25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

So what is this place going to talk about when Elgerwhateverhisnameawa joins the club and then gets immediately cut as TCF?

I have never seen so much conversation about someone who has done absolutely nothing.

At that point we clearly will be talking about the TC MVP, who will be cut before he can be handed the trophy.

I don't see any great football names as of yet. So I'm pulling for it to be major williams so we can have some major paine gifs in chat when he makes plays

You're right about that.

Elgersma watch continues.

Depth chart for Week two has him at QB2 and Hiers at QB3. No news of his visa status or what happened to the QB the Stallions signed for Week 1. Is he actually allowed to play or is UFL being bush League and not checking things against real life? I guess we'll find out Sunday

Elgersma listed as inactive unsurprisingly. Has missed 20% of the UFL season waiting for his visa.

if not more

The visa ain’t coming.

yep. I wonder if the team knows that. He's getting some thing now atleast for development. Not just sitting on a couch waiting for a call and doing the odd work out.

and doing it all for free lol

The visa ain't coming .....and neither Is Elgersma, at least here, up till this point in time....The kid is floating in limbo that could last for a long time...Hardly a way to take care of your future

Training camp comes and he is still not here, then i write him off, till then who cares? He is doing this on his own dime.

If he doesn't get another NFL camp invite, he should be here for camp. He got a lot of workouts and no offers. It's hard to say if that's a good thing for camp, but it sure seems like a bad thing for him since he doesn't have one currently.

If he doesn't have a plan to be here for camp and doesn't have an NFL camp invite, I'd be shopping his rights hard. If he gets another NFL offer, I'd be shopping his rights soft and be looking to flip him as soon as he was willing to come up mid-season.

Mid-season QB drought is real. Having a guy like him is an asset to a desperate team.

I'm not losing my mind over his lingering down south. The amount of time he's spent out of football and off the field, the time it's been since he played a regular-season game, all of this reduces his value to me. You expect a Canadian QB who played CIS ball to be up here fairly quickly if you draft him. Choosing to sit out for workouts, a UFL non-roster spot, and NFL combine cup holder raises red flags about his intangibles. And he needs to be a high-intangible guy to succeed.

He's a depreciating asset hiding behind some smoke and mirrors. The whole thing hasn't come apart, but it isn't far from happening.

It is far more concerning to me that we gambled a 2nd on this guy and didn't seem to have a hot clue about this.

Dude just turned 24. He was drafted less than a year ago.

and has proven nothing other than success at the CIS level....no offense to the cis and canadian athletes but that' a big whuppty do...especially for a QB....Just look at Ford recently...and he has a way better game with his legs that Elgersma and he was putrid.

He's 24 sure...but has wasted a good 2 yrs so far in his development curve up here where he could actually amount to something....so he is just further delaying his development and future earning potential.....He is never....ever gonna get a spot in the NFL other than a PR spot and thats a stretch...and if his mindset and attitude is one where that is cool with him, and has no desire other than that...get the hell ouuta here then and move his ass for picks, or an asset. I have no desire for a Canadian QB whatsover anyway, and why would you want a inferior pivot....and no ability to back him up with one??...

A Nathan Rourke is a unicorn and is a Canadian by birth only....he was developed and trained and learned his craft in the U.S for the yrs that matter .....Elgersma hasnt...he excelled against a buttload of players who once their senior yr ended will never ever strap on a helmet again...

Wbb is not wrong on his asset value diminishing if he's not with us this year. It's not about ability orpotential, it's about other teams knowing we are having a hard time/inability to get him under contract. We would not be trading from a position of strength

I'm not saying he's going to be anything but the handwringing over him trying to make it down south is nuts. It hasn't been 2 years yet because he was drafted less than a year ago. If he sits out a whole year again then ya he's wasted 2 years.

Whether or not he is a capable of being a CFL QB or not is not the only factor. If he won't sign with us we can either hold his rights and make an example out of him or be forced to move him for pennies on the dollar. Either way some bad draft preparation and due diligence by the GM who took two years off.

He's going to get the same CFL contract no matter how long he waits.
