I was curious and did some googling... I didn't know that CFL greats Damon Allen, Mike Pringle, and Allen Pitts all played for Cal State. I'm sure some of you already knew that but it's news to me!

SFU once held a record for most 1st overall picks... so much for that... :(

There's no Cal State. It's Cal State Fullerton. They dropped their football program years ago.

Much smaller population and audience which translates into significantly smaller broadcasting deals .. limited reach (in terms of global audience and awareness) and a somewhat insignificant approach over the years to grow the game at a grassroots level.

Football is religion in the US (I know you know this well);  Hockey is Canada's.

And yet, is hockey failing in Winnipeg? Again?????

Jones’ decision to walk was purely family related, according to her. Wants to be there for her daughters more.

Yeah, tough to be away from young kids every weekend.

Didn’t the bombers have a dude who killed his wife and her body never was found. I mean that’s going back in the past tho. Recently. I guess Jonathan Hefney probably and that’s not even that recent. And I think his issues happened after football.

Yes, former Bomber TE Brian Jack allegedly killed his wife back in the late 80's. I think he had 3 separate criminal trials & was convicted of second degree murder on unsubstantiated evidence in the first trial in 1990 as Jack's wife Christine's body has never been found. He was sentenced to life in prison.

His lawyer appealed to the Manitoba Court of Appeal & in 1992 a new trial was granted. The second trial found Jack not guilty & the Crown appealed the outcome. It went to the Supreme Court of Canada who backed the outcome of the second trial.

The Crown had a third trial & convicted Jack to 4 years in prison for manslaughter in 1994. Jack's lawyer appealed all the way to the Supreme Court who overturned the Lower Court decision in 1995 & Jack walked away a free man. His daughter feels that Jack knows where her Mother is buried & has appealed to her Father to come clean & confess to her murder as well as tell Police where her mother's remains are but Jack refuses to talk to her.

Jack had played in the CFL from 1973-79 for the Bombers & Ottawa. He was an unemployed football player & a decade after he last played the money must have been tight. The night jack's wife died, they had a big argument & she had stormed out of their house in St. Vital & she drove off in their Chevy Blazer never to be seen again.

I think just about everyone who knows about this case believes Brian Jack did kill his wife but there was no hard evience to convict as well as no body. However, knowing what we know now about traumatic brain injuries that we didn't know about back then is how brain injuries & head trauma  affects & changes behaviour. Although unproven, it may also be safe to say that CTE may have contributed to Jack's behaviour that night. The argument may have triggered something inside Brian Jack that caused him to do a terrible thing.

Much like former Blue Bomber Al Brenner suddenly leaving his family in 1986 & disappearing for 12 years. Maybe he also had thoughts of murder & violence on his mind & realized that he had to get away for their safety.  Although, before his death in 2012, Brenner always claimed he couldn't explain why he left.  Or didn't want to. Just surmising on my part.

I think it's time to face the facts....the argo's have a 'loose cannon' on their club ...The history of this guy suggests it could be a mental issue....Besides the moral obligation that the team has , there now exists a criminal element as well....Until this goes through the courts a suspension of this player should be brought forward by the league ....Anything less will be seen as inaction.....I'm afraid Kelly has dug himself a hole and his history suggests this kind of thing 'could' happen again....The league going silent on this mess is deafening

Randy Ambrosie is a coward. The shittiest Commissioner the CFL has ever had.  Oh look, an Ambrosie sighting coming out of his cave.

That was the focus of the last season of the Rock's show on HBO.

Watching Calgary going through now what we went through 20 years ago.  Amazing how teams cycle through history, never seeming to learn anything from others or past mistakes.  Calgary needs a new facility, so bad.

And Dave hires Craig. Like WTH??? He's a consultant. Stamps would have been better off hiring another position coach.

Hey KBF, I used to buy comics as a kid from about age 7 to 14. I'd buy one or two comics a week, every week. I had hundreds of DC & Marvel Comics. Some Gold Key (Space Family Robinson)  & others. But it was DC Comics, Superman, Batman, Hawkman, Superboy, Action Comics, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Or Marvel's Captain America, Spiderman, X Men, Thor, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer. All the way back to 1964 & I kept them in pristine shape as well. Except.... only one problem. On these pristine comics, I drew moustaches, beards & long hair on all the characters in every comic book that I had. How much would comics from 1964-71 have fetched me today if they hadn't been ruined by my artistic flair? WHO KNEW?? Lol. Actually, waaaaahh!!

  8. In curling, I don't get the age thing if you're a skip. If as a skip you practice a lot & play in competitive games. I don't know why someone can't play at a high level well into their 50's. Sure, it's a young person's game if you're a career lead or second but skips don't have to sweep except in the house. And don't need the stamina someone twenty years younger would have. Their game is more mental as they're calling the shots & need to stay sharp.

By the time they're in their mid 40's, skips may need to play brain games of some kind to keep that edge as part of their training regimen. Trust me, I know that. I started losing my memory of little things in my late 40's. I'd go to the store, get out of my car & think, "Why am I here?" A few times, in my 50's, I remember having a bus full of kids & teachers & on the route we were travelling, suddenly forgetting where I was going. Talk about panicking!! "Where the hell am I going??" Thankfully, that always lasted just a few seconds & my memory would come back. I remember 20 years ago being worried that I was getting Early Onset Dementia or Alzheimer's but other drivers told me it also happened to them. I don't worry about that anymore as I found out that it's just a part of the aging process.

So, an older competitive curler like Jennifer Jones would be wise to keep her brain active when training. I wish her the best of luck. Hopefully, she can go out on a high.

Young was a real renegade in his day....How could you not like the guy....He represented to me a guy who played with a big chip on his shoulder but also had the talent that went along with it....I remember him playing with, let's say an 'edge'...I always thought the description 'dirty' was a misnomer...BUT he liked it....One of the best canucks to have played in the Cfl

Some of the stories in Young's book are hilarious. I'm looking at the paperback right now & thinking I should re-read it for the umpteenth time.

    What a great memory.

I was always Rick House when we played football after school. Good times.

House & Joe Pop were the best tandem receivers on the inside bar none. Canadian or American.

Toss Kelly out of the league. He can go play with G.Marino. This isn't unlawful dismissal unfortunately but the victim had every right to be protected from a predator, and if the Argos and the CFL have any moral compass they will dismiss Kelly.

Just for the sake of argument, What if the allegations by this coach are found to be not true & the Argos had already tossed Kelly on heresay to placate the fans of other teams calling for his blood. MLSE would be dragged into court & sued for millions of dollars in damages by Kelly. And while it's true MLSE has hundreds of millions of dollars that any judgement found against it would be but a pittance, the damage to the brand would be far, far worse. Let's see what the CFL does about this.

I'm not taking Kelly's side. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here for the sake of discussion.

Why does it have to go to court?

Both the CFL and the Argos will definitely have a harassment policy. The CFL Contracts may have a character clause.

The courts are going to test: Is this a human rights offense? Was she wrongfully terminated?

What if everything that is recorded in the lawsuit happened exactly as described BUT the courts find that Kelly's actions didn't rise to the level of infringing on her human rights and due to the nature of her rolling contract the Argos were within their rights to not renew it. Does Kelly just get a pat on the back and told not to do it again or should their be consequences to someone's shitty actions. If you go directly to her (former) supervisor and he confirms that this is exactly what happens, don't you have grounds to act without hearing the courts?

When a player has a 1.8 million dollar contract, I'm sure the assistant coach would have to prove her allegations that there was wrongdoing in court before Kelly's career is terminated as he could also turn around & sue the Argos. Anyway, she filed a lawsuit & now I'm sure Kelly & the Argos will file a countersuit.

NFL salary cap rises $30.6 million to record $255.4 million per team, to say business is booming would be an understatement.

How did the CFL ever miss the Gravy Train??? As a fan, I'd take just one tenth of that growth thrown our way. .

  13. This isn't a jersey but it does have to do with a CFL collectible. I have one of the first printings in paperback of Jim Young's book, "Dirty 30". Even though he was never a Bomber, I still loved the guy because he was a true Canadian Superstar when he played. How he got to the CFL via that intraleague NFL-CFL trade in 1967, the way he played, his flamboyancy & controversy made me a natural to be one of his biggest fans as a teen. My book is in rough shape as it's 50 years old. The back is falling apart & the glue is failing so the pages are coming out. It's just.... old!

I contacted this place in Edmonton who repair old books & they said that they could redo the book & make it look better than brand new. I contacted Jim Young on Facebook & told him who I was & asked once the book is repaired, would he be kind enough to autograph it for me? He said yes! Just have to ship it up for repairs to get 'er done. Then contact Jim Young.

This is a complete aside but these types of deals (1 year) is a primary reason I haven't bought a "player jersey" in years.   There's no incentive for me to if the player is gone the next year.

It's either me repping my family or going old school with one of our greats.

I go old school. I'm old enough to be some of these young player's grandfather so I feel more comfortable wearing a jersey with a name from the 1960's-80's.

ADD to that an offseason where some of the argo payers picked up on what had happened, (we know something like this spreads like fire in a locker room) AND could be a reason why some of their players wanted to head for the exit in fa.....Can't say that scenario is what has taken place, but the sequence of events has definitely a stigma attached to it....considering the latest revelations

I'd say most Argos probably thought it's not their problem & didn't want to get involved. More money elsewhere probably made all of them leave.

yeah it's quite frankly offensive to everyone. Women just have to put up with being harassed and sorry men, you're just animals with no self control.

No the reason some men act like this is because they've never faced consequences for it. It's not OK to be a shitty person and the sooner crap like "well boys will be boys" goes away the better off the entirety of society will be.

The thing is, Pinball & Dinwiddie could create the best environment for a woman working with their players making it as safe as safe could be. Built in with all the checks & balances trying to keep female employees safe from harm from fools like Kelly creating a toxic working environment. The sad truth is that there'll always be someone who will think he's above it all & will take advantage of the situation. That he believed he could get away with sexual advances or harassment of a female employee is ludicrous. This time it's Chad Kelly who thought he was above it all. Now, it's come back on him.

In that situation, you'd hope at the very least that the players would help police the situation to stop it if they witnessed it. That coaches & management would do what they have to do as a deterrent for it not to happen again. Even if that deterrent  means termination of the team's highest paid player in Kelly. Or an Assistant GM in John Murphy who has done stupid things in the past, been suspended for it & who needs to be dealt with again. Permanently.

On the flip side, what if a player is being harassed by a trainer or a coach like what happened with the Blackhawks in Chicago? There needs to be protection for innocent players as well from authority figures.

I can't see situation this ending well.
