  3. The first UFC card had a very large amount of tickets purchased by chiefs who sent folks from the reserve. I saw numerous fights in the crowd starting in the earlier prelims. It was bad. What didn't help was the lack of security and the security being older ladies with flashlights trying to break up 4 - 10 people swinging wildly. The funnier part was that the fights were in the better seats and the cheap bastards (like me) in the nosebleeds were cordial.
  4. There were some good fights and I thought the crowd was really good too. Only saw two people getting escorted out of the building and if there were any fights in the crowd, I didn't see them. A far cry from the first event here - UFC staff were saying that UFC 161 (in 2013) had the most crowd fights out of any event they've ever done so they kind of expect that now.
  5. Kind of a side bar....but Brady O's new TV show is up and running on CBC Gem. I plan on checking it out at some point this week.
  6. That or they reach in the draft and push a guy early. Now, this draft is not a strong WR draft at all. But even outside of the top 2-3, who are alright, you have a mix of guys who either have size/hands or have strong measurables. Taking from either group is about as good as ajou any way, imo. The gap between the 2-3 top tiers of wrs in this draft isn't huge. They all got question marks and need development. If we don't get Cenacle or Demontagnac, getting 2 mid tier guys would be pretty good. Like Djete (though some one will reach for him), Gavin owen who would offer a ton of early value as a teams guy too, Or sibley, or mcbean. I could also see us falling in love with Ojutalayo for his teams value as well.

  11. It is, but I don't think the ALS takes any moral flaw seriously. I'd note that Chad did not shut up and do everything he was supposed to. He spoke out against his punishment twice, failed to meet the terms of his deal on time, and didn't he have an incident at a college or hs game he was attending while he was suspended? For real, he's a slightly bigger Corcoran with one of the biggest character red flags in football.

  13. His departure really hurt the RIders. Not because he is a great receiver per se, but they run 3 NATs and were already perilously thin for quality depth there. Now they have nothing. This could necessitate a roster flip for them and their NAT depth is mediocre.
  14. While not a spectacular card I thought their were some really good matches.

  18. Yeah sex pest was more conversation/harassment centered...Ajou was more of an actual physical unwanted touching thing was it not?....so yeah only a fool would challenge his suspension.....Kelly did everything kinda right and caused no issues with it....and being a high profile player and key player position wise I guess good on him and the Argo org for doing all the necessary things..Ajou on other hand is a fart in the wind kinda player and his being on a roster...or off one is negligeable and no team would be better off...or worse for wear for it with him in regards to their roster...he's a big ol nothing burger
  19. What Ajou did was sexual assault which is serious. So, I doubt he challenges his suspension. He may end up in jail. Chad Kelly never challenged his suspension. he just took his punishment, shut his mouth & did everything he was supposed to do.
  20. Oh well... It was always out of his hands. No one can control government red tape & regulation. The trouble getting a visa is why no Canadians played on the American teams in the CFL 30 years ago. The American govt said no. It only benefitted guys like Dunigan, Pringle, Elfrid Payton, Ham & Damon Allen. The star American players all cashed in & left as they were paid in American dollars while the Canadians were forced to stay & get paid in Canadian dollars. At the time, the Loonie was in a similar situation as it is now vs the Canadian dollar.
  21. Yowch. Hope he doesn't hold some resentment.
  22. i dont think we see him at all this yr...may be a quiet signing in 2027 off-season tho by some team with poor character decisions.....and really...It's not like he is a great asset anyway...crappy route runner....suspect hands....obviously an arsebag.....and he kinda showed that on field with his actions as well....Looks the part.....but isn't a top end guys...basically bottom end of you roster receiver....his passport was his greatest asset....but he just pissed all over that...
  23. Just to keep beating a dead horse. Birmingham traded their star QB. Elgersma may have had a chance to start had he been able to get a visa.
  24. Thats true, but he could sign and challenge the suspension just like Lemon did.
  25. Short yardage is 99% having a brain and effort. KG was the best short-yardage QB we've seen. Wasn't worth the injuries, though. Currently, yeah in modern terms. 2016 is the next best right now. That year didn't pan out as aggressively as it could've but it gave us a massive and badly needed influx of ni talent at the right positions. (Loffler, Corney, Couture, and Gauthier.) 2024 has the potential to be that kind of draft for us as well. Wallce, MCI, Clercius, Leroux, and if Manu hits it up here.
  26. Amazing draft, especially considering how much of a crap shoot it really is. For example I was reading the article about a look at former first overall players in the CFL draft since 2019 and over half of them are out of the league already, and the only all star is Richardson who was a special teams all star. Every single one of six players from the Bombers are still in the league. It’s just wild.
  27. I'm sure the UFC is more than happy with the gate, especially since it's likely much higher than what they would have gotten in Ottawa. Ottawa has held 2 events and the gates were far lower (1.27 million in 2016 & 807k in 2019) than what they've done here. Yeah the low fighter payroll will help with their bottom line and so will lower commission fees (Ontario is notoriously expensive for running events). They sold a ton of merchandise too (every hockey jersey they made for the event got bought) so it was a good night for them I would think.
  28. Gate did 1.9 million compared to the 3.15 million they did when they first came. Lottta comped tickets. But with such a lack of star power it may have been more profitable since nobody that was fighting was making big bucks.

  31. Leading by example isn’t just what he does between the pipes. Personality preferences is no excuse for bad behaviour. Example, if one of your personality traits is being a blunt person it doesn’t give you licence to say and do what you want with others just because that’s ’who I am’.
  32. The entire league has Winnipeg on its no trade list. What Helle is saying is public knowledge.
  33. You don't air dirty laundry in public and real leaders take at least some blame, even if they don't need to (and Helle was far from perfect...)
  34. The 1971 Canadian College Draft the Bombers drafted Wingback Bobby Kraemer, DB & WB Peter Ribbins, Fullback Clay McEvoy & HB Dennis Hrycaiko. All except Hrycaiko played extensively & helped turn a horrible 2-14 Bomber team in 1970 into an exciting 8-7-1 third place team with the highest scoring offense in the league. The Bombers made the playoffs for the first time in 5 seasons. Kraemer& Ribbins were starters. A draft pick from a year earler in the second round, Bob LaRose was also an impact player. Tall, fast with soft hands, LaRose became a favourite of QB Don Jonas as he had the speed & route running ability to get open downfield. Suddenly, CFL DC's had to account not only for Split End Jim Thorpe downfield but LaRose as well. They complimented each other very well. Two years before, anyone unfortunate enough to play qb for the Bombers had no one at all to throw to. Kraemer could play qb & did at times to spell off Jonas as well as becoming a clutch possession receiver. In one game in 1973, Kraemer caught 15 passes which was a Bomber record for number of catches.. Ribbins was another great receiver but an even better Defensive Back where he was a ball hawk in the secondary lining up against the CFL's best receivers. He led the CFL in interceptions in 1972 . McEvoy backed up FB Ed Williams. He was a crash & banger up the middle like Bob Houmard was. As well as a decent blocker. I never liked GM Earl Lunsford. He was an Old School Oklahoman meaning he didn't like Blacks although he knew he needed them to win. He treated his players like vermin at times. However, from 1970 to 72 he drafted very well & our Canadian content was replenished. These & other guys Lunsford drafted those 3 seasons shone as players.
  35. I dunno. Helle has always been similar after not reaching the end goal. His post season interviews in the past have had similar vibes for sure. He doesn’t like criticism and never blames himself. He just doesn’t and hasn’t ever done that. He’s said he can always work on things to improve but he’s never actually accepted criticism. It’s never him. Watch previous season ending interviews with him. It’s similar. It’s how he’s wired. I’d say he’s probably saying what lots of the core is thinking. I think the article I originally saw said don’t be surprised if Helle played his last game in Winnipeg and I clicked and I didn’t get that sense at all. Bit sensationalized headline there. Helle leads by example I suppose. He’s always been outspoken with the media tho. Honest really. Blunt even. Surely YouTube has his past season ending interviews up. It’s always similar when not winning with him. Would it be nice if he was a bit more humble and said I personally didn’t have the best season minus being on an Olympic all star team? Yup but he’d never say that ever. And in the end Helle isn’t the problem, the problem is signing washed up bums to play with washed up bums. 31 of 32 teams would have waived Nyquist, we gave him minutes pp time ot time and shootouts. Nino also. Names also. But we played them. Why give a kid a shot in the top 6 when you can play defensive guru Iafallo up there. Helle is right.
