Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

Public health officials report no new cases of COVID-19 today. The total number of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases in Manitoba remains at 300.

CDC Says Coronavirus Infections in the U.S. Are Increasing Sharply as the Rest of the World Figures It Out

Even as the United States begins to lift its coronavirus lockdown orders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is putting out dire warnings about increasing infection numbers. A CDC report dated June 9 shows infection numbers in the U.S. increasing by 36 percent per day. The majority of other countries listed, including the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain, enjoyed declining infection rates. Only Russia, Peru, and India’s infection numbers were growing, and even then by less than 5 percent. Health experts the world over have warned that the pandemic is far from finished, and some have even predicted another 100,000 Americans will die from it. Nearly 2 million people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the U.S., and more than 110,000 have died.

Perfectly handled, a great success story, people should just be thanking the President....
Factor in the suppression of factual information, lack of personal example (not ever wearing a mask) and the total irresponsibility of encouraging people to ignore social distancing.
History will not be kind.

How can anyone who supports the ongoing demonstrations here & in the US  criticize how things have been handled in  America? Bad enough that they have a clown show in the White House with an absolutely lost President & his advisors who provides leadership like a guy going down a raging river on a raft without a rudder. Things are going too fast for Trump. Too many key issues to deal with simultaneously & he is unable to handle it.

The Liberal MSM in the US keeps telling us about the second wave that is now here because Republican governors opened their States up too early too fast. To them, that was an evil thing those evil Republicans did but the 20 something Democrats. socialist, communist & progressive social justice warriors that just keep organizing demonstrations bringing tens of thousands people together during a pandemic everyday in close quarters clearly lacking social distancing is somehow okay & societally acceptable?

To the progressive MSM these activist twenty somethings  do the "good work" that needs to be done. Even though the spread of infections  that these ongoing demonstrations will bring with more sickness & death in the coming weeks is somehow worth it. How many more deaths in the US are worth it? Two hundred thousand? Three, four or 500,000? A million? Two million??? Guess America will find out as it's federal & state political leaders seem to have lost their will to keep fighting the virus.

Speedy, you can’t have it both ways.

You've advocated opening things up because you've had it with lockdowns. Understandable.

But, now you’re saying it’s irresponsible to have protests in what is probably a huge, potential turning point in American history. The biggest awareness by thousands and thousands of all races.
And yes, it does come with potential problems, but they’ve made their choices because they’ve had enough.

But why call the organizers socialists and communists and single them out for wanting change in a massive attempt to actually make a difference?

This shouldn’t be political. It goes beyond that.

Its about humankind and the attempt to right so many wrongs.

I advocated opening things up because obviously no one seems to care about the measures put in place to reduce the spread. Politicians talk but actions are louder than words. There is going to be a BLM demonstration in Innisfail, AB on Saturday. With the publicity it has received, I expect thousands of people will flock to that poor town of just 8,000. If there are any asymptomatic demonstrators there they'll bring in the virus with them.

Well, now there's Jason Kenney who for months was telling Albertans to stay indoors. Yet, he announces that he supports the event even if the majority of the locals don't. They have been branded rednecks & racists by the MSM here in Canada because they were opposing it. Just typical redneck rural Alberta. I just see it as a hypocritical stance & it angers me a lot as it is unfair.

Today, the MSM in the US has a number of stories about a second wave that has arrived. The Republican governors opened their states too early we're told so it's their fault & now they won't shut things down so we're told. Why should they when demonstrations continue? Much to the delight of MSNBC & CNN as well as Jake Tapper, Anderson Cooper & Don Lemon's glee. That seems to be okay. Keep demonstrating, folks!! Not just Trump loves ratings.

I just said the hell with it. I don't like what is going on but I won't stay in self isolation anymore. Thank God, Alberta has gone to Stage 2 Friday. What a totally ****** up world we live in.

Even as Kaleigh McEnany pushes out that the US’s quick action saved hundreds of thousands of COVID cases from arising we get reports like this:

Texas reported over 2,500 new coronavirus cases Wednesday—the highest reported in a single day by far since the pandemic started—as the number of Texans currently admitted to hospitals for coronavirus climbed to a new record for the third straight day, as the state, which had one of the fastest and most aggressive reopening timelines in the nation, has seen a surge in infections about two weeks after Memorial Day.

Texas isn’t alone in seeing cases jump over the past few days. Over a dozen states across the U.S., including California, have also had a concerning rise

Multiple strains of coronavirus are now circulating in the US. Here’s what that means
As the coronavirus moves around the country, it's mutating — but that isn't as bad as it sounds)
Anew analysis published in the journal Science found seven new strains of the coronavirus that have been circulating in California — and that's according to a very small sample size.

Specifically, a group of international scientists looked at samples from 36 COVID-19 patients in nine California counties and the Grand Princess cruise ship from late January to mid-March. Through a phylogenetic analysis — which is when researchers study the evolutionary relationships of genes — they found at least seven different SARS-CoV-2 lineages, including the WA1 strain which has been associated with Washington state.

STORM BREWING: COVID Is So Bad in Arizona They’re Running Out of Beds

“It’s like Katrina,” one health expert in the state said. “We’re at capacity.

That’s how a nurse in Arizona who treats COVID-19 patients summed up the situation at her state’s facilities on Wednesday, describing 12-hour shifts treating more and more severely ill patients, many of whom have died.

“It’s exhausting and emotionally draining, and you feel helpless and just very sad for people,” the nurse, who requested anonymity for fear of professional retaliation, told The Daily Beast.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Arizona had at least 28,296 confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,706 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, which also showed a concerning upward trend. The state had 1,553 new cases on June 5, its highest daily peak for new cases since the pandemic began. According to a comparison of all 50 states, the Johns Hopkins data showed that Arizona had among the biggest upward case trends of any state in the U.S.

Kenora health officials warn of possible COVID-19 exposure

06/11/2020 8:24 AM

Health officials in northwestern Ontario are warning the public of possible risk of exposure to COVID-19 at two Kenora stores.

On June 4, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. shoppers at the Kenora Walmart and No Frills
grocery store may have a "very small chance" that they were exposed to COVID-19.

“From the information gathered from cases the risk is assessed as very remote, but we are advising people who were in these stores during these periods so that they can monitor symptoms and decide whether they want to be tested,” said Dr. Ian Gemmill, acting medical officer of health at the Northwestern Health Unit.

Big news from the MB presser on Phase 3 today, which would potentially launch June 21st....

Outdoor gatherings go from 50 people to 100, and residents of Western Canada and Northwest Ontario would no longer need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering the province. Great news for those of us hoping to come home this summer...
