Post (game) review - interesting observation edition

Harris is a whiney baby, and a real baby cat....as the actual word will get censored.

Team came out actually prepared but there were some moments again in the Jekyll and Hyde mode but for most part we weathered it and as seen when you roster the best roster you can (save for C) and use guys in roles best suited for them, (more on that later) you get what we saw.

Boys actually brought the intensity and played with anger. Especially on defense...Kramdi return obviously fueled that somewhat, prob his best game ever but he was also used differently and more where I have said he would thrive...mucking it up lower in the box...coming down hill and pressing the l.o.s...Was minimal in coverage and it was effective, as he sucks in coverage and before the yeah butter's say he got in INT...yeah he did...but was from just being in space and ball just popped over to him...He had poor coverage on the actual reciever, not sure who he was even covering to be honest but good on him being alert and ready. My only criticism of him is sure he made a couple impact plays but the dude needs to really learn to tackle and wrap a guy up and not dive at shins or torpedo into upper bodies...He had at least 3 plays again where he did that and the guys justkept on goin as he bounced off...Gotta fixtah up but not sure if he can/will as its been his technique since day one...But his addition back to defence definitely made us better...Now lets punt kelly off...And as mentioned in convoy with Griffin he says he will be back "soon" so hopefully it gets Kelly to the bench, especially as we dont need that as a Ratio need

Like the role now Younger has put Jones in...He got exposed a few times but inconsequential, but like Kramdi he has been limited on his drops and cover responsibilities and been allowed to just get at it...and he plays a bit like a knob..as does Kramdi and we need that as it permeates thru the defence...Jones new responsibilities totally coincide with Smith's play and his ability to crash the line and play inside...obliterate the run but also can cover a teams top slot...And as you can see is an extremely smart player and soaks up coaching like a sponge and doesn't make repeat errors...You can see it in his play as the season advances...we need to extend him pronto before he is gonna be commanding more loot...and or be a hot FA target

Younger has been slowly morphing the defense but also seeing what pieces fit best where so needs to be kept up....With Wiliams being an absolute baller,,,Vaval showing he can be that other aggressive corner, and hopefully Griffin back sooner than later we have makings of a real good defense.

Osh put together a good squad for this game...and actually had his head in it too and utilized his challenge without hesitation for once and generally had his team engaged....Props to him there, my only critique is when you finally roster legit DA's...actually use them! Jaworski and Womack played teams and I saw good things there...Womack got few snaps on offence but I don't recall seeing Jaworski but maybe missed his snaps...none the less was our best lineup all yr...

Offence....hmmmmm...TC is a guy who I don't think even has a game plan or any sequencing of plays that make any sense...Just spit balling and tossing things out there

I really liked that we actually went to some true sprint outs where ZC would totally change launch point well away from anyone....and trickery on the Oline to draw defense totally away from =him...and some milder roll outs...and was effective...The Neild TD being a perfect example...then would go to static drop back plays where we got killed...and he just kept doing it...Like dude are you even watching?? When we use the oline in sync with BO...and with multiple slide protections and movin the launch points...we are pretty efficient...so to keep straying way from it when teams aren't adapting is just poor coaching and makes zero sense

And i gonna keep saying the majority of the issues is center and his inability to set the line up properly, plus he gets beaten physically too easily as well, but with a rookie American center who is seeing things for first time...would anyone expect anything better than what we seeing..There is a reason you never see Import centers, especially as a rookie...Just plain dumb coaching. We had a guy Ibisi who did it...But he was a brute..aggressive and athletic...not to mention mean...but please someone list all the great Import centers in last 20+ yrs....I'll wait

Some here say ELI sucks...based on what..when has he been given a 2..3 game run....never...when he has been dropped in with no reps during the week he has been just fine and no worse than anyone else....and again before the yeah buts start their retort sure he has been here a few yrs but the coaches absolutely love what he can do in the extra guy role, and he can play guard if need be so they pidgoen holed him there...and when ole Kolo was here he was a poor choice as 6th as all he was was a middling center and offered no real coverage.

Until I see a block of games where he looks worse than anyone ever as some suggest...then I will maybe change the opinion but the opinion he isnt starting cause Osh and his "staff" want someone else holds no weight, as we have seen in multiple positions a lesser skilled guy play over the better one, and or allowed to just be mediocre and suck cause thats just who they like...we seeing it now....

None the less if we can actually build on this ...which is almost 2.5 great complete games outta the last 4 then optimism should be there and second place should be totally doable, it's all up to the coaching now to get us there....From what I seen from Edm game to the last one the trend "looks" moe to be an upward one...but that also has coincided too with some player changes...and usage...Shouldnt have took 13 games tho to realize it.

Ohh...forgot about my thoughts re:offence...ZC doesnt have the arm now to make the forced tight throws into double/trip0le coverage, and also to me it seems he is having processing and decision making issues upstairs...has he taken too many shots?...is he playing panicked..compromised?..Unsure but he's too experienced, and he's also way too intelligent to be making rookie type mistakes out there...Something aint right....But....If we use the system we did where we have success with Dru....moving the pocket all over...sprint outs...roll outs designed with actual receivers on both sides of center...we'd be just fine if ZC is out long term and Brown would thrive in that...Does TC see that tho....thats the big assed question

Oh and I made it home safe and sound...Never got beat up by any bully...lol...

@SpeedFlex27 tho said he was gonna toss me around tho and to smarten up when we met up hahaah...

I agree totally when our defence plays a bit nasty we get lots better results. Jones did that in the Montreal game and really threw Alexander off his game, and this game with him and Kramdi disrupting it put Harris off his game too, you could see little things like timing of throws and just being off target enough at the right time. Don't have to play dirty to injure or anything, but being a wee bit chippy sure doesn't hurt.

yeh he even tried some physicality too....well as best he could lol

But it is an infectious thing on a defence

Lots of talk about Kramdi's impact. Which was great. But I honestly thought the Defences performance against MTL was better, especially when you consider the overall talent of both Offences. Bombers gave up a lot more points against MTL but that's too be expected. They made Alexander look more uncomfortable and frustrated than any other team before that. And looks like they laid a blueprint on how to do it, because BC's Defence did the same this weekend.

Oh also...Vaval needs to be a starting defensive back. The guy closes so damn fast. Go find another returner.

I know the old-timers here will agree with me - but this was what those legendary Bomber defences in the 1980's always did to opponents. I've talked to old CFL vets and they absolutely HATED playing against Winnipeg. I remember Chris Schultz talking about this too, how the Argos just plain hated playing the Bombers. Tyrone Jones lived rent free in QB's heads in those days. By the end of the first half, every QB looked like Dane Evans in the 2019 Grey Cup, with tears in their eyes at the constant harassment and being rag-dolled. If we can get to half that level of intensity, this defence will be formidable.

Kramdi really helped set the tone for physical play. And Jones being a dink to the opposition every time it a good thing too. Get that nasty edge going. Make it a slog for offenses. We all saw Harris with his palms up and lower lip dropping but another guy who did not enjoy his experience was Johnson (the good one). He had a miserable experience that game and I love that for him and the riders

yeh points allowed not necessarily the indicator for the better performance...same can be said with an offence too....it's all game dependent and circumstance related

Mtl game was a more dominant performance I think...based soley on the fact it was all mtl's legit starters...and Alexander is a way better QB and harder to reign in

Sask had for most part 3 or 4 3rd stringers at reciever and missing starting RB tho they prob better with the guy they used and Oullette is way over rated...always knicked...and is an all or nothing kinda RB....And the nothings out weight the alls

All that said if we can get the defense to look/play/act loke half the Edm game...the Mtl game and the second Ssk game....we are gonna be doing pretty good...And really if not for some weakness in coaching and decisions in the LDC we prob shoulda won that game...

D was fine on labour day too IMO. Just the offense hung them out to dry entirely

yup......AND IF we could have pulled that one out we would be sitting in a damned nice position....would have put a different complexion on the whole season.....Would' ves and should'ves though......

If they'd somehow managed to get wins vs. Edmonton and sweep the riders they'd be sitting pretty.

Thanks for your assessment. I've been an Eli fan for a long time, and it makes no sense to me that Elsbury is playing ahead of him. I think big Stan And ZC have both surpassed their best before dates. I'm wondering about Vaval. Most of his returns seemed to be him running right into traffic. Is it on him, or the blockers? And totally agree that Vaval should be playing more D.

My concern is that Vaval will sustain a season/career ending injury returning kicks and then we will lose both our kick returner and good cornerback.

If hes playing defense full time, he should only be returning punts.

I’ve heard around these parts for years that db’s are a dime a dozen. I’d hate to lose Vaval as a special teamer it’s a huge part of our game, ie instant field position.

we just need to stop signing vet DBs and just trust our scouting.... it's the only position group our management seems to be reliably good at scouting... and the only position group that is all scouting and draft... would we even have benched the useless Moxey and seen how much better Texada is without the injury?

Wonder if this is Danny Mac's forte since we've turned over our entire scouting department except for him but DB has been a long standing strong point for us? Or are they just easier to find/scout?

nope

If you look at returners there is maybe a 4 yard cushion between him and really the worst consistent returner.

Is he a good enough defender to give up roughly 4 yards of field position per return?

here's all I want in a returner - DON'T FUMBLE - everything else is gravy.

I'm a lover not a fighter. Especially when I know I'd get my ass kicked. Nah, it was great meeting you.

I've met Johnzo and Brandon at different times over the years, and had a great time with Bluto at the 2011 Grey Cup. Biggest regret - I really wish I could have met Ritch Dowrey in person.

He was a character.

Interesting to see how certain teams/players behave when faced with unexpected adversity. Perfectly exemplified by Montreal/Alexander and Sask/Harris. During their losing efforts with the Bombers it seemed like there wasn't a play that went by for either team where someone wasn't whining for a penalty or complaining about something.

No matter how bad things have gotten this year for the Blue we have not seen that kind of whiny attitude from them. Small mercy but an appreciated one nonetheless.
