2015 NHL Free Agency

Separate thread here as Free Agency is pretty much a week away.

An interesting tidbit in recent Free Press article:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/Burmistrovs-future-big-storyline-for-Jets-at-draft-309360161.html

We’re all dealing with trying to sign RFAs or UFAs and not having a solid number in front of you makes things a little bit difficult, difficult from a signing standpoint and difficult from a player agreeing standpoint. Everyone wants to know what might be available out there for him. We’re entering another unique part of the CBA where you have an interview period which starts on Thursday (where teams can ‘court’ prospective free agents in advance ot the market opening on July 1st). That’s a different phenomenon that we’re all learning the ins and outs from that standpoint. I guess once all things come into play and now you know you’re number, you can really start making your final plans for how you can move forward."

So while I know that talks with Frolik have apparently begun to "heat" up, if we don't get a deal done by Thursday he will be able to start getting a feel for what kind of money and term other teams would be willing to give him.

Must be the busiest time of the year for GMs with the Draft this weekend and Free Agency soon after.

With GMs able to talk to agents on Thursday, and pretty much all agents and GMs being at the draft, I expect a huge flurry of singings July 1st when they can officially submit contracts.

  • Are you serious with this statement?

  • 5 years from now you'll be telling us we shouldn't be signing Mark Scheifele to an 8 year extension because he'll be 35 at the end of it. When does it end? When can we start thinking about the prese

Dallas? Lol. Niemi sucks

Dallas puck stopping tandem is better than most of the western conference.

Which Western teams do you think they have better goaltending than?

Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Phoenix, San Jose, St. Louis, Vancouver, Winnipeg

They have almost 10 million in goaltenders and both aren't very good actually. Niemi has regressed big time and Lehtonen while good, is very injury prone. I'm not worried about the stars goaltending at all.

Honestly, I don't even think it's as much about goaltending as it is about playing good strong defensive hockey. Dallas has tons of fire power, aging fire power at that but.. they lack the ability to actually play D. Niemi doesn't change things, actually he might be worse than he was last year with San Jose.

Don't think that you're giving Dallas credit for there off season moves which i believe are enough to get them into the post season

They made more last year and still didn't get in cuz they can't play D and their goaltending sucks.. None of that changed.

Yep we heard this exact same refrain last off-season.

6 yrs / 40.5M deal for Giordano in Calgary. Lower aav than I expected. He'll be pretty old when it's over so I suspect it's as front loaded as is allowed.

Not too surprised. They made it to the 2nd round without him :) So much for my Buff for Giordano trade.

@MSmithCanes: #Canes, Elias Lindholm agree to two-year contract extension. $2.5 million in 2016-17, $2.9 million in 2017-18. More: http://t.co/ILLjlR8cAE

So, he was on an ELC and he re-signed an extension one year prior to his ELC expiring. Am I right?

@theScore: Sabres are reportedly offering UFA defenseman Cody Franson a 2-year contract. http://t.co/TLrLTIgCbghttp://t.co/FwDFDR7OVU

Replacement for Myers.

Except franson sucks and was exposed big time when on the Preds

Reports of 10m over 2 years? Wow.

Looks like the Jets may have found their backup for the Moose signing journeyman goalie David Leggio to a PTO

We have one already.  Comrie, Eric.

Might mean they are shipping pav

Comrie will probably play in the ECHL to get in as many games as possible.

Really? That's the first I've seen that suggestion. For me, the talent drop off is too great there. Besides, in 4 seasons in the WHL he only averaged 42 games. To me, 30-34 starts in the AHL is better than 60 in the ECHL.

Insurance in case Halle beats Hutch for the back up job?

As per his wiki "On July 1, 2015, the Jets signed Jussi Olkinuora, to play for the AHL Manitoba Moose for the 2015-16 season."

Comrie will get max games in ECHL, Helly will max games with Moose, Olkinuora is signed backup, Leggio is signed PTO and has to beat Olkinuora for backup spot. Comrie needs to keep progressing and he wont do that sitting on the Moose bench,as Helly will play 3/4 of the games

Pavs and Buff with De Leo, and a 1st for OEL!!!!!!!!!!!

Chipman was on 1290 and said both Buff and Ladd had expressed "strong" desire to stay here.

He also reiterated rhe Jets draft and develop model. I just don't see how buff fits in.

So did Frolik.

Is there a team in the league that does not draft and develop?

Being anal aside, this is the owner of the team making remarks about the team.  It has merit.  I dont believe Chipman is a liar so lets assume both players want to play here.  Had one player, say Buff, expressed a desire to get paid or else, I doubt Chipman would have said what he did.

Part of the Jets' draft & develop mantra is the idea they are not going to spend an infinite amount of money.  So when he says that it's an acknowledgment of the potential in choosing to get younger over getting better.
