Major Football Ops Announcement @ 12:30 Today: Mike O'Shea New Bombers HC

No word on what but I'm guessing we announce our coach.

EDITED to clarify it IS the HC announcement.

Multiple sources citing it will be Mike O'Shea

  • Loved the comments about how if guys are making the same mistakes over and over again it's a coaching problem. Nice change from Burke just throwing guys under the bus in that situation

  • Wanted this to be O'Shea... Because I have pounded away on the forums, for years...on the need for direction ,leadership and accountability from the HC slot.. Might finally get it...

Was the word of Cortez getting another interview not that it would be later this week? Interesting.

Word will leak soon enough. If it's HC he must be in town or arriving in the morning.

Anyone spot anyone around town today?

Lawless just said "this week". It could have already happened.

Khari? Cortez? O'Shea? Marcel? This should be interesting.

Well, if it's our new HC at least we beat Ottawa who've had like a year to find someone...

Buckle up blue bombers fans. The new era begins today while I try to confirm new head coach I know who I hope it isn't

that doesnt sound promising

CJOB confirming announcement is new head coach.

I don't know why but I have a bad feeling about this. I don't think the new coach is my first choice.

wow. no leaks or anything? winnipeg media surely lagging on this one.

I'm thinking it's a bit more than head coach. Maybe coach + assistant HC.

The ballroom at the Fairmont is a little unusual for an announcement like this, either they're really rolling out the red carpet or it's a bigger announcement than we could normally expect.

Don't be surprised if Saskatchewan media leaks this. If it's Cortez or Khari, I bet they find out first.

The Rash says:

BREAKING: Multiple #CFL sources tell me the next head coach of the Winnipeg Blue #Bombers is #Argos assistant Mike O'Shea.

Good.

If for no other reason than that means Walters got his guy.

I'm really pleased with this. I do hope Miller can finagle Cortez into the mix.

Knowing Wade the way I do, I guarantee he has been selling Georgie very hard....

Been a solid week in Bomberland. Maybe I'll give the season ticket renewal office a call with my credit card # today?

Really impressed if it is O'Shea, with Walters sticking to his guns.

Would be even more impressed today if we OC and DC as well.  Get the framework all setup so we can go into the dispersal draft with most coaching positions settled.

Is the consensus that we want O'Shea as HC and Cortez as OC?  Does that freeze Khari out or might he come in as QBC?

Any thoughts on DC?  Someone with a relationship with O'Shea?

  • Author

I highly, HIGHLY doubt it's Cortez as offensive coordinator.

I'm thinking for O'Shea's staff, you're going to see Khari or Marcus Brady as the OC. As for DC, I have no idea.

Mike do you think Cortez would consider if if they make him OC *and* associate Head Coach or something like that?

  • Author

Possibly. I just don't think they can outbid Saskatchewan.

Not because they're not willing to spend but because Saskatchewan will be pretty much forced to one up any offer for Cortez. He's priceless for that team.

Doug Brown likes it:

O'Shea has all the qualities you want in a head coach. Well respected, authoritative, ballsy, and a true leader. Well done Miller.

Irving and Lawless also now convinced it's O'Shea.  Hope his flight isnt delayed...

He's already here ;)

I love this.  O'Shea has been my number one pick all along.

Interesting side note, is there any staff more Canadian than the Bombers' now?  Miller, Walters, Goveia, O'Shea... not that being Canadian means anything football-wise, I just think it's neat.

Any chance the announcement has anything to do with the city being awarded the Grey Cup? Normally a coaching hire announcement is just made in the Bombers media room at the stadium. Something seems strange about having a big press conference at the Fairmont unless it was big news involving the city...
