him.

In that situation, you'd hope at the very least that the players would help police the situation to stop it if they witnessed it. That coaches & management would do what they have to do as a deterrent for it not to happen again. Even if that deterrent  means termination of the team's highest paid player in Kelly. Or an Assistant GM in John Murphy who has done stupid things in the past, been suspended for it & who needs to be dealt with again. Permanently.

On the flip side, what if a player is being harassed by a trainer or a coach like what happened with the Blackhawks in Chicago? There needs to be protection for innocent players as well from authority figures.

I can't see situation this ending well.

It sort of felt inevitable. But, this time, Walters had the upper hand negotiating. I'm kind of surprised he didn't go UFL, then sign with a CFL team when that contract ended.

I hate the 1 year deals. it's hard to budget for next season when you constantly have to renegotiate these deals. You'd think an older veteran like Castillo would want some security that a two or 3 year deal brings.

  14. It's hard for the Bombers to play it fair & square with older players like Jeffcoat when his own teammates didn't care (Oliveira & Schoen) about him either. They stalled the process by waiting until it was FA time in the CFL. At the same time, it's not their responsibility to care. There'll come a time when what happened to Jeffcoat will happen to them.

  15. Kelly got into a barfight while in college at Oxford Mississippi in 2014 when he was thrown out by bouncers. He threatened to go to his truck, pick up his AK-47 & "spray this place" which he never did but the threat was still made. He also resisted arrest & injured a cop while in college so this kind of behaviour seems to follow him around.

He also got into a screaming match with some of his coaches during the spring game at Ole Miss  when they decided to punt rather than go for it on 4th & one. The exchange was so bad that he was benched the remainder of the game.

If these charges by this strength & conditioning coach are proven true, I can't see how the Argos can keep him around anymore. And good ol' John Murphy? well, you just can't keep a good man down. If he isn't beating on opposing fans, then he just can't keep from saying stupid things to the woman involved by saying she shouldn't have talked to Kelly & now has opened a "can of worms". . He should be fired (again) if this whole situation is proven true in a court of law.

What a terrible off season for the Argos. Do you just get the feeling the firing was the work of John Murphy?

546 000 tourists visit Jets games?  Or would you say it's predominately people who reside in Winnipeg who go to the game and then immediately goes home?    Apples and Oranges comparisons.

Do you think a million tourists go to the Calgary Stampede? That would be impossible as there's only a finite number of hotels in Calgary. So therefore, a high percentage of those million visitors to the Stampede grounds every year are local folks from Calgary & Southern Alberta . Sure there are tourists from Europe & Asia as well as the US it's maybe 25%, I'd think. As far as Jets home games go, the half million or so who attend are Winnipeggers with some tourists. People still come downtown. They have no choice.

    Pass - Run: who cares

November games hurt attendance and weaken the whole league ... many fans stay home when they would attend in May

MOVE THE GC TO THE 1ST SUNDAY IN NOVEMBER

What a weeny. Why not have the CFL merge with the UFL & play games in April? Have the championship in July? With fans like you that are afraid of a little cold that'll be the ultimate future of our league. Four down spring football will be all that's left. You can sit thru the spring snowstorms or the miserable drawn out cold springs.

You make the mistake of getting your info from the news/media.   I remember the time several years back when Trump was arriving in Canada and the news reported a massive riot and how stores were locking up shop and boarding up the windows. The news made it out like it was a scene from the movie the Warriors.   I was on the scene of that so called riot and it was 25 hippies who held signs for 10 minutes peacefully and then walked away.   The news isn't reliable.  CBC being by far the worst.

Per capita Winnipeg has far more crime then those 3 cities.   Where you find poverty you find crime,  that's why Regina and Winnipeg have higher crime rates and the worst homicide rate across Canada.   A large factor is that these cities have a large indigenous community which many come from insanely dangerous places.  Thompson often is the worst city in Canada for crime.   What the news/media reports is probably only 5% of that total incidents of serious crime.   Talk to a police officer ,  someone in justice,  or even folks who work at hospitals and in ambulances.   Soooooo much really messed up and bad things happen that people are completely unaware of.    I assume this is done on purpose to not freak out the general population.   The stories that I have heard are horrendous and people would be horrified if they knew about what goes on.

Statistically you are wrong and Toronto is a safer place.  You are more likely to be killed here in the Peg.

I did say Edmonton and Buffalo are comparables to Winnipeg and if that is what we are comparing with then that's extremely sad.   Bottom of the barrel.

I have not been to Calgary in a few years,  but I have been to at least 20 other cities and each of them were light years better then Winnipeg.   My co workers from Edmonton who came in last year said downtown visually is similar to what they have with the buildings and the size... but the overall safetyness and cleanilness was much better in Edmonton.

Also Winnipeg downtown is deserted during the days now since many people are working from home,  when I drive through downtown down Main and up Portage ,  I can count maybe  20 working class people on the streets?   It is super quiet these days.

    Also....

That has nothing to do with anything. The Jets have 42 home game averaging 13,000 fans a game. That's 546,000 that come downtown. Throw in Moose games & concerts & maybe another 150,000 & it's three quarter of a million people.

So this 12k promo money is from a seperate fund that teams pay players for appearances etc. Teams need to spend atleast 110k but there is maximum for this fund.

Yet another CFL policy that fans are left in the dark on. What would prevent the Bombers from paying Brandy 100k for player appearances and allocate part of his salary to someone else?

    The sailors say Brandy....
