25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

Which CFL team has an heir apparent in place for their starting QB right now?

Arguably Hamilton (at least for the time being) with Taylor Powell.  Similar to our situation with Zach and Dru, Powell may need to leave to get a shot at starting because BLM keeps extending his career.

My 2 cents ......we shouldn't look to allocate money to our LB corpse, we have some pieces already to be good....we should be allocating that money along the d-line....not sure who may still be available come FA, but the way I look at it, is the more we spend on DB,LB the less we have to spend along the D-line.....

At minimum, we should be tied with Edmonton. At most we should be second with 15. I won't get into why we're not. But hey, our coach is a nice guy. Everybody says it.

The gappers only need our team to fold, and if they keep winning cups at their current rate in 200 years they will tie us. Let that sink in sister lovers.

In all honesty Brown hasn't earned his money either. He wouldn't have played more than 5 games behind our OL. He is injury prone.

Glass qb? I also don't like his seemingly laissez faire attitude on the field. He just chills his way thru games with no emotion. Stays mellow the whole time while inspiring no one. Like he smokes doobies in a van down by the river.

I can recall conversations like that about Khari Jones. Until he was no longer available. Kevin Glenn too...

I  dunno, Brown just gives off a weird vibe to me. I like to see qbs take on a leadership role. Guys don't have to be screaming, pounding their chest or slapping guys on the helmet  but they need to find ways to inspire through their play. Brown is a skilled player who hasn't done that. Two seasons as the starter & Crum has played more than Brown. He may even be better than Brown. C rum's play has grown by leaps & bounds. With Dinwiddie, he may really develop.

https://3downnation.com/2026/01/03/exclusive-bo-levi-mitchell-contract-details-for-2026-cfl-season-with-hamilton-tiger-cats/

Quote

Bo Levi Mitchell left money on the table but negotiated a $100,000-plus raise to play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2026.

The six-foot-one, 210-pound QB received a $210,000 signing bonus to ink his two-year extension with the Ticats. He has a $210,000 base salary, $40,000 in marketing money, $15,300 for housing and a $10,000 travel allowance to equal $485,300 in hard money.Mitchell also has $30,000 available in incentives, which can be unlocked if he makes the active roster and plays one snap in 16 games. Should he achieve that bonus, his total for 2026 would top out at $515,300.

The 35-year-old ranks fifth after B.C.’s Nathan Rourke, Toronto’s Chad Kelly, Winnipeg’s Zach Collaros and Calgary’s Vernon Adams Jr. among starting quarterbacks for financial compensation in 2026. Ottawa’s Dru Brown, Saskatchewan’s Trevor Harris and Edmonton’s Cody Fajardo are behind him.

Walters...and Osh too by extension need to look at roster...positions..who may be available and who "should" be resigned and act accordingly to maximize roster..and knowing Cdn players can be at a premium for established as to where to pay the premium...The Kramdi deal is just dumb...can be played by a player for 100k less and played better...that's one of the cdn players they need to know when to move on from...BO..Demski..Lawson...guys like that you pay for..tho id like BO to have been less as they would be missed and are key parts...Kramdi is not..if he was gone we'd be no worse for wear and he would be an after thought and not missed

But...now he is likely gonna be one our highest paid defenders...that's insane..more than Nichols who is way more valuable...and does Nichols bump..kramdis bs deal mean adios Holm...who both of should be making more...but won't be, thankfully as their combined hit if he is reupped will a huge anchor elsewhere...we need to know when and where to cut the chord

Ottawa Senators played in the CFL......Can't remember that ....Renegades were replaced by the Sens I guess....Doesn't anyone proof read their stuff anymore...AND maybe we're 3rd in  Cup wins all time BUT we've been in more Cup games than any other club in the league

This was likely before the implementation of a "CFL" back when the GC was just a challenge trophy for all kinds of teams (mostly Eastern) who always had to play off against Toronto, who got an automatic bye every year. I don't know this for a fact, but I would not be surprised if there was an Ottawa Senators FC back in the very early days. Similar to Winnipeg being the Pegs. What is odd is that they don't list all the variations of the Toronto teams over the years...

The Toronto Argonauts never got a bye. The WIFU & IRFU had to play a challenge game against the ORFU teams in Ontario in the playoffs. I don't believe they challenged every year especially toward the end in the 1950's but the ORFU did win twice when Sarnia made it ito the Grey Cup in 1934 & 36 by defeating the Regina Roughriders & Toronto Argonauts.

By the mid 1950's, the WIFU said they no longer wanted to play ORFU teams in the playoffs as they became non competitive with the WIFU teams. Playoff scores were very one sided for the Western teams. The ORFU protested that decision with the CRFU siding with the senior men's league from Ontario. In response, this caused a rift with both the WIFU & IRFU. They withdrew from the Canadian Rugby Football Union in 1957 creating the Canadian Football Council in 1957 & then merged to form the CFL in 1958.

The ORFU was no longer allowed to compete with CFL teams for the Grey Cup as it belonged strictly to the CFL.  By 1960, the ORFU became a junior league in Ontario but finally ceased operations in 1974.

WIFU: Western Interprovincial Football Union: BC Lions, Edmonton Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders & Winnipeg Blue Bombers

IRFU:  Interprovincial Rugby Football Union: Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger cats & Montreal Alouettes

ORFU: Ontario Rugby Footall Union: Toronto Balmy Beach, Sarnia Imperials, London Lords, Toronto Indians, Windsor Rockets, Brantford Redskins, Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen, Hamilton Wildcats, Ottawa Trojans & Bramalea Satellites.

Looking at the ORFU, it's too bad the CFL never took in 3 teams to make it a 12 team league. The Imperials, Dutchmen & Rockets. Most of the he ORFU played in very, very small stadiums under 3000 seats that were mostly bleacher seats. I guess building stadiums in the 50's would have had the same resistance by taxpayer that we see now.

For all the complaints about Walters (and for the record I don't love how much he paid some guys), he's managed to sign 4 likely starting Canadians (Demski, Kramdi, Lawson, Oliveria), at worst a depth Olineman (Eli) and an excellent half back (Nichols). That's pretty good for January 4th.

Look to our West where O'Day has yet to sign his starting rb (Ouellette), most of his receivers Johnson, Meyers, Robustelli, Nield, KSB, most of his offensive line, most of his defensive line, his back up QB (Maier), a stud Canadian linebacker (AJ Allen) and two key pieces of his sceondary (Campbell and Reavis).

I'm just saying some perspective is needed.

Walters is not any kind of "problem" on this team. He's not perfect, and nobody is, but I get such a chuckle when I read some takes about him being useless.

I could get every player under contract easily by overpaying as well. There...perspective.

Noeller, he is overpaying our guys to return. It is something of great concern.

Send your resume to Wade Miller then. I'm sure he'd love to hire you.
