Riders at Bombers early chat
HardCoreBlue replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Some people are just wired more than others to lead, to influence, to set the right vibe, to be the glue but all have to perform and if glue teammates stop performing they quickly outstay their welcome in any work environment. The advantage one sometimes have over non-sport environments is one can move the glue guy who can't perform anymore to the level needed into coaching/management positions. MOS has made it known though that players like JT have earned the right to go out on their own in ending their playing careers. Like I said my guess is MOS wants his legacy to reflect loyalty and respect to players who earned their stripes. Admirable. Comes with some opposite effects as does most decisions we make in life. -

3 keys - Bombs away, we need hamilton zach or old mop zach to show up. We need the win, but we also need a statement and a momentum building after last weeks bed crapping. WR step up, we've cycled through a bunch of guys and now with demski out, we need guys to step up more than ever. I expect a big game from wilson, but some one else needs to take the next step or two as well. Turnover battle, we have to win it. We've been crushed by the rate of our own failures this year, and we need to get past that immediately.

A great example of a glue guy, imo, is Sheed. He wasn't a top 3 WR, and he didn't need to be. He was the last imp wr on the roster, but after some early career struggles, was as reliable as can be, blocked his ass off, ran the sweep, and did all the little things extremely well. He was also a tremendous character guy, a leader, and a culture setter. Early on when he was fighting his hands he was on the verge of getting cut. And when we got to a point where we needed to save money and develop more young wrs he was gone. Imo, he was gone a bit too soon. But he brought a lot while he was here. You don't need that guy, but you sure are glad to have him when hes here.

I coached youth football for years, so I am definitely not an expert, or close, on anything related to football. But, the best teams I coached had the most talented players. Full stop. It was a bonus if those players also were "character, good in the room" guys, but often were not. And often the "character" players were great as back ups or positive energy bench guys. I posted before, a pro team can't be full of only narcissistic a-holes. But it needs elite talent, and if some of them are, that's why you're a pro coach! To manage egos, conflict, talent. This Bombers team is really lacking in elite talent. How many will make the all CFL team, or even West division all star team? The blame is shared between Walters, who has fallen asleep at the wheel, and Osh who seems to think character trumps talent. This is the least fun Bombers team to watch I've seen in 20 years. -
So after the Bombers win, what is the preferred outcome of the rest of the games? BC wins and puts Edmonton out of their misery? I think in this situation if Calgary goes 0-2 the Bombers can finish 2nd. BC Loses and Calgary Wins which means the Bombers can't get second but the Elks are mathematically eliminated? BC Loses and Calgary Loses and the Bombers have a chance to either host a home playoff game or be eliminated entirely based on Week 21? The Bombers have the tie break head-to-head against both the Lions and the Elks. In a three-way tie I think they come out ahead (Winnipeg 3-1, BC 2-3, Edmonton 2-3) but any tie breaker involving Calgary I think the Bombers lose because of the 0-3 debacle.

Weather likely to be a factor with wind and rain present for most of the day, then tapering off closer to kick off. Bombers need a win badly.... A Bombers win combined with an LOLks loss locks the Bombers in to at least the crossover and eliminates Edmonton.

Yeah you can't be a glue guy if you're not performing. Part of what makes a glue guy work is leading by example.

D Mills

They're both terrible
-
Tough night in Edmonton last week I went back through the game and broke down what really went wrong — from the turnovers to the missed tackles — and where Winnipeg needs to tighten up to bounce back Friday against the riders 🎥 Full breakdown here: Curious what other Bombers fans think: Was this just one bad game? Or are there deeper issues showing up this season? #ForTheW #BlueBombers #CFL

Former Bomber Terrence Jeffers Harris was in action in BC tonight. His fight is around the 9 minute mark. I'm actually surprised they allowed him to fight (watch the fight and you'll quickly understand).
-
I only know who that is from SNL making fun of him and his wife. Huge OLP fan tho so that'll be great...

Glue guys are supposed to be at least a C+ to B level of player. Rasheed Bailey was a glue guy who could elevate and make big plays and would consistently be a reliable player. You need guys like that to fill out the roster. Jake Thomas is a Damian Jackson guy who is nice but at most is a D+ level player who makes one play every month.
-
a well earned win
-
Jets making the most of their limited shots so far.
-
Not a fan but a sizeable act. Better than some bad modern country artist
-
his vets loved him, and guys loved playing on those teams. they were a serious draw to free agents. but at the same time, he kicked guys to the curb the moment they dropped off. didn’t matter what they did in the past or what they earned.
-
I’m not a fan of either pick, but I think mgk is a better fit with the target demo and players than country. I mean, I think he’s pretty close to pop country, but atleast he’s in a better direction. Pass thing, they shouldve done some staggered release of tickets and added more.
-
Pretty much this, for me. I was expecting some lame-ass country singer.

It's not country so I don't hate it but I'm definitely not a MGK fan. Was expecting worse TBH.
-
MGK. What a disappointment.
-
There was this coach who clearly valued talent. I mean the man once said that guys could play for him until he found somebody better. Who was that again? Oh yeah, 5 time Cup winner as a head coach, Don Matthews.
