  1. Early in camp you don’t want to just have 4 qbs. I imagine they signed Mahoney after Durant retired not so much to compete for the back job but to be that 4th qb so the other 3 don’t get too warn down. The nice thing about this guy is I don’t think he takes up a roster spot because he is treated as a draft pick so it gives them some freedom roster wise.

On taking the $70K bonus from the #Bombers. "I deserve it." - Darian Durant #CFL via @rodpedersen

Is this for real?  He did absolutely nothing to earn that money.  That's like losing your job a pepsi and then robbing coke for 70k.

He was already way overpaid for his performance the past few years in the CFL.

  3. Not surprised to see Donteea Dye signed.  I had watched the most recent season of NFL Film's Hardknocks on HBO and he was heavily featured. He was better than the rookie receiver they had kept instead of him but the other guy was cheaper and had a higher potential ceiling. He was pretty surprised he got cut but that's just what happens in the NFL after a couple years in the league. He's a polished receiver.

With JSK I think we will have that MLBer. If gause turns out to be a player he has the potential too. But no matter who we start it wont be as bad as kuale, err hurl... I hope? We seem to do a bang up job of picking the worst MLBers possible.

I think Kyrie Wilson will factor into the middle linebacker competition as well.  There’s lots of competition. Like you say whoever it is will be a massive upgrade over Hurl.

Definitely hate what Walters did this draft, or to put it better, what he didn't do.

Every other team tries to significantly improve every off season. Can't see how this years draft efforts are going to even remotely help to do that. I think that Simonize is going to be Addison Richards 2.0 and that is the highlight. It just gets ugly after that. Still think Bombers Cdn depth is going to be tested this year - and found to be way too thin.

The team may do well, but I think there is also a good chance they will significantly regress, and when you couple that with every other team solidly improving this off season, it may not be BCs draft pick that give them the top pick next year.

Calgary isn’t getting better.  They are trying to fill massive holes on their offensive line to try and make up for busts in previous years.  After the third round you rarely get anything of long term substance. So the bombers basically solidified their agenda of starting two Canadian receivers by drafting 2 of the top 3 or 4 receivers in the draft including Simonise who has the potential to be one of the top Canadian receivers in the league if he and the bombers are able to get him back to where he was when he played for the Dinos.  There was nothing that would have been available at pick 7 that was going to make this team better this season.  It would have been another backup offensive lineman who’s gonna take a couple years to develop.

  6. If in fact there were better offensive lineman available at the number 7 spot than Walters predicted the nice thing about this is they didn’t give away their pick.  It should result in a top 3 pick next year from BC.   Secondly without this trade there’s a good chance Simonise would not have been on he board when our 2nd round pick came around.

The trade to me really hinges on how good spooner and the developmental guy from last year are.  If they are legit future starters than it was a good trade because we are going to have trouble protecting all these guys. Especially if Gray joins the team later this year.

thats an inaccurate and dramatic over simplification. BMI, BMR etc you can take 20 OL across the league with the same weight and have 20 different body types.  Size on the OL is the primary limiting factor. if you dont have enough, even if you are very good you will wear down and get beat. An under weight OL has to over compensate by spending more energy to have the same push. You drop to a lower weight through the course of the game, and lose more energy. Its been his biggest issue through his career to this point so its easy to see how it would be.

If that’s been an issue for him then I would concede that point I’m just curious what you’re basing this on?

Again the weigh in on the first day of TC doesnt indicate how maintainable it is. Cant speak to the quality or type of weight added, or if it came back off, or if it would under regular play. But expecting a 276 lbs guy when drafted who hasnt gotten a regular spot thus far to become a starting guard vs other guys on the roster with experience at the position and the needed size is a heavy stretch. T-G is the easy switch on the OL, if you are big enough. Hardrick has started at guard as recent as late last year. He also isnt undersized and doesnt struggle with weight.

Your weight is really just calories in and calories out and there’s a lot more important things than size when it comes to being a cfl offensive lineman.  I’m not suggesting he starts over our 3 Canadian starters at the moment but when the time comes I don’t see it being an issue for him.  Unless there’s something about him and putting on weight that has been unreported or I’m unaware of it.    I’m expecting him to come to training camp this year over 300 pounds.

294 would put him amongst if not the smallest guard in the league. 294 at the start of camp, how heavy do you think he'd be late in games? especially late in the season? Moving the undersized tackle to guard, is a high risk low reward move.

I mentioned his weight from last training camp because that was already up 10 pounds from the year before.  I would imagine he’s added additional weight.  I just don’t see it being an issue.

Can never really know a year before hand in the cfl. Cant really know till right before the draft really.

I think Bcs pick next year is gonna be 3rd or 4th. Seems like a great gamble.

Im hoping for couture, but i can not see him being a guard. He is a small tackle. I like our crop of young NI ol. we have some gooders who should be rounding into form this year or next.

I don’t see how Couture is too small. He was already up to 294 last training camp.

  11. The Cleveland Browns have already signed 4 undrafted offensive lineman. One is just a tryout contract though but the other three are priority free agents.

OT Desmond Harrison - West Georgia - 6-6, 292 lbs.

    OL Erick Wren - Oklahoma - 6-2, 308 lbs.

    OL Christian DiLauro - Illinois - 6-5, 300 lbs.

    C Freddie Burden - Georgia Tech - 6-3, 302 lbs. TRYOUT*

because GD is where talk goes to die :P

 I think it would have been solid for a win this year move, if the browns traded down for him and went with an old vick type offensive game plan.

Id take allen over any other qb in this draft.  Idk if any one of the qbs are good enough to be a real bust this year.  if its any one imo its darnold.

Allen has the most upside IMO.  And playing for the Bills should work out well. They have a dominant run game and are used to not asking much from their quarterback. They can simplify the passing game for him early on as he works on his accuracy and understanding of the game. Just having him back there might help as the safeties wouldn't be able to cheat with an arm like that.

    ----------------------------------

So the Browns ended up drafted just one an offensive lineman. The chances of Gray cracking the lineup is pretty decent. I'm sure they will sign some priority free agents.  Can't we just call in a favor to Bob Wylie.  Get him to guy Gray and make public comments about how he doesn't have the right stuff to play in the NFL :).      Geoff Gray if you're reading this JKJK

I like Baker Mayfield. Hes got fire.. Hes a leader and a good QB.. Browns OL coach is Bob Wylie so they should be better. Id have taken Mayfield 1st overall also. Hes a stud. Hes gonna be a star if they let him develop properly and dont rush him.

Me too. I really like what the Bills did too.  Allen could end up being the best qb in the group.
