Around The NHL 2016/2017

time for a new thread for a new season that begins today. Canada Day. Free Agent Frenzy.

Will the Jets trade Trouba?  Will they resign Scheif to an 8 year deal?

Will Boston, as heavily rumoured, offer sheet Trouba?  What about the rumours of the Jets in a three way deal with Edmonton and Avs?

Stay tuned!

  • What an idiot.  I have no patience for things like that.  Should be zero tolerance, 100-game ban for first offence, lifetime for second.  That's not an accident, that's not something that just happens

Yes, his company name is Black Knights as homage to Army Black Knights.  So Black Knights makes sense in that regard plus Vegas has some military connections.  But if its not Black Knights, then "Knights" makes little sense.  I wonder why Black Knights was rejected...unless the Army itself had an issue with its use.

Maybe its a play on Las Vegas nights?

Yeah...I dont mind that I guess.  if it was just "Knights" as a play on the "Nights" but giving it a clunky second word sort of removes the double meaning.  I guess people would call them the Snites without the first word.  That will be their nick name, the S'nites.

Its a shame the NHL wouldnt allow any play on gambling for the name since that's Vegas' major claim to fame.  Las Vegas Mobsters? lol

Foley announced earlier this month the team will be called the Silver Knights, Desert Knights, or Golden Knights.

Of those three and "Black Knights", they eliminated the best one.  What does "Knights" have to do with Las Vegas?

Golden Knights is the best one!

Personally I really don't care what they call the team. With that said tho... if it was me and I was starting a team in the nhl... and I was in a 2 worded city... Las Vegas Los Angeles San Francisco etc...

The last name of my team would not be 2 worded. It's just a little 2 wordy for my liking. Knights works. Las Vegas Knights. Sounds good. Why go with the 2 worded last name when you are a 2 worded city. Just sounds so stupid

Bandits

Get it? One-armed bandits.

Las Vegas Sin...a rare team name not ending in an s.

37 goals last year without Crosby. He's a solid piece.

He is. Will he be when he's 36 when the deal is done tho? I'd take him on my team in a second tho for sure. Guy you love to hate. Every team needs those guys.

NHL defenceman Barret Jackman retired Tuesday after signing a one-day contract with the St. Louis Blues. St. Louis drafted the Trail, B.C., native 17th overall in 1999 after four standout years with the WHL's Regina Pats.

Connor McJesus named captain of the Oilers. 45 games into career. New NHL record?

McDavid - 19 years and 266 days old.  Previous was Landeskog at 19 years and 286 days old.

He's the youngest captain in league history so there's a record right there.  I would assume 45 games is also a record but everyone knew this was coming.  Chiarelli basically said as much in the off season & Taylor Hall said he was the leader on the ice by the end of last season.

Wonder if this guy can resurrect his career with a change in scenery.

Has to be considered a bust after being drafted 1st overall.

Last chance before he heads to the KHL, major disappointment after his first season.

Just what St. Louis needed, another soft forward.  We'll see if he can find some chemistry with Tarasenko.

A former 1st overall for a former 4th and a conditional 3rd...what does that say about Yak?

Im sure they are considering this a win in EDM. Good luck STL.
