Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

It seems that an increase in the variant infections, and a sharp increase at that, is pretty much inevitable here. How bad it gets is the only question.

My simple solution. Shut it all down for 2 weeks and we're good. Don;t know why they dont do that.

Not sure about how far out, but my mom just became eligible yesterday...either phoned or went online....and got the jab same day at Selkirk. I am amazed it happened that quickly. Also got my step-dad in for the 20th. Extremely thankful for this.

Because it is not that simple.  It won't work like it did last spring - lockdown fatigue is a tough steer to wrestle down.

Yeah but after 2 weeks its wide open again :)

Covid fatigue is a real whether mentally or financially this virus has kicked the **** out of us, except for the ultra wealthy they probably want a few more pandemics in their lifetime.

At this point...no one will believe that it's only going to be two weeks...they have been bounced like that before.

Puts how badly Pallister has managed the rollout into perspective.

Seems like Winnipeg is about 3 weeks. Rural sites much less. Have a cousin in Carman that became eligible yesterday called and had an appointment in 40 minutes. Had to get in the car and hustle.

The only time I've been envious of those sheep-seducing, butter-slapping gap-toothed melonheads

Electric vehicle owners will have to wait a lil bit longer as they are not burning fossil fuels for the drive thru vaccinations.

and my mom is now eligible for the vaccine (and she's already scheduled for it in a little over 2 weeks)

60 and older, get your shots!

40 and older for indigenous.

I see another lockdown on the horizon, don't think that there is an appetite for it but so few have been vaccinated, the variants are becoming the main strain and cases are starting to go up which  means the hospitals will fill up again

Do it now, do it right and save us from that 3rd wave.

All of our neighbors are entering their 3rd wave- we see it. We have about two to four weeks starting this past Tuesday- why squander this window of opportunity? Why wait until the ICUs fill up and the deaths start going up and the age of those with serious complications of the virus goes down?

******* madness...

"Three more deaths linked to the illness were also announced on Friday, including a man in his 20s from the Northern Health Region, the province said in a news release.

The province also announced 37 newly identified cases of more contagious coronavirus variants, most of which are in the Winnipeg health region."

They're only concerned with the ICU. As long as the ICU numbers remain lower, they won't lock anything further down. Then, when it's really bad, they'll wag their fingers again and shut things down.

We can't really tell a whole lot from the daily numbers.

There is still a high number of cases from the north, so my first question is: are they still going into communities and testing everyone?

Because with out the north, cases are under 100 today.

The big problem I see out here in the sticks is that the anti-maskers have been emboldened.  Buisnesses aren't enforcing their policies partly because of a lack of support from city/town councils and therefore local police as well. They are all, afraid of upsetting the fundamentalist church crowd. When the 3rd  wave hits it will come from the Southern  part of the province. My shot on Sunday can't come soon enough.

I would too if I hadn't already gotten my hands on one!  It's a toss-up as to which one is harder to get.

From what I can glean from "Covid Tracker Canada " a U of S project, we( MB ) are a shade under %14 vaccinated.  Alberta a bit over %14. BC + Ontario a bit over% 17. Quebec over% 20 .Nova Scotia is under %11. What I'm not sure about is if those numbers include our indigenous communities and if all provinces report that the same.
