If we can pair Cortez up with a solid d-cordinator I'm down for giving him the job. He gets a bad rap because of what happened in Hamilton, but the offence was in the top two, and Creehan was the d-cordinator at the time, and we all saw what Creehan did here with the defence.

Agreed. Although I made fun of all the "Cortez is sooo cerebral" nonsense, he is a very good offence-mind. Which we could use. 

 

In a perfect, "never gonna happen" world I'd have O'Shea as my HC and Cortez as my OC.

As I said in the GM thread a while back, I am just glad they are actually interviewing more then one person!!  I like how they are actually looking for a good fit and for someone who will be sucessful here.  Not just promote the next water boy to be HC!

It will be interesting to see if Wpg or Ottawa hire first. Some of the candidates might prefer one job over the over but might have to decide first. A bit of poker and a bit of chess....or might it be chicken?

I wouldn't say you're wrong, but what makes you think Cortez would value Burris (who probably only has another year or two in the tank) over Collaros or any of the other FA QB's? Just because he went out and got him in 2012? Wasn't Burris simply the best available option at the time?

Why? Because he's a free agent? Based on that logic (and more logically IMO) it would mean the team goes hard after Drew Willy. He has familiarity with the system, he's a polished passer, and he isn't 39 by kickoff next June.

I'm on team Cortez - have been for awhile now.

He's worked with some of the best QB's out there, and I think he'd do wonders with a guy like Collaros or Willy.

Surround him with the right staff, and he'll flourish.

Cause they've got such a history in Calgary and Hamilton and he's the only real veteran option that's going to be a free agent, and because they had such a good offence together in Hamilton... Walters won't allow Burris to come here, he isn't stupid.

More than ever, after listening to the latest presser, I'm convinced that he will let his HC make the decision who he wants as QB going forward.

Now, as to how much this factors into picking the HC….that is a different matter.

Burris would be a good qb option as long as you have colloras (sp?) coming in as well.  Burris would make the team instantly better in the short term, but you also need the replacement ready to come in soon.

 

I wouldn't be upset with Burris.. I want our QB spot to improve immensely. Burris would be a good step.. but so would some other QBs coming onto the market.

True, but other than Collaros, is there anyone you'd rather have here than Burris?  I think he's a good plan B.

Sure, that's what the #2 and 3 spots are for.

The thought of Cortez and Burris putting up 2012-esque numbers together in Blue and Gold is pretty intriguing... but what I really want is a promising QB on the upswing of his career, not one that affords us a year or two at best.
