Anyone else hear about this? Apparently it's gold jersey night tonight. Does that mean it's the old all golds? Or just the away jerseys?

What do you think the chances are that I could convince the Bombers to play the Jets game on the Jumbotron. And if they did, what would be the percentage of people watching the live game or the screen?

Well they only use a third of the new screen anyway, so the odds may be in your favour.

I just sold my Jets tickets for tonight, I have freebies to the Bomber game so I think I'm gonna go.

The reality is they just probably did inventory and went "holy **** we have a ton of these ugly jerseys left over"

I received an email from Bombers only 3 days ago regarding this initiative:

 

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are asking fans to “Go Gold” on September 25^th by wearing gold jerseys in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Gold is the symbol of the fight to end childhood (pediatric) cancers, which are diagnosed in 1500 kids each year.

 

This game will mark the third season the Bombers have supported Childhood Cancer Awareness month by partnering with Ribbons for Rylan, a non-profit organization that fundraises for CancerCare Manitoba Pediatrics, The Children’s Hospital Foundation and The Dream Factory.  This is the first year the team will ask fans to wear gold, while showing their own support through an addition to the Bombers uniform kit.

 

“For the first time, our team will wear a gold ribbon decal on their helmets to bring awareness to this worthwhile cause. We are thrilled to be able to support Childhood Cancer Awareness month in this way, and are confident fans will ‘Go Gold’ with us on September 25^th,” said Hannah Rose Pratt, Winnipeg Blue Bombers Manager of Community Relations.

 

In addition to wearing gold jerseys, fans can support the campaign by purchasing a gold hat in the Bomber Store, as the Bombers will donate $5.00 from each gold hat purchased to Ribbons for Rylan.  Ribbons for Rylan is a group of family and friends raising funds and awareness to help fight childhood cancers; Rylan was a special boy who was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer when he was one year old, and passed away just before his second birthday.

 

To further support the campaign to cure childhood cancers, the Bombers have donated 200 tickets to the September 25^th home game to host families battling childhood cancers and life-threatening illnesses. The team visited the CK5 Pediatric Cancer ward at the Children’s Hospital on September 21^st as a part of the Bombers’ regular monthly visits to meet families and sign autographs for children and youth who are hospitalized.

On Friday, The Dream Factory and Ribbons for Rylan will have Childhood Cancer Awareness tables in the Tailgate at the Plaza by Duraco Windows before the game (outside of Gate 2 at the corner of Chancellor Matheson Road and University Crescent), along with volunteers collecting donations throughout the stadium.

I get what a lot of you are saying...and I understand, to a degree, but man....I think about the offseason and how much it sucks with no games on, and I treasure each and every week of Bombers football. I've got the PVR set for tonight, and I'm gonna race home from work to catch it. Whisky ready to pour. I just can't bear to ever miss a game. Don't get me wrong, I'll have the Jays game on "Last Channel" (Unfortunately no coverage of the Oilers game out here...) but the Bombers is my #1 priority. We only get so much Bombers ball, no matter how bad you might think the season is, gotta treasure each game. Hopefully at least a decent game and not a blowout at half time...

Can someone donate to that online?

I agree 100%. That's why I'm going to the game tonight. Bombers are still in it. We're due for one upset this year.

I can appreciate that, but the off season doesn't seem that long to me anymore, especially with the NHL going till June.

I used to think the same way you did. Now Bomber games are just sort of a task rather than being a highlight of the week.

I get the CFL itch around May, it ends around September, usually.

Ya, and I can understand the apathy that leads to that, I suppose, but I guess I'm just not there yet...not sure I ever could be. Win or lose, I absolutely love watching CFL ball and especially Bombers ball. I like hockey for sure, but CFL/Bombers and Curling (I know, I know...) will always be ahead of that for me, personally. But, again, I totally get some people's apathy at this point...

I never thought I would come to this forum on a game day and find so many people so down.  It is a truly sad state of affairs when an organization seems to be bent on doing all it can to alienate the very best of its supporters. Unfortunately the only way it seems to respond is when it looses a bunch of money at the gate. There got to be a better way to get a message across. We're 10 points underdog in our own barn.
