Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

 

Anyone else into this?

 

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

 

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

 

House of Cards was tremendous.

 

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

 

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

 

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

Apparently she got mercilessly booed by all 2,500 people in there, and barely looked up from her notes on the podium to address the audience.

Quebec, BC and Ontario have been ahead of the game for a long. Alberta learned too and are way ahead of the remaining provinces.

Took forever to get direct L.A. flights to and from Winnipeg.  That was definitely a hinderance to expansion.

I assume this a rarity, but I have a moral problem with some of what goes on. A couple months ago, we were informed that a local soup kitchen wouldn't be needing our weekly contribution - because some scenes were being shot in the building.

That's not good. I wonder why? Did they close the soup kitchen or just decline your contribution? That would be up to the owners of the building.

Meh. Honestly, most of the people coming here are not coming from LA. I know that Gov't bent over backwards and put up a lot of money to buy that route and played it up.  But when I was at the table, the biggest concerns were ensuring the stability of the tax credit and attracting investors and movie suppliers, like William H. White. More sound stages were the next thing on the industries wishlist. 

Maybe we've reached a threshold where we really need that direct route but that's a measure of success.

The soup kitchen was closed for that period of time.

They normally stop by our colony to pick it up - one of the volunteers lives locally

Having played both games recently, I can confirm that it's been pretty bang on to the source material so far.  Some minor changes but that's inevitable so no complaints from me.  I was skeptical of Bella Ramsey playing Ellie but so far so good.  They told both leads not to watch any of the game stuff, so they can make the characters their own. Both admit to checking some stuff out so I'm sure that is one reason why it's been so similar to the game (at least from a character standpoint).

The 90’s show gets better. Leah starts to shine once away from her parents and there are a few very funny moments reminiscent of the original.

Lots of buzz around this Rian Johnson/Natasha Lyonne "Poker Face" right now, so we watched the first couple (streaming only on CityTV+ via Prime Video) and it's full marks for all the rave reviews so far. Really really good show. 

If anyone wants an insight into the US conspiracy movement, watch "Shadowland" on the history channel.

@Noellerthanks for the heads upon Poker Face. Watched all 4 of the episodes that are out and it’s excellent.
