2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
Bell is gradually extricating itself from producing live sports that it sells direct to consumer. It learned from the NHL it's not the easiest way to make money. Rogers also wants out of producing live sports as they are bleeding cash on NHL. CBC is already 100% out on pro sports. They want to sell everything to streamers or rebroadcast ESPN/Sky Sports (F1) and other international feeds. In the long run this is pretty bad news for sustainability of the broadcast market in Canada. If the streamers lose interest or realize the product doesn't sell, back to square one with limited production capacity existing.

Given the new deal MBB better step up with a raise for me next year.

2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
Yup....I like to see at least 2 additional spots for Imports, and 1 Canadian Based on the dollar value being mentioned in news...doesn't this effectively triple what teams will be taking in money wise from their previous portion of the current TV deal?
-
2026 Bombers Season
This would be the complete opposite of that though. If it was a Jake Thomas situation then Wilson would still be here....he is the Jake Thomas.
-

Well why wouldn’t he? See Jake Thomas. I’ll show myself out.

2026 CFL Around The League (Not Bombers Specific)
Deal starts in 2027 so next year we will see massive SMS increases. I hope they also add roster spots. I can't foresee a circumstance where the CFLPA doesn't go in that direction with the player's share. Maybe they keep a bit for benefits but the lion's share will be SMS and it will be a massive increase. We may see a whole bunch of million dollar contract receivers next offseason.

2026 Bombers Season
The chatter seems to indicate that Wilson thought he was just going to be handed the spot... so that's probably why he bailed. Didn't want to compete and felt he was getting beaten.

New TV Contract
Yes. The trend very much has the vibe of trying to showcase the league for other people at the expense of existing fans.

Well this isn't the States - And further to that, the CFL isn't even in the same stratosphere when it comes to the NFL. My season tickets on a per game basis is cheap than a DAZN subscription. Paying that, for one game a week? No thank you. The CFL should be making it easier for it's fans to consume the product, not more difficult.

These things have been years delayed. That's why that late push to the salary cap came after FA last year. The PA had just got the league financials from the year that gambling started bringing in revenue.
-

Not necessarily - the league revenue is reviewed at the end of each year and any increases go towards the next season. The increased TV revenue should mean more money for the players but it's up to the CFLPA to decide how they want to allocate it. They largely do put increases towards the cap though so I would expect another decent jump next year.

In a vacuum, I don't think I would mind this. I'd be able to appreciate the increased revenue and I might talk myself into the DAZN subscription (I used to have it to watch NFL but cancelled it to save money). I feel the same way about the play-off changes. I see a direct way that those changes benefit the league through increases revenue. But taken all together - and sandwiched around the changes to the field which have no ties to revenue at all - it's hard to swallow. It just feels like I'm being pushed out step by step. Me and my buddies are all guys in our 30's with young families who all have season tickets. But with each announcement, we all feel less and less excited about the future. I don't know how much more we're open to.

yeah...this is a significant increase...and with the new streams of rev coming in...and the rev sharing the players are coming out real good on this An increase in SMS is I sure gonna happen, and what I'd like to see is adding a few additional roster spots for game day, as it would increase the overall talent and depth if an injury, or 2 in game occurs. Regardless of how many, or how few eyes get the DAZN feed, it's gonna get new eyes, and it's also a far reaching streaming platform not only in N.America but abroad...it's a win even tho some people may have to watch a game on a delayed basis once it's over

If it was then Wilson is the biggest quitter of all time. I would think he and MOS's talk would have kept him in camp if it was expressed no decision on 2 had yet been made.

IPTV for me I guess. I have resisted this route for a long time but will have to now because I ain't shelling out 35 per month to watch 3-4 games. However, this is a huge windfall for the CFL, and was much needed.

CBC reporting that the new deal is worth 500 million or 83.3 million per year. That's a massive increase. Would the revenue share get the SMS up this year? If so, the SMS increase would be pretty large. The CFLPA has to be very happy today.
-
New TV Contract
Unfortunately, it takes Saturday night football off the table for regular CFL viewers unless they have that subscription.

I think DAZN is just happy to have yet another offering as part of their subscription service. They already have the NFL package, they may hope to draw some eyeballs from people just flipping through options on some nights. I think that's the CFL perspective as well.

If that number is anywhere near true, then all of a sudden Kenny Lawler's contract looks very good. I just can't see it though. That would more than double the existing TV deal. If so, the new commish deserves a ton of kudos for it. I agree that the QB number is doable if they keep Brown, which they likely do. A wild card is that they have 2 other QBs that have looked very impressive so far and they can likely only keep one of them unless they move Brown. A good QB prospect is going to shake loose out of Ottawa, maybe even 2 of them. Walters are you listening? Another possibility, I suppose, is that Dinwiddie is looking to showcase Maier in order to trade him? At any rate, this is wild speculation on my part at this point as Brown/Maier are likely to go nowhere for this season at least but it sure sets up a possibility of Brown being available next offseason IF Maier has indeed won QB1.

Basically their salaries are set with $521K in hard money for the 2 of them, plus about $60K of playtime incentives each. I doubt either one is getting cut so salarywise doesn't matter who plays. https://3downnation.com/2026/05/04/highest-paid-quarterbacks-for-2026-canadian-football-league-season/ 9) Dru Brown, Ottawa Redblacks (A) Hard money: $321,000 Maximum value: $387,000 Browns’s 2026 compensation comes from a $150,000 signing bonus, $131,000 base salary, $15,000 in marketing money, $15,000 in housing, and a $10,000 travel allowance. He has an additional $66,000 available in playtime, statistical, all-star and award incentives. 10) Jake Maier, Ottawa Redblacks (A) Hard money: $200,000 Maximum value: $263,000 Maier’s 2026 compensation comes from a $94,600 base salary, $75,000 signing bonus, $15,400 in housing, $7,500 travel allowance, and $7,5000 in marketing money. He has an additional $63,000 available in playtime, statistical and award incentives.

DAZN has 20 million subscribers globally. In Canada they are probably the best way to watch the NFL and Soccer so they should have a reasonable Canadian subscriber base. I can't imagine that people who only watch their own teams games will shell out 35/mo to catch the 2-4 games that get caught up in this. And if you enjoy watching all the games week over week 35 is still fairly steep They are definitely counting on existing subscribers to make it worth their while. CFL is a summer league so it could fill some of the gap for them between Club and European Soccer and the NFL

That would be worth the $35/month.....

yeah not cheap. I don’t mind if it’s got all the games, but i don’t want to be paying for tsn and dazn for cfl games. 500m over 6 years can’t be it that would be insane. I can’t imagine that dazn would over spend to invest in the cfl, when the changes coming next year are such a huge risk. I don’t either, but dinwiddie marches to the best of his own drum at qb. I suspect he wants to get a good look at mccheese, and wants brown to have to really scrap for the spot. If they do go with mccheese, browns deal isn’t crazy but they would be well off if they sit on brown and trade him early to mid season to a team with qb injuries/sever disappointments. I wouldn’t cut a qb like that. Look at the junk qb state the league is in, guy like brown has good value.
